Chapter 37

The pledgers fell silent, the cheering stopped, and their entire conviction in Pennsylvania vanished. The woman appeared determined to take the shot, and they were certain she would shoot him or he would panic and do something stupid.

Pennsylvania took a deep breath in, attempting to calm himself. Her pulling out a gun was the last thing he expected. Getting her out of the house proved more difficult than he had anticipated. He slammed his disoriented head hard on his palm. He began regretting not taking a short break the moment he became conscious.

"I don't want any trouble, Miss. All I'm asking for are directions," he said, raising his hands.

"Directions to what?" She asked, catching him off guard. Maybe she was overreacting and he was genuinely lost. She always knew the best way to catch a liar was through his own lie. There was silence, which she noted, and her instincts proved her right.

"I will ask again, what directions are you looking for?"

Pennsylvania hit his head once more.
