08: The Ring’s Healing Power (II)

“Are you kidding me?” The Doctor stared at Eric like he had gone insane. How was it possible that a man in rags stormed into the room and told them he could save the dying old man.

“Out, now!” The male nurse pointed at the door behind Eric.

But Eric’s feet were unmoving, he knew he could step out of the room at that moment because the security were still on the look for him.

“Please save my grandfather if you can!” The young girl’s tearful plea echoed in his ears, urging him to stay and confront the inexplicable situation unfolding in the hospital room.

"I can save him," Eric declared again with newfound determination, though uncertainty lingered in his eyes. The doctors exchanged skeptical glances, still baffled by his sudden appearance and his unwillingness to see himself out.

The elderly man on the bed lay motionless, a breathing tube connected to his frail form. The medical team, despite their efforts, seemed unable to revive him. The room hung heavy with the weight of uncertainty.

“You have less than ten seconds to leave this place, or I’m calling security!” Eric was yelled at again.

Ignoring the protests, Eric approached the bed, his mind racing to make sense of the bizarre circumstances. He hesitated for a moment, contemplating his next move. The ring on his finger emitted a subtle glow, almost as if responding to the critical situation.

In a moment of spontaneity, Eric extended his hands over the elderly man, his fingers hovering uncertainly. The room fell silent as everyone watched with a mix of skepticism and anticipation.

A faint energy seemed to emanate from the mysterious ring, enveloping Eric's hands. The air itself hummed with an otherworldly resonance. Slowly, the color returned to the elderly man's face, and his labored breathing began to steady.

The doctors and nurses, initially resistant to Eric's presence, now stood in awe as the man on the bed showed signs of life. The young girl's tearful expression transformed into one of hope.

"He's breathing! He's breathing!" one of the nurses exclaimed, breaking the silence that had gripped the room.

The doctors, though bewildered, couldn't deny the tangible improvement in the patient's condition. Eric, equally astonished, withdrew his hands, the glow from the ring diminishing.

The elderly man's eyes fluttered open, and a feeble smile formed on his lips. The young girl, overwhelmed with joy, rushed to her father's side.

"You saved him!" she exclaimed, gratitude filling her voice.

The doctors, now caught between disbelief and acknowledgment, began to assess the patient's condition. Eric, still grappling with the surreal turn of events, met the girl's eyes with a mixture of awe and uncertainty.

As the medical team continued their examination, the girl turned to Eric with a heartfelt expression. "Thank you," she whispered, her eyes reflecting profound gratitude.

Eric, choosing his words carefully, responded, "I'm just glad he's okay. Sometimes things happen, and we don't quite understand why."

The doctors, regaining their composure, approached Eric cautiously. "We need to understand what just happened," one of them admitted, curiosity overcoming skepticism.

"I wish I had answers, but I'm as bewildered as you are," Eric admitted, his gaze briefly shifting to the mysterious ring on his finger.

The nurse who had initially attended to Eric now spoke up, her eyes wide with amazement. "I've never seen anything like this. What sort of thing is that?”

Eric, evading the direct question about the ring, replied, "I honestly don't know. It's just something... unexpected."

The doctors exchanged puzzled glances but refrained from pressing further. Instead, they focused on the elderly man's recovery. The room buzzed with a mix of astonishment and relief.

The young girl, still emotional, expressed her gratitude once more. "I don't know how to thank you. You're like an angel."

Eric, offering a modest smile, replied, "I'm just a regular guy. I'm glad I could help."

As the medical team prepared to move the elderly man to another room for further observation, the doctor lingered to speak with Eric. "If you ever find out more about whatever this is, please let us know. It could be groundbreaking for medical science."

Eric nodded, acknowledging the doctor's request. "I'll keep that in mind."

With the room gradually returning to a sense of normalcy, Eric felt the weight of the situation settle on his shoulders. He had unintentionally wielded a power he couldn't comprehend, and the ring's mystery remained unsolved.

The doctor, still intrigued, pressed on. "Do you have any medical training? How did you know what to do?"

Eric, choosing to remain discreet about the ring's involvement, replied, "No medical training. Just a gut feeling, I guess."

The nurse chimed in, her eyes narrowing with curiosity. "And that ring of yours... it's unique. Where did you get it?"

Eric hesitated, then offered a cryptic response. "It's a family heirloom, passed down through generations,” Eric lied, not wanting to spill more about the ring. He ran out from his ward because the doctor and nurses saw him as a freak because all his wounds miraculously healed.

As the medical team escorted the elderly man and his daughter to a different room, Eric found himself alone in the corridor, grappling with the unfolding events. The mysterious ring, a silent witness to the extraordinary healing, pulsed subtly on his finger.

Thankfully no security was in sight when he made his way out.

In the room corridor, Eric hurriedly walked, lost in his thoughts about the mysterious ring. As he turned a corner, he collided with a woman, and in that moment, the ring slipped from his finger, clattering to the floor.

"Oh, I'm so sorry!" the woman exclaimed, bending down to retrieve the fallen ring. As she held it out to him, she gasped when her eyes met his face.

"It's you!" she said, her voice filled with astonishment.

Confused, Eric quickly snatched the ring from her extended hand.

"What do you mean?" he asked, puzzled by her reaction.
