Chapter 5: Bankruptcy Risk!

Meanwhile, at another location.

The Miller family’s jewelry corporation was in the X-Peak Building.

The building, towering over twenty stories, bustled with activity. Employees hurried back and forth, their faces etched with urgency, as if a significant crisis had unfolded.

On the twenty-third floor, in the conference room.

The Miller family’s board of directors convened an emergency meeting.

Around the large and long conference table sat over twenty people.

All the influential and wealthy members of the Miller family in Elysian Echo City were present.

“What’s going on? Why is the corporation suddenly in such chaos?”

“Big brother, what happened? I was just playing golf, and after several urgent calls, I rushed back for this meeting. All our major clients have canceled their contracts with us.”

“With the corporation in such turmoil, did we offend someone? Why else would our assets be frozen so suddenly?”

The room buzzed with noisy discussions, the shareholders anxious and worried.

“Ahem.”

Victor, the eldest of the Miller family, a member of the board and the chairman of the Miller Corporation, cleared his throat.

“Gentlemen, please, no more arguing. Let’s focus on the issue at hand. The board will find a way to resolve this.”

Victor's expression was grim. Managing the Miller Corporation smoothly for years, this was the first time he had faced such a predicament.

The meeting room fell silent, all eyes on Victor, their faces filled with anxious anticipation.

“Mr. Chairman, I have the statistics you requested." a young secretary with glasses approached, holding several important files.

“Tell me, how many major clients did we lose today? How many longstanding clients have canceled their contracts?” Victor spoke reluctantly, his face showing deep concern. The company’s losses were significant, and he was clueless about the root cause.

The female secretary, holding the documents, spoke seriously: “Mr. Chairman, according to today’s statistics, our stock market value has plummeted by over thirty percent, and it’s now frozen. Many small shareholders are panicking, calling to withdraw their shares.”

“Additionally, our jewelry distribution channels in over a dozen provincial cities have been severed, almost as if they were forced to dissolve.”

“Furthermore, in the Empyria jewelry manufacturing sector, over twenty renowned companies along with the Empyria Jewelry Trade Association have all declared they will no longer cooperate with our Miller Jewelry Corporation.”

“Our corporation is facing a significant crisis of confidence.”

The young secretary stopped speaking, unable to directly say that our corporation was doomed.

"What? The corporation is in this state now? Brother, you told us just the other day that the dividends for shareholders would increase. Weren't you deceiving us?" A normally silent shareholder, now visibly panicked, urgently asked.

"The stock market is frozen? Even our distribution channels are destroyed? Where do we sell all the merchandise we've stockpiled until now?" Another shareholder, responsible for the raw materials of the jewelry workshop, asked in fear.

A female shareholder, concerned about her personal interests and disregarding the authority of Victor and Eugene, demanded answers on the spot: "Big brother, what are you going to do? Normally, you handle all the corporation's affairs. Now, with such a big problem, don't you owe us a solution?"

Victor's face turned gloomy; he too was clueless about whom he had offended to bring such disaster upon the Miller Jewelry Corporation.

Victor looked at Eugene and said: "Eugene, do you have a solution? The key issue now is the unified punishment from the whole industry, clearly someone is targeting our corporation."

Eugene, also out of options, looked pale.

"What we need to do now is to find out who is behind all this, to see if there's any chance of salvage." Eugene said helplessly.

Both leaders were clueless about who they had offended.

Who had the capability to bring the Miller Jewelry Corporation to the brink of bankruptcy in just one day?

Seeing both leaders at a loss for a solution, the meeting room became chaotic. The group of shareholders buzzed with discussions and debates.

Knock! Knock!

At this moment, the female secretary entered the meeting room, looking urgent.

"Deputy Director, Leighton's secretary from the James Empyria Corporation just called, wanting to discuss this issue with the Miller Corporation." she said seriously.

"Me?" Eugene asked, bewildered.

Everyone looked doubtful; logically, shouldn't such matters be directed to the CEO, the 'big brother'?

Why were they contacting the third brother? Could it be?

Everyone present was shrewd, their suspicious gazes fixated on Eugene.

"Eugene, is this issue related to you? Have you offended the James Empyria Corporation?" Victor asked Eugene coldly.

It was inconceivable; the massive James Empyria Corporation, how could it possibly have a conflict with the Miller Corporation?

A mere word from the James Empyria Corporation could ruin the Miller Corporation financially.

"Me... How could I?" Eugene quickly denied.

"Whether it's true or not, we will find out. You go answer the call first, and put it on speakerphone to hear what the James Empyria Corporation has to say." Victor said sternly.

He might be the CEO of the Miller Corporation, but in reality, his business affairs were completely separate from those of Eugene.

Each of them held half of the Miller Corporation empire, each possessing three percent of the shares.

If Eugene's actions harmed his own interests, even blood brothers would turn against each other.

Eugene was under immense pressure, accepting a phone call in front of all the shareholders from his secretary.

"Is this Eugene Miller?" The cold voice of secretary Leighton came through the phone.

"Yes. Greetings, Secretary Leighton." Eugene replied politely.

"A meeting will be held in an hour. Summon all the managers of the Miller Corporation. Our James Corporation will discuss the acquisition. Remember to call your son Orborne as well."

"Yes." Eugene kept responding affirmatively, not daring to object.

Click! Secretary Leighton hung up directly.

Eugene's face went pale, the mention of his son Orborne causing a vague feeling of dread in his heart.

All the shareholders present looked at Eugene, their expressions a mix of displeasure and suspicion.

"This is urgent. We need to expand the meeting now and call all the managers. Shortly, someone from the James Corporation will be here." Victor said gravely.

In less than half an hour, all the managers of the Miller Corporation were summoned to the large meeting room, more than two hundred people gathering.

Victor and Eugene stood at the door to receive them.

Three hours later.

The atmosphere in the meeting room was extremely tense, everyone anxiously waiting.

After arguing back and forth for two hours with no resolution, it was clear that the James Corporation was asserting its dominance, leaving them all in fear for two hours.

Even the two heads, Victor and Eugene, were anxiously pacing in front of the door, waiting for someone from the James Corporation.

They didn't even dare to call and inquire, fearing they might offend them.

"Big brother, should we call and ask? Are people from the James Corporation coming today?" One of the shareholders couldn't wait any longer, feeling extremely uncomfortable.

"Father, I think we should disperse for today and wait for someone from the James Corporation to arrive before reconvening." Victor's son-in-law, Dante, suggested, unable to wait any longer.

"We can only continue to wait. The fate of our corporation lies in the hands of the James Corporation." Victor said sternly.

"Father, what exactly is going on? Are people from the James Corporation coming or not?" Orborne also asked doubtfully, unaware of why Leighton, the secretary of the James Corporation, had called him, although he was the son of the director of the Miller Corporation.

"Is the James Empyria Corporation that arrogant? Making over two hundred of us wait just for a secretary?" Orborne said, dissatisfied.

"Shut up, you fool." Eugene snapped coldly: "What do you know? Do you understand what the name 'James Corporation' represents? Every day, you only cause trouble for me. I don't know if this time it's your doing that's brought this disaster upon us."

Once again, the atmosphere turned tense. Everyone in the room felt a deep sense of torment.

Despite the air conditioning in the conference room being set high, many shareholders were sweating profusely.

Outside the conference room, a young man accompanied by a business delegation and his two lawyers approached confidently.

"Gentlemen, allow me to introduce myself. I am Leighton, sent by the James Corporation to oversee the acquisition of the Miller Corporation." Secretary Leighton spoke seriously.

"I am also the newly appointed chairman of the Miller Jewelry Corporation. On behalf of Chairman James, I will manage all affairs of the James Jewelry Corporation."

After his introduction, Secretary Leighton pulled out the chair belonging to the chairman of the Miller Corporation and sat down leisurely.

The chairman's position had been vacant since the death of the Miller family patriarch. Even the eldest and third sons of the Miller family only considered themselves as acting chairmen.

"This is outrageous!"

The expressions of everyone from the Miller family present turned extremely grim.

However, they were too intimidated by the prestige of the James Corporation in Empyria and their own interests to voice any objections.

Secretary Leighton smiled nonchalantly, observing everyone's faces and said: "It seems you all haven't fully grasped the situation yet."

"Currently, I hold fifty percent of the shares in the Miller Corporation, along with the managerial rights of twenty jewelry manufacturing workshops and thirty distribution stores."

"I don't think there will be any objections to me sitting in this chairman's position, will there?"

Secretary Joe's words were powerful, silencing everyone present.

"Here are the documents for this acquisition plan, please review them thoroughly."

After speaking, Leighton's team distributed the documents to the shareholders seated in the room.

All the shareholders looked serious, deep in thought.

"Who is Orborne Miller?" Suddenly, Secretary Leighton casually asked.

"That's me. May I know what Mr. Joe needs me for?" Orborne asked nervously, trying to appear sincere.

"What are you? Is it your turn to speak here?" Secretary Leighton looked at Orborne coldly and flung a seal at him.

Thud!

The seal hit Orborne in the stomach. He felt as if struck by an iron hammer, churning in his stomach. He leaned on the conference table, vomiting a mess of food and soup.

Orborne felt deep resentment, injustice, and humiliation. His eyes were filled with hatred as he stared at Secretary Leighton, but he dared not say a word.

He couldn't understand why Secretary Leighton of the James Corporation would suddenly target him.

"Gentlemen, I was about to get to the main point, but it seems this place needs a bit of cleaning up." Secretary Leighton said nonchalantly.

"Yes, Mr. Joe. I'll have someone clean this up immediately." Eugene responded obsequiously.

Although he wanted to help his son, he knew the situation was unfavorable and quickly learned to bow his head.

"Ah!" Secretary Leighton said coldly: "There should be rules in a company. Whoever causes trouble should bear the consequences."

Eugene's smiling face stiffened, and he turned to scold Orborne: “You disrespectful brat, how dare you behave so crudely in front of Mr. Joe? Clean this mess up now, and don’t embarrass me.”

“Do you need me to emphasize it again?” Secretary Leighton said calmly, his sharp gaze fixed on Eugene: "Clean it as it was spilled. I want him to lick the table clean. Eat it all!”

“Lick it clean? Eat it all?”
