Chapter Two

Alexander walked out of the Tudor company, his head cast down. He could see the sympathetic stares of some of the staff while the others laughed at him. At the reception, he heard the lady saying, "I knew president Fiona could never be with a man like that," then the crowd laughed.

Outside, under the blistering heat of the July sun, Alexander felt anger surge through him; he didn't want to break down in front of the Tudor building, so he quickly took a cab and headed home. "Where are you heading?" The driver asked and he realized that he didn't even know where he was going. If Fiona had divorced him, would they still be living together? Could he at least spend the night at the house until he could get his own place? Did he even have the money to get his own place? Some of these questions ran through his head and the driver impatiently asked him again of his destination.

At the same time, his phone rang and he pulled it out of his pocket. It was his boss from the factory and he wanted to meet with him. "I want to see you right now, Alex, it's urgent," he said.

Alex wondered what the matter was. He'd asked to leave early that day because he wanted to surprise Fiona at work. Everyone at the company knew that he was married but no one knew his wife, Fiona had successfully kept their marriage a secret for five good years.

Given the location of the factory, the driver immediately took off and in minutes, they arrived there. Alexander rushed into the factory. Some of the men were getting ready to leave after their afternoon shift while some were arriving for the night shift. It was a wood workshop and electrical factory and Alexander had been employed there for at least three years because he couldn't find a better job despite his good college degree and experience.

He hurried to the manager's office but saw the man coming out by himself. They met right at the entrance of the factory and before Alex could say a word, the manager tossed papers on him. "That's your letter of dismissal, you're fired," he said coldly. Alexander froze, he picked up the paper and looked at it closely, hoping it was some prank. "Why?" He asked and the man sneered at him.

"I'm in charge here, I decide who stays and who leaves!" He snapped and told him to pick up his letter and get out. Alexander wondered what he'd done wrong. He'd been sure to take official permission for leaving work early. He was a hard worker and he was even considering a promotion soon.

"You said I could leave for my anniversary, why are you firing me?" Alex asked, perplexed. The manager hissed at him, he looked at his phone and then smiled. His account had just been credited by the Tudor family, that meant there was no need to listen to Alex, he had to leave.

Immediately, he received a call and with a smile, he said, "I have just received it, yes, I'll make sure he never comes back, thank you Mrs Tudor."

"I don't know who you messed with, but they want you gone and I don't want trouble in my factory, I have to let you go," he said coldly. He didn't mention that he'd been paid a good sum to do that too.

Alex glared at him and asked, "Did the Tudor family put you up to this?" He'd heard his phone call and he knew it couldn't be a coincidence that on the same day he pissed Fiona off, he also got fired at work. He couldn't believe the length she'd gone just to ruin his life even after he signed the divorce papers, "I've given three years of my life to this job and this is how you send me off?" He asked.

The man immediately looked away, a clear indication that he was right and then he turned back into the factory, "If I'm back here and you're not gone, I'll call the cops at once," he said and then threw some dollar notes at him, "That's your pay for the week, get lost!"

Alexander was frozen to the spot, he looked at the money on the floor, it was about $50 and he needed money badly but how could he take it, how could such an amount make up for all his years serving at the factory.

"You better take the money and leave, bro, you know the manager doesn't make empty threats," one of the men said, looking at him with pity.

Alexander stared at the money on the floor and walked out without picking it. He felt numb inside. It felt like his entire life was crumbling within an hour. He'd just discovered that his wife had been cheating on him, he'd gotten divorce papers on the same day and now, he'd also lost his job in the most disgraceful manner.

Looking at the sky, he prayed for some miracle to happen, he had no idea where he'd spend the night and he vowed never to go back, begging Fiona again. He was done with her, if she didn't find him worthy then he wasn't going to plead to stay in her life anymore. It was clear that the Tudor family now detested him.

Alexander walked aimlessly down the neighborhood, looking at the small businesses that lined up the street. He wondered how long it would take him to find another job and finally get back on his feet. He wondered what else was in store for him on such an unfortunate day. "This day couldn't get any worse," he said gloomily.

Suddenly, two black SUVs pulled up right in front of him, tires screeching against the asphalt. Alexander stared in shock as four hefty men came down from the vehicle and moved towards him, a bag was thrown over his head before he could scream for help and he was forced into the car which sped off instantly.
