Back home.
The Millers had already received the good news over the phone and, after celebrating, Mrs. Ariel rolled up her sleeves to prepare a meal in anticipation of their return.
"Today our daughter was promoted to director of design for the corporation, and is also in charge of a billion-dollar gemstone project. We must celebrate grandly!" Mrs. Ariel joyfully spoke at the dinner table, even uncorking a bottle of wine herself.
"I am just a temporary director for now. I will be officially appointed only after winning first place in the company's exhibition." Dulcie clarified earnestly.
"Temporary director? You’re liked by Chairman Joe, and still worried about Jena oppressing you? This time, our family can be proud. Ah, the design director of the corporation, even Jena is just a subordinate to my daughter." Mrs. Ariel spoke happily.
Mr. Anselm also showed a happy face but still said seriously: "Dulcie, it seems Chairman Joe values capability over background. This is a good opportunity; you must grasp it firmly and excel in your work. Our family doesn’t have much influence in the corporation, so be cautious and respectful in your dealings."
"I understand." Dulcie nodded.
"But I heard Theophilus has been causing trouble at the company? Dante from the Charlie family wants to teach you a lesson." Mrs. Ariel frowned, looking displeased at Theophilus: "You are not very capable, yet you always stir up controversy. Dulcie shouldn’t have brought you to the company!"
"Moreover, my daughter." Mrs. Ariel advised with dissatisfaction: "I heard you made Theophilus your assistant? Isn’t that inviting chaos? He knows nothing and will only bring more trouble. Listen to me, reorganize your team at the company, Theophilus absolutely cannot be your assistant."
"Mom, Theophilus played a role in the praise I received from Chairman Joe." Dulcie said: "Please don’t interfere with our work."
"Alright, for now, let it be." Mrs. Ariel frowned, then agreed, still looking displeased at Theophilus: "Theophilus, don’t bring more trouble to this family. When you’re at the company with Dulcie, don’t hinder her work. I won’t let it slide if you do!"
At this point, Mr. Anselm fiddled with an empty cigarette packet, speaking up: "Theophilus, could you go down and buy me a pack of cigarettes?"
Theophilus nodded and stood up to go downstairs. After two years of hearing Mrs. Ariel's constant nagging, he had grown accustomed to it and didn't pay much attention.
After buying two packs of cigarettes from the grocery store at the entrance of the residential area, Theophilus was about to head back home.
Screech!
A sleek black Toyota suddenly pulled up in front of him.
"Are you Theophilus Jake?"
"Yes, that's me, the useless guy, right? The boss even instructed us to quickly catch him and bring him back."
Suddenly, two muscular men stepped out of the car, scrutinizing Theophilus with a calculating look.
"Are you looking for me?" Theophilus asked, slightly furrowing his brow.
"Yes."
One of the bulky men flashed a cold smile and suddenly swung his fist at Theophilus's face.
Theophilus quickly dodged, moving out of the way of the punch.
These two were strong and fast, clearly professionally trained fighters.
"Quick reflexes." the man said, surprised by his missed punch.
"Then I'll just have to break your legs!"
The two men turned aggressive and simultaneously launched kicks aimed at Theophilus's shins.
Theophilus sidestepped and quickly counterattacked with rapid kicks, accompanied by the sound of whooshing wind, hitting the backs of the two men.
Bang! Bang!
The two were sent flying several meters, falling to the ground and coughing up blood. They looked at Theophilus, their eyes filled with extreme shock.
They couldn't believe that Theophilus, with just a casual lift of his leg, had nearly crippled them.
Such formidable skills were not what they expected from the so-called useless guy in the rumors.
Internally, the two men regretted underestimating Theophilus, thinking he would be easy to capture.
"Who sent you? Speak!"
Theophilus's expression turned cold and his eyes sparkled with a chilling light.
He had turned deadly serious.
Being the heir of Mysterious Royal-X, he knew many were investigating him. The fact that someone had tracked him to his residence, especially Dulcie's home, had crossed his limits.
"We... we just followed orders from our boss." one of the men said, trembling with fear.
"Our boss is Thomas III. Don't mess with us, or Thomas III won't let you off." the other man added with a tense face.
Theophilus's brow furrowed in thought.
"Thomas III?"
"Yes! We are underlings of Richard Thomas. You've heard of Thomas III, you should reconsider." the man said, his tone hardening a bit, thinking Theophilus recognized Richard's reputation.
Theophilus sneered.
Richard Thomas was a local mafia figure with many legal but shady businesses. He was influential in Elysian Echo City and had quite a reputation.
"What does Richard want you to do here?" Theophilus asked in a deep tone.
The two men seemed reluctant to speak, closing their eyes and refusing to utter a word.
Slap!
Theophilus stepped forward and slapped them both, causing their faces to swell immediately, their facial muscles distorting.
"Don't test my patience."
Seeing the sharp gaze of Theophilus, the two thugs didn't dare to look him directly in the eye.
One of the burly men, terrified, immediately said: "Thomas III ordered us to monitor this Groundswell apartment complex daily. As soon as anyone from Dulcie's family steps out, we were to immediately capture them. We don't know the specifics of what he planned to do with them."
Hearing this, Theophilus's anger flared up. Fortunately, it was him who went out this time. What if it had been Dulcie or her parents who had been captured?
Thwack!
Theophilus kicked the talking thug in the face, causing him to grit his teeth in pain, his forehead bleeding, and his body trembling uncontrollably.
"Take me to Richard." Theophilus said coldly.
It seemed that he needed to find a better place for Dulcie's family to live, as the Groundswell complex was under surveillance.
These two were mediocre in martial arts, at best slightly better than average fighters, not considered experts or connected to the ancient martial arts world.
Still, Theophilus decided to meet with Richard to find out who was orchestrating these actions from behind the scenes.
Intimidated by Theophilus's formidable strength, the two thugs obediently drove him to the destination.
Twenty minutes later. The flashy Toyota arrived at Starlight Sky, the largest nightclub in Elysian Echo. The two thugs led Theophilus to the third floor of Starlight Sky. The grand hall was lavishly decorated, surrounded by beautiful hostesses in uniform, exuding an air of worldly experience. Shortly after, Theophilus was taken to a large private room. Inside, about a dozen people sat around a conference table, all looking tough and covered in intimidating tattoos. Sitting at the center was a lean middle-aged man with a fierce demeanor, wearing a flashy shirt and holding a string of prayer beads. "You've got some nerve, attacking my men and then showing up here." Richard sneered, holding a cigar, his face full of disdain as if Theophilus was beneath his notice. "You're Richard Thomas, right? Who sent you after me?" Theophilus asked indifferently. "Oh." Richard mocked: "I've been in Elysian Echo for so many years and never seen someone as foolish as you. Invading my territory and still acting so bold? Who do you think you are?" "Heaven has a way, yet you choose not to walk; hell has no gate, yet you insist on entering." Richard clapped his hands with a smack: "Dispose of him." "Yes, Young Masters!" The dozen or so suited henchmen around the table fixed their cold eyes on Theophilus. Bang! In an instant, Richard's men simultaneously pulled out iron rods over a meter long from beneath the table, menacingly rushing towards Theophilus. Their movements were swift and vicious, expertly swinging theiron rods, all aiming straight for Theophilus's head, intent on finishing him off. Theophilus's face remained emotionless as he swiftly caught one of the iron rods. Then, with a twist of his wrist, he snapped the rod in half and knocked down one of the suited thugs. Then, he swiftly dashed forward, stirring up a whirlwind around him, so fast that only his fading silhouette was visible. Thump! Thump! Thump!Theophilus grabbed an iron rod and began attacking in all directions, overpowering the group to the point where they couldn't retaliate. During this time, they couldn't even catch a glimpse of Theophilus, helplessly enduring the blows. "Ah! Ouch!" In less than three minutes, a dozen burly men in suits lay sprawled on the ground, their faces swollen, crying out in agony. "Speak!" Theophilus looked at Richard coldly: "Who sent you!" "Hey!" Richard was completely dumbfounded, unable to comprehend what had just happened, his eyes filled with disbelief. Damn it, wasn't Theophilus rumored to be a weak, dependent husband? How could he be so strong! His ten or so subordinates, all tough and ruthless, had dominated territories for years. How were they so easily defeated by Theophilus? Richard felt like he had kicked an iron plate. "You think knowing a bit of martial arts makes you invincible in front of me?" Richard flicked cigar ash, saying: "Dare to cause trouble in my territory, do
Theophilus's face showed no emotion, but his lips curled into a menacing sneer. "Oh, it seems I've been too lenient with that Dante..." Theophilus mused. "Mr. Jake, that despicable Dante is truly wicked. If you want revenge, I volunteer to be the first to help." Richard said with a look of rage. "Stop with the flattery. You sent people to capture me and even shot at me. Do you think I'll let you off?" Theophilus asked coolly. Richard's forehead was dripping with sweat. How could he stand against someone like Theophilus, a master who wasn't even afraid of bullets? Let alone the fact that behind Theophilus lay immense wealth and power, not to mention his expertise in ancient martial arts... He had no doubt that if Theophilus wanted him gone, there would be countless ways to make it happen... "Mr. Jake, please spare my life! It was unintentional, I beg you for a chance to make amends! My life from now on belongs to you!" Richard bowed his head three times in succession, his face p
"Dulcie, you've got some nerve. I heard you just took over as the design director yesterday, managing a million-dollar jewelry project." Orborne Miller said thoughtfully: "And today, you dare to spend the company's money on a car? Still accustomed to poverty, I see. It's hard to watch you embezzle company funds so quickly." "Orborne Miller, what nonsense are you spouting?" Dulcie said, slightly angry. "With your family's poor condition, how could you afford a car worth more hundred thousand dollars? It seems I must report this to Director Lee to handle the financial inspection and check your account." Orborne said leisurely. "Mind your status when you speak, Orborne." Theophilus said calmly: "You are just a sales director of a subsidiary, daring to speak to a corporate director like this? Is the Miller Jewelry Corporation yours now? Does Director Lee in finance have to listen to your commands?" "What are you to lecture me?" Orborne fumed, fiercely staring at Theophilus: "You're jus
Leaving the grand Elysian Echo hotel, Theophilus went straight back to the X-Peak building, no longer thinking about the Alexander family. As evening approached. Dulcie and Theophilus finished work and descended in the elevator, walking out in front of the X-Peak building. Barrett had parked the car by the roadside, waiting for them. "By the way, Theophilus." Dulcie hesitated, wanting to say something but then stopping. "What is it?" Theophilus asked. "I have a class reunion tonight. Can you come with me?" Dulcie asked. "A class reunion?" Theophilus' eyebrows furrowed slightly. In the two years he had been part of the Miller family, he had never interacted with Dulcie's friends. "There are some annoying flies among my friends." Dulcie, sensing Theophilus' skepticism, quickly explained. "Then let's go." Theophilus nodded. The two got into the car, and Barrett drove straight to the bustling downtown area. Ten minutes later. The car arrived at a famous food street in Elysian
"Whose friend is this? Damn, got drunk and dared to throw a drink in my face." the tattooed man said aggressively: "Who brought him here? Come out and face me." The room fell into a momentary silence. The beaten and bruised male student was the same one who had come to the reunion and previously mocked Theophilus on behalf of Aylmer. Aylmer coughed a few times and said: "Let him go." "You think I'll just let him go because you say so? Who the hell are you?" the tattooed man challenged Aylmer with a fierce look. "Who am I? I'm your father!" Aylmer charged forward, slapping the tattooed man with a loud smack. "I'm Aylmer Callum. The Blue-Ing construction company nearby is mine. Royalty King Karaoke was initially installed by my company. The owner there and I are old friends. How dare a punk like you act tough in front of me." Aylmer boasted arrogantly. "Aylmer Callum? The Blue-Ing construction company?" The tattooed man, who was about to retaliate, hesitated, then suppressed his t
"Huh! Deaf to the warning shots, relying on his little fighting skills to hit Black Snack. Do you even know what kind of person Thomas III from Zenith Vista is?" Aylmer chimed in coldly, even more eagerly than Black Snack's cousin. They all feared Thomas III coming to settle scores, convinced that if he arrived, there would be a storm of violence, so everyone wanted to escape quickly. "You really are ignorant." Slap! Theophilus swung his hand and slapped Aylmer across the face, so hard that he spun around twice before rolling out of the private room. "Theophilus, let it go, let's leave quickly." Dulcie said worriedly. From her observation, Theophilus's actions were probably due to being overly agitated. His behavior resembled that of a thug, not caring about the consequences of knocking Black Snack down, swiftly creating a deadly feud. Violence couldn't solve problems and now that the situation had spiraled out of control, Dulcie was at a loss about how to handle it. Yet, she f
Three days passed. Tomorrow was the day of the gemstone exhibition, to be held at Elysian Echo's largest square, the Elysian Echo Commercial Square. This event was crucial, with the Miller Corporation having invited representatives from major jewelry companies and industry experts to attend. Today, Theophilus wasn't at the office; he had gone early in the morning to the Blue Sea Real Estate Company in Elysian Echo. He planned to select a more suitable new house and, when the time was right, ask Dulcie to move in with him. Elysian Echo, in the bustling central area, Flowers On The Prairie. This residential area, built beside the Elysian Echo River, had a good location, beautiful scenery, and a pleasant environment. It was considered a neighborhood for the upper-middle class in Elysian Echo, with an apartment costing about two million . It met Theophilus's requirements: not too ostentatious yet comfortable for living. Guided by a sales representative, Theophilus visited a vacant
"Dulcie, who knows if you skimmed on materials during the project and produced a substandard product, but fearing you couldn't bear the responsibility, you decided to take a risk. After all, you had nothing to lose, so you secretly hid the jewelry piece and then declared it lost. Besides, except for you and your husband, none of us have seen what the King World final product looks like." Jena also stood up, smirking with a wild guess, her face showing no attempt to hide her smugness. "You're talking nonsense, I've never cut corners on materials, and this piece was perfectly crafted!" Dulcie responded, her voice filled with angry indignation. She could tolerate the doubts and criticism from the company's board. But as someone who saw jewelry design as her life's passion, she couldn't bear the humiliation of her work being insulted by them. "Ha ha, that's just laughable." Jena continued mockingly: "You dare to claim your work is the best? From what I see, maybe you felt your piece cou
