Thor paced about the waiting room, not daring to walk away in fear that if he left the doctors would come out with information for him. The rest of Garnet’s family came and held vigil in the waiting room while staring at him with open hostility. The sterile white of the hospital walls mocked his churning stomach and he felt so sick, it was like the walls were closing in. It had been several long hours since Garnet had been wheeled into the operating theatre and so far there was still nothing from the doctors and that just made the fear more palpable. He could still hear the gunshot and his mind was stuck in a constant replay of her body falling heavily to the ground. He was afraid, terrified that he would lose her before he got a chance to really live and he felt like he was drowning in a pool of regrets. While other people in the hospital went about their business, not being aware of the torment he was suffering internally he felt like the burden of the world rested on his shoulders.
The memory of Garnet's eyes, wide and accusing, as they met hers before she left her to her death in that distant dusty warehouse sent a shiver down Andrea's spine, she knew without a doubt that Garnet would do everything in her power to seek revenge. If she had known that those fools would dally and not get the job done then she herself would have sent that bullet through Garnet’s head herself because now she had become a huge threat, an even bigger one than before. She paced about the plush confines of her expansive penthouse apartment, feeling at odds in her sumptuous and safe space which now felt oppressively small and suffocating. The air hung heavy with the cloying fear of being discovered and there was a turmoil churning within her. Garnet's unexpected rescue and refusal to die unnerved her badly. Who would have thought that Thor would actually go out of his way to find her? And he had done such a quick job of it too, so much that he had been able to save her even though she h
“She is what?” Thor’s world shattered like a dropped glass, its shards flying everywhere and causing tears on every surface. The doctor's words echoed in his head, each syllable a hammer blow to his already battered and weak heart. What had the doctor meant when he said that Garnet had amnesia and it could be permanent. What was he to do with such a diagnosis and the thought that she might never remember him again.“I can’t give you any assurances that she will be able to gain back her memories but with some extensive treatment and therapy there is a slim possibility that she might gain them back.”Thor felt a wave of nausea wash over him as he turned away from the doctor and headed back into the room, but he swallowed it down stubbornly. He had to be strong for her, Garnet needed him now more than ever. He opened the door and to his utmost shock he saw a nurse he had not seen before bent over Garnet’s unconscious form and holding a syringe and she looked like she was just about to
The scent of chamomile and lavender hung heavy in the air as it wafted softly from the candles which had been lit around, it was a stark contrast to the sterile hospital walls Garnet had grown accustomed to the past week. Home, with its sun-drenched garden and long curving drive felt alien yet oddly familiar. The doctors said it would be normal for her to feel disoriented due to the amnesia. But for Garnet, it was a gaping hole in her life, a void she could not seem to fill no matter how hard she tried and try she did, so much that her head aches. The first thing that struck her was the absence of rings on her fingers. No gold band etched with runes to show that she belonged to this man who had constantly hovered around her, fussing over her and staring anxiously at her.Thor. the name which was supposed to be familiar and comforting tasted like sand on her tongue. Images flickered in the corner of her mind – a booming laugh, a mane of golden hair, a gaze that could ignite the sun. B
The news hit Thor like a wave crashing on a beach and throwing him off balance then spitting him onto the rocky shores of reality. Nurse Thompson, the angel of death who had tried unsuccessfully to silence Garnet with a poisoned needle had been eliminated so easily. Dead. Obviously by the hand of whoever had hired her in the first place to kill Garnet. Thor was pleased. A person who was tasked with saving lives and decided to take away a life simply because of some money did not deserve to live. The only regret he felt was that he had not been able to get her to confess before her death. The police were ruling the death as an accidental death, by some twist of fate so cruel that had felt preordained, the squad car which had been transporting her from the hospital to the station got into an accident suddenly they said. Witnesses to the event reported the speeding vehicle losing control on a slick road, spinning into oblivion. No foul play, they said. Just bad luck. But Thor was not bu
Garnet smiled when she saw him but he noticed that her smile seemed a little wary and not as warm as when he had observed her unnoticed and he felt a twinge of unhappiness that he had interrupted the carefree moment she had been enjoying. He wondered if that was what he would have to go through, her recoiling in his presence and being uneasy."Well, hello, Thor," Andrea turned, her smile inviting, a touch too wide. "I did not expect you home so early.""Surprise," Thor grunted, his gaze flickering to Garnet, who sat nestled in her armchair, a hesitant smile playing on her lips. "What brings you here, Andrea?"Andrea's smile stretched a little wider and she examined him with eyes that hinted at a pleasure only she could give. "I just came by to see Garnet, of course. We used to be such good friends before..." she trailed off, a delicate shrug. "You know how it is after an accident, memories get jumbled. I thought that my presence would be able to help her piece some things together."
The invitation lay heavy in Thor’s hand, an ivory card inscribed with an address he'd seen only in hushed whispers and fleeting articles. The Grandiose House, a sprawling mansion draped in the city's oldest money and even older secrets, was summoning him, a lone entrepreneur amidst a pantheon of power. Thor knew that this was not just a simple luncheon; it was an audition, a gauntlet flung at his feet. He was not the only one aware of the stakes. Greg had happened to be in the living room when then invitation had been delivered. The look on his face had been one of shock and his expression had been confusing until he showed Edward who explained that the letter was offered to people The Big Tree were interested in.Thor could barely contain his excitement. At last, he was in.The venue, a sprawling stone mansion overlooking the harbor, held the air of gilded secrets. Thor, impeccably attired in a suit that held the distinct scent of a seasoned tailor's magic, stood out amongst the cro
The front door slid open and Thor stepped inside the house, the remnants of a long day clinging to him like cobwebs. He wanted so badly to kick off his shoes as he had spent virtually all of the day standing on his feet. As he walked towards the living room he wondered why it was so quiet, usually the gentle lilt of classical music would greet him, but tonight, there was only an unsettling quiet. He found Garnet and Bill curled up on the sofa, a shared blanket draped over their legs like a conspiratorial cloak. At the sight of him, Garnet seemed to shrink into herself and he was taken aback by that. He thought that he had started to have a better relationship with her and she had seemed to be warming up to him. He glanced at Bill’s face and knew he had something to do with her reaction."Hey, guys," he said, his voice Cold. "What's going on?"Garnet, her face etched with a worry Thor had not seen in a while, looked up. "Hi, Thor. Bill came over and we were just... catching up.""Catchi
