Raynald watch as Selena walked away, sashaying her hips, acting as if the streets were some kind of stage for a pageant. All he could do was shake his head, as he tried to keep on that straight face of his, since the woman keeps looking back on his way.“You really are the ladies’ man, aren’t you?”A deep voice suddenly spoke from behind. In an instant, he jumps away out of instinct, both hands at the ready blaze and energy immediately accumulating within his palms, making it glow crimson red. He stops midway when he sees who the person was.“Sir Chris! How long have you been there?”He utters after a few moments of gaping. He averted the man’s gaze, looking around the area to see where the private could have hidden. Though he had sensed it a while ago, he could not determine where the guy had come from. From the tattered dwellings that easily made noises, there was not much place to take cover from. The man was sitting atop a house, head resting on one hand that was placed on his kne
Chris heaved a sigh. Once again, he was up against odds that he was unsure if he could face on his own.Fear crept inside of him as the energies in the air continued to increase and become unhinged. From what he remembers in the other world, it should not be that way. It felt like a wave, fluctuating now and then. There were times it would go on for hours, sometimes minutes, then it disappears for a whole day. It was so unnatural for him, added that noticed it had a schedule of sort.Besides that, there was another thing that concerned him, and it was the vial that they got from that supposedly abandoned lab.He could feel the sergeant’s essence flowing in it, but there was something else mixed in it, a familiar yet different aura at the same time.He kept playing with it in his fingertips, watching how the liquid flowed and glimmered inside the small bottle.“Is there a problem, sir?”Raynald asks, noticing how he was looking at it with a troubled look.“This blood. They’ve done some
“Are you sure you’re going to be all right?”Her mothers ask, having those pleading eyes, telling him to not go out of the house. As usual, they had worried look on their faces.“Maybe you should try to find a job somewhere else, like in a private security firm.”His father second the notion of that other option they have been talking about.“Yeah, I hear there have been several companies hiring power users nowadays.”Again, it was his mom.The elders both looked at one another, giving these hopeful gazes before turning to him once more. After he had returned, both of them had been overly protective, telling him not to go back to the military.Even though he wanted to follow that advice, it was impossible with what he knew.“And they pay good money.”His dad states, informing him of that one thing that worried him. After he had disappeared, his father had to do extra shifts again. His mom had to do side jobs just to keep his siblings at school. It irked him at the thought that none of
“Why did the boss suddenly call us all here?”Dereck grumbled, scratching his messed up hair in annoyance at being summoned in the morning. It was so out of the usual that some of them were still yawning, in pajamas, and barely awake.“I think he said something about training.”Bryce murmured while wiping the drool on his mouth. The youth looks up, squinting when noticing that the sun wasn’t up, yet the horizon was already turning blue, cutting the sky into half, with the other side being dark and filled with stars.“Really? It’s about damn time!”Upon hearing that, Dereck’s composure immediately changed, his eyes opened wide, glistening with anticipation and excitement. It instantly fired the guy up, throwing punches in the air to wake himself up.That somehow got the others riled up as they started cheering and jumping in joy at the thought.“It’s been so long since the last time he taught us.”Melo was squealing, holding hands with the other girls. Their faces flushing from certain
“Everybody ready?”Raynald asks.As expected, all nine power users in his gang were there. Along with a few others with no ability, whom also wished to participate.“You bet cha, boss!”Arnold hollers, making everyone follow. All of them punched their fist through the air in a cheer.“Are you girls sure you want to join in on this?”The sergeant inquires to the females in his group, looking at them with a serious look on his face.“We’re part of the gang, of course we do!”Melo nodded with assurance, before all three threw in that same gaze as they stared at their leader with full conviction.“Are you also going to join the test, boss?”Dereck was quick to notice how the man was wearing his fatigue, boots, and camouflage jacket. That put a smirk on the man’s face as he crossed his arms over his chest while he looked at them with pride.“Of course, I have to show them what it means to be on the black thirteen.”He states, before raising his head.Just hearing that increased everyone’s
Large brick walls divided the entire area with a high arch ceiling. From inside that tunnel there were windows which allowed them to see the outside, that caused everyone to discomfort and panic.“What the hell is this place?”Arnold screams, pulling his hair because certain parts of of the room had turned topsy-turvy, together with the people that were trying to get out of it.They even saw some of their companions moving around in the opposite direction and were upside down, which only made things harder to grasp.“Fuck, I think I’m gonna be sick.”Dereck groaned, grabbing hold of his mouth to stop his lunch from coming out. Some areas seem to turn when stared at for long periods of time, which only caused them to get dizzy by looking at it.“Where’s the boss?”Melo noticed they got separated from their leader after hours of going in and out of the place, trying to find the exit to that accursed maze.“I’m over here.”A voice boomed, causing everyone to look up at the large window.
Once all nine of the power users gathered, they return to the starting area of the maze, choosing an entrance on the far left, with a marking that shown the roman numeral one. After entering, they continued traversing the halls of that path, stopping for the fourth time.“This is it.”Bernard gave out a wide smile after they reached an open space where the road split into two, here they saw the other interconnecting parts of the maze, with a large free area in what seems to be the middle o it with a floating circular platform.“What do you mean? We just went in circles.”Bruno groaned, stomping his feet upon seeing the same location with the same view.“That’s the thing, we didn’t.”The lad says, showing the widest and most teasing grin he could.“Say that again?”Dereck raised a brow, then stares at the other, noticing the confidence that the non-power user had.He takes another quick glance at where they were, but like what his companion had assumed a while ago, they were in the sam
“Maybe we should jump?”Bernard suggests. After almost an hour of debating, searching, and wracking their brains for a solution. It was the only sane reason that he could come up with. With how the stairs were facing in their direction right now, he was certain it would be possible for them.“Are you out of your mind?”Dereck snaps, glaring at the lad for thinking of such an outrageous idea. But that did not faze the youngster, standing his ground with a firm look on his face and steady resolve.“It’s not like we’re going to end up falling. Didn’t you say it yourself, worst that could happen is ending up floating for hours until we land on an open area?”Bernard pointed out that detail that gave him the idea for that plan.If that was true, then even he who had little physical prowess should not have any problems jumping onto the platform from that distance.Everybody quieted down, each of them suddenly contemplating on what the lad had said.“I think he might have a point there.”It
