Arc 2: Revival
Nathan found himself watching his life like a movie. His memories played one by one like an old cassette to its player. From the time he was a baby being held in his mother's gentle arms, to the times when he met Sindy and Andrew.
The happiest moments of his life played out peacefully, filling him with a strong sense of nostalgia. Nathan wished for the feeling to last forever. He wanted the sweet moments of bliss to stick to him like glue. Sadly, that all changed as soon as the memories of his father, James Styles, entered his conscience.
He was the man who had abused his family for countless years. This was the hidden part of Nathan's past that he had never shared with anyone apart from Sindy. The belt, the whips, the stones, the hammers, and the knife threats all poured into his mind. They corrupted his peaceful memories like a deadly poison and like a flood, they drowned his thoughts;
"Nathan, you should know better than to disobey your father," said James in a calm voice as he approached Nathan.
Nathan scampered away as fast as he could before his back hugged the wall behind him. He knew that his father's calm demeanor was nothing but an act to hide his devilish personality.
James closed in on him. The horrifying sound of that one black whip echoed to life like a fresh wound.
"James, please! He's only six!" Pleaded Nathan's mother, Stacy.
With a swing of his right hand, James landed a painful slap to Stacy's face causing her to fall over.
"Come now, Stacy. I don't remember permitting you to interrupt Nathan's punishment. Please stay quiet or I might be forced to punish you too."
Stacy held her face as she sobbed. There was nothing she could do to help Nathan.
"Leave my mom alone! She's a better human being than you'll ever be!" Shouted Nathan with tears in his eyes.
James then turned himself back around to face Nathan with a devilish smile.
"You're always so rebellious, Nathan. Why is it that you never learn that disobeying me will only lead to more pain? You always ignore what I say then you talk back to me as if we're equals. You need to understand that one day I'll be a God!"
"Because you're nothing but a monster! I'll never listen to someone like you!"
"Well, that's the problem, son. That's the reason you're being punished right now. I told you that a loser like yourself isn't deserving of friends, yet you still talk to that Sindy girl as if you think you're good enough for her. It seems you fail to understand that you're nothing more than a burst condom that was never supposed to happen in the first place."
"Please, James...! Don't hurt him! I'll do anything you want! Just leave Nathan alone!" Begged Stacy desperately. Sadly, she was only met with a kick to the face that immediately silenced her.
"Mom!!" Screamed Nathan.
"Now, now, Nathan. It's time for your punishment. None of this would have happened if you had just listened to me."
Slowly, James then brought the whip back before unleashing no less than fifty lashes. While this was happening, Nathan's little sister, Liz, watched in horror from behind her room door as the event unfolded. After James was finished lashing Nathan, he turned to Stacy.
"Darling, I think I need to let off some more steam. Would you kindly remove your garments and get in bed? I'll be with you shortly..!"
The scene in Nathan's memory then shifted once more. This time, it was the memory of a touching conversation that he had with his mother.
"Mom, why don't you call the police and report what dad does to us?"
Stacy smiled warmly as she gently stroked Nathan's hair.
"Well, your father has many bad friends, hun. He threatened to have one of them kill us if we ever called the police or tried to run away. I could never live with myself if anything were to happen to you and Liz. To be honest, I'm scared...""Mom, you don't need to worry!" Assured Nathan. "I promise that when I grow up, I'm going be a different person from dad. I'll help people and become a hero. I'll also find a wife and treat her with respect! I won't force her to do the things that dad makes you do when he carries you to the bedroom! I'll never hurt a lady! Instead, I'll marry her and treat her with love!"
Tears filled Stacy's eyes before she hugged Nathan tightly. His words encouraged her and made her believe that she could endure anything once it was for her children. Emotions of both sorrow and happiness engulfed her. Her smile was proud but her eyes were full of despair.
James' abuse had plagued the family for a total of seven years. However, just before Nathan's ninth birthday, an incident happened that would change their life forever.
James was badly punishing Liz by beating her with a thick leather belt. He had beaten her so badly that she had started bleeding. Nathan knew that if James was allowed to continue, scars would be left all over his sister's body.
Due to this, Nathan decided that he had enough. The emotional burden that he had been carrying for so long had become far too heavy. Driven insane by his emotions, Nathan picked up a kitchen knife and ran towards James. However, before he could stab his father, Stacy pushed him aside and plunged the knife deep into James' spine instead. She could not allow Nathan to carry the emotional burden of killing his father.
When the police arrived, Stacy had finally told them the truth about James' abuse over the past seven years. Due to this, no charges were laid against her and the case was dismissed as self-defense. The only strange thing that happened was that James' body disappeared from the morgue the following day. However, they didn't care as long as he was finally out of their lives.
Ever since then, their lives began to change. They moved out of James' house and relocated to a new neighborhood. The area was peaceful and was closer to school. It was also closer to Sindy's house which allowed Nathan's and Sindy's friendship to grow even stronger. Their days became peaceful and full of joy. Even the scars on their bodies eventually disappeared. The only scars that remained were the ones on their hearts.
Nathan's memories continued to pour into his mind like rain. He was happily reliving the memories of his past without his evil father coming across his conscience. This was when he stumbled upon his memories of the Mind World. However, something was strange. His memories were beginning to fade as if they had never happened in the first place. For some reason, he was losing his memories. His memories of Sindy and Andrew were the first to go followed by some of the experiences he had gained at AA.Loneliness soon began to cripple Nathan's soul. He could feel his existence quickly fading. A teardrop then fell from his eye and hit the dark floor beneath him that somehow changed into a dark lake upon impact.Nathan then fell into the lake beneath him with a splash before he began to sink. He flailed his arms and feet wildly as he tried to escape but it was to no avail. However, just before he could drown, his eyes were flung open to see a beautiful white light hovering above the lake.Desp
Nathan's eyes slowly opened to a light-brown oak wood ceiling. The scent of garlic rice, hot peppers, and baked chicken stabbed him in his nostrils. His stomach growled and his body felt a bit weak. He then slowly sat up only to realize he was on a small bed in a dimly lit wooded building."Where am I?" He groaned.Nathan couldn't recall what had happened to him. It was as if parts of his life were missing from his memories. He had a mild headache and his thoughts were fuzzy. He remembered basic information like his name and how he had gotten to the Mind World but that was all.Carefully, he then slid from the bed onto his feet. The floor was cold and smooth underneath his bare feet. However, he had some difficulty keeping his balance almost as if he had never learned to walk."You're awake!" Suddenly squealed a sweet voice.Nathan then fixed his gaze to get a clear image of the person before him. It was a girl that looked around 16 years. She had lush orange-brownish hair and curious
A 16-year-old boy with short orange-brownish hair and lavender-colored eyes had appeared before Nathan and Ava. He looked a lot like Ava, almost as if they were twins."Evan, it's fine! He doesn't remember anything since he woke up. I've been with him the entire time and he hasn't done anything to harm me!" Comforted Ava."Who's he?" Asked Nathan curiously."He's my twin brother, Evan. He can be a little overprotective though so try not to mind him too much!"Evan stared at Nathan as if he was some kind of undercover criminal."I don't trust you despite what my sister says. If you try anything funny, you'll regret it!""Evan, enough... Give our guest a break," said another unfamiliar voice.Nathan looked up to see that the voice belonged to an old man. He had cool salt and pepper hair tied back into a small bun. The lower part of his face was covered with a neat mustache that dangled an inch from his face and a long neatly shaved beard hung from his chin. His face had a few wrinkles b
Nathan strolled through the small village of Youkatai Mountain as he headed towards Master Rikugan's home. As he walked, he observed the unique aesthetics of the area around him. Most of the terrain was slightly uneven and the buildings had an ancient design. The air was also quite cool as one would expect at the top of a mountain. Birds could be heard chirping all around which mixed in with the heavy chatter of nearby residents. It was relatively peaceful."So, Nathy!" Began Ava who was leading him to Master Rikugan's home. "You said you remember basic information about yourself, right? Do you mind telling me when you were born?""Sure, it's the 1st of July."Ava's eyes sparkled to life, "Wow, what a coincidence! I was born on the 2nd of July! That's just one day after you! And that also means we're both Cancers!""Oh, you're right... That is a coincidence.""I know right..? I'm starting to think what grandpa said is true. Maybe the gods sent you here for a reason.""Yeah... I think
Master Rikugan had been teaching Nathan about the fundamentals of Zen for the past two hours. However, they had finally decided to take a break as they allowed themselves to relax on the wooden floor."That was exhausting and it was only theory," sighed Nathan."Yes, Zen is quite difficult to grasp," replied Rikugan. "I think I even forgot the reason I invited you into my home in the first place. We still need to find a way to restore your memories!"Nathan scratched his head as he pondered."Well, earlier when you mentioned the Lady Of The Lake, my head started hurting. I felt like she influenced me to be here somehow...""Lady Vivienne? We did find you unconscious on a shrine dedicated to her so there's a possibility.""So what are we going to do then..?""Well, I can't say for sure but I believe your memories hold the key to what it is that you must do. I believe that the gods had more than one reason to send you here. If it were to simply regain your memories then they would have
Nathan meditated in the shrine garden alongside Rikugan. Rikugan had found out that Nathan was a Triple Art User and was now providing him with the necessary training to properly control his Spirit Energies. However, he was struggling to maintain his concentration. His eyes twitched and his mind drifted to random thoughts."Nathan, you must remain concentrated if you hope to master your Spirit Energy!" Reprimanded Rikugan."It's hard! Like, come on! We've been doing this for weeks now... I need physical training! This mental stuff isn't for me!"Rikugan sighed as he picked himself up."You'll be able to do as much physical training as you want once you learn how to control your Spirit Energies.""Ugh! It's not like I need to use my Death Energy anyway! I've already attained near mastery over my Lightning and Wind Energies! They're all I need...""Near mastery, you say? Let's make a deal then."Nathan quickly rose to his feet as soon as he heard this. "A deal?""Yes. There's a sword o
Andrew and Sindy trained rigorously under Instructor Brady inside a Leisure Dome. Nathan's death was still like a fresh wound on their hearts. However, they had both managed to turn their grief into the determination needed for them to get stronger.Ever since Nathan's death, they had gone on a total of three missions, completing each of them successfully. Due to this, they had both been promoted to the CB-Class. On one hand, Sindy wanted to carry out Nathan's will and save both the Mind World and the Real World. However, on the other hand, Andrew desired to find a way back home with Sindy."Andrew..." Called Sindy as she sparred with him."What is it, princess?""Do you think we'll ever see Nate again..?"Andrew was shocked to hear Sindy's question. Due to this, he lost focus for a short moment which resulted in Sindy landing a solid punch to his jaw, throwing him to the ground."Son of a... Ugh..! Did you do that on purpose to distract me?" Asked Andrew as he comforted his bruised j
Nathan, Rikugan, Ava, and Evan all sat in a circle while holding hands. Everyone aside from Rikugan was on the verge of suffering from an anxiety attack."G-grandpa, do we have to do this? This is suicide!" Argued Evan."This is not only Nathan's problem, Evan. This problem is as much ours as it is his. If we do not find a way to tame that angel inside of him then one day, its power will destroy the Mind World. We must do this!"Evan lowered his head as he tried to calm himself. He wanted to run away but he knew he had no choice but to fight."Grandpa, how can you be so calm? I know you're strong but not even you could stand up to an angel! Why aren't you scared?" Trembled Ava."Ava, sometimes we must face the things we fear the most. That is the only way to defeat our greatest nightmares.""I'm sorry that you guys have to go through with this..." Apologized Nathan.Ava smiled at Nathan, comforting him. Evan also gave him a reassuring nod to signify that it was okay. Following this, R
