In the kitchen of Jurdelious and Krene, Eva was washing the dishes while humming a soothing melody, her black hair tied neatly into a bun. Everyone just had their dinner, Jurdelious and her son were watching a movie in the living room while her two daughters were already asleep. Krene was nowhere to be found in the house, she was most likely in the back yard sitting on her favorite chair and staring at the night sky.
*CLACK*The front door opened, producing a rusty sound that attracted the attention of Eva and Jurdelious. Walking through the door was Al'ravee who seemed to be absent-minded.Eva sighed in relief when she saw her husband. Earlier, Al'ravee had sent her a text that he was fine and just going to see an old friend, later he sent another text that said he was coming back home." Ravee, welcome home..." Eva was saying but stopped when she saw the troubled expression on Al'ravee's face. " How was your day, what's with the long face?"Al'ravee looked at her and opened his mouth to respond but no words came forth. He wanted to tell her how his day was, he wanted to tell her that he finally met an old friend, he wanted to tell her that he got news of a friend that ran away... but... anytime he remembered what Murry had told him, he would just stand wherever he was, dumbfounded." I'll talk to you later, I'm going to bed." Al'ravee sighed and said in a low tone. He didn't wait for Eva's reaction before he walked upstairs to his old bedroom which he and his wife currently shared.Jurdelious who heard the exchange between his son and his wife turned back to see Al'ravee walking up the stairs with slumped shoulders. Jurdelious sighed within and said to himself. " It's unavoidable that you will lose those that are close to you. Most of us had this experience..". Though Eva was unable to hear what he was saying. The little boy sitting next to him was too engrossed with what he was watching to notice that his father was back or that his grandfather just said something.Al'ravee arrived in his bedroom and recounted all that Al'ravee had told him again and again.According to Murry, he never passed the entrance test the first time. He had lied to everyone back then out of shame. That year, his family which only consisted of his brother and father happened to be moving to the city not too far from the University, and that's why Murry decided to go for the entrance exam. It was an advantage for him cause even though he failed, his residence was still nearby.Murry didn't give up though, the university allowed students to write the exam multiple times so he was able to write and pass the exams the next year.Murry had always had some sort of suppressed pride but his failure made him humble. Al'ravee was reminded of the last love play that Murry had with a girl named Josephine before he entered a higher institution. Out of pure coincidence, she was also admitted into the same university as Murry, though she passed the first year and was then further than him. One thing lead to another and they rekindled their old flame.Murry wanted to be a politician but he never knew how hard it was to be one. It wasn't until his lecturer explained to his set that he finally understood the ups and downs of politics. In simple terms, if you stayed at a low position in society, maybe the chief of a small area, all will be fine. But if you tried to go higher, things will get really complicated. After all, no matter how you described politics, at the end of it was trying to gain authority and power... and in some cases, by any means possible. Murry said that most politicians would laugh in mockery anytime they saw actors trying to behave like actual politicians. They didn't even know a quarter of what goes on behind the scenes. In their circle, scheming was inevitable. After graduation, what Murry needed the most was support from someone he knew and trusted, lucky for him, he met Josephine. The type of government practiced on Planet GreenCloud was a Council system where a group of people hold the highest power in a region. Over the years, countless scholars have perfected this practice to ensure effective leadership. In the country that Al'ravee lived in, the council was allowed to have a maximum of Twenty-five members. Normally, a new council member could only be selected if; A council member retired, died, or was jointly voted out by his fellow members, and someone could only become a part of the council if and only if the number of civilian votes in the country was highest among candidates.Currently, Murry's goal was to occupy one of the three vacant spots for the council. This process could take years without anyone being chosen to take one of the seats so he still had enough time. What he needed was to gather people who were not gutsy enough to pursue the position to support him and to be able to convince more than half of the council members that he was worthy of the seat.Of course, Murry wasn't the only one who wanted to achieve that goal, so he naturally had enemies. Every one of those candidates who wanted that position were willing to scheme against each other to make themselves look more appealing to the council... Ivan was a victim of one of those schemes.During an operation with his gang, an operation where they were asked to silence the family member of an extremely rich and influential chief. It was one of those rare moments when the always-protected lady decided to go out on her own without anyone else knowing about it, or so she thought. With the help of inside information and a not-well-known gang, they successfully cornered her. Unfortunately, Ivan had to be the one to pull the trigger. One of Murry's completions who he suspected was behind the killing in the first place, took the 'opportunity' to get Ivan, claiming that he was responsible for the murder, therefore gaining the support of the chief whose daughter was killed. As for Ivan, according to the law, he was to be sentenced to death after the court trial. His execution date is three weeks from now.Al'ravee lay on his bed, completely disheartened, not in any mood whatsoever to talk with anyone. There was nothing that Murry could do. Any act to assist Ivan in avoiding the death penalty will immediately give the council a bad impression of him, it wasn't like he would succeed. Murry simply came back to break the news to Ivan's parents when he found out that the scapegoat was his friend. What Al'ravee was thinking of was how to tell Selou about this.Eva came in after some time to see Al'ravee sleeping peacefully, she decided to just ask about today tomorrow. When she got on the bed to lie down beside her husband, she noticed the trace of a frown on his face......*Three weeks later*In a dimly lit room, three people could be seen, all having solemn expressions. The first person stood right next to the wall with one of his hands on a lever. The second person was a young man in a priest robe holding onto a string of beads while muttering a prayer. The last person was strapped to a wooden chair tightly to prevent him from moving. The person on the wooden chair had his face down, clearly not paying attention to what came out of the priest's mouth. His head seemed to have just been shaved not too long ago as light from the ceiling was reflected from his bald head. If one looked carefully, one would see that the man's arms were trembling feverishly. The man on the chair was Ivan, a friend of Al'ravee and Murry, ex-lover of Selou, father of Duane, the one who was going to be executed today. In front of them was a transparent glass wall and behind the glass wall was a group of about twenty-odd people. Among them were Al'ravee and other familiar faces. Al'ravee didn't want to be here today but he just couldn't help but come. He still remembered what Ivan said to him the last time he visited...."Al'ravee... It is nice to see you again, though I would have preferred our last meeting in a.... better circumstance." Ivan said, his locks of blonde hair hanging over his eyes.Al'ravee sat in front of him and just took in the current sight of Ivan in prison clothes. Long gone was that optimistic, always smiling, love-sick boy. All that's left is a dreg of society, his current situation a result of consecutive bad choices in the past." Oh... I see, there are a lot of things going through your mind right now so you are still speechless. I understand, I too was speechless in the courtroom." Ivan gave off a melancholic smile. " Can you believe it, I'm going to die soon, not by natural cause but by the hands of another man. Hehehe and there's no fucking thing I can do about it."Al'ravee sighed. " What happened to you, Ivan."Al'ravee sighed. " What happened to you, Ivan?." Al'ravee looked at Ivan in confusion. Although he wasn't exactly happy to see Ivan after so long, he wasn't sad either. It's just that when Murry told him that he had news of Ivan, he was expecting the reunion to be in such a manner.Hearing Al'ravee's question, Ivan frowned uncharacteristically. "What do you mean by that question huh?, do you expect me to tell you how unfair life had been for me or that I was practically living like a street dog out there so that you can relax knowing that stuff you called hard work was simply a privilege? Even Murry who had it best of all of us could not help me to protect himself humph."Al'ravee was a bit shocked by Ivan's reply. "Unfair?" He asked trying to hold the pure wrath that he felt towards Ivan. " Life wouldn't be unfair if you had never run away in the first place.."" Oh come on, even you know that me running away back then made no difference. Look at Selou, when she came hear, she told m
*Three Years Later* The news of Ivan's death quickly went under the bridge and after Al'ravee left, his thoughts were that the only reason he would have to come back was to bring his parents to live with him over there in his own house. After all, he originally wanted to get away from his parents in his early years but now, he really missed their presence, he missed his mother's nagging, he missed his father's gentle but intimidating gaze, and the scene of them always discussing something that no one ever knew. He wanted to spend some missed quality time with them before any unforeseen situation popped up. Too bad, Krene and Jurdelious had other plans.Just when the people of planet Green Cloud were celebrating the new year, Al'ravee received a call from home saying that his father Jurdelious... was dead. Many people ranging from neighbors to family friends, to former work colleagues were deeply saddened by the sudden departure of Jurdelious. Al'ravee as the only child was responsible
"...A-and that's pretty much most of what I remember. Hey, it's your turn."" There are a few lapses in my memory but I think it's possible." An old man with neck-length white hair said as he was assisted onto a large sofa in a wide meeting room. The meeting room had old men and women sitting around together on large couches and wooden chairs. This was an elderly home and apart from the oldies, a few nurses and carers were walking around while also eavesdropping on what the old ones were talking about. The elderly people were passing time by talking about what they remembered from their old days."Let's see. I'll start from the very first thing I remember... wait, quick question. Does any of you have any memory of when you were born?" The old man asked."No""No""No, do you?""Of course not, I'm just asking. The first thing I know I could remember was a pitch-black empty area with just my father and mother looking at me. Yeah, after that..." The old man slowly tried to recall his mem
* In an unknown area*On a seemingly vast plain filled with bright green vegetation, a small wooden cottage stood firmly against the fresh and calm breeze. Inside the cottage was an empty living room with a brown bear rug next to a lit fireplace."Stylaff, why is your realm so dry and lacking activity? It has only one layer, you should make it more lively one of these days." A deep booming voice rang out from nowhere in particular place inside the cottage.*BUZZ*A particular space turned blurry for a moment and vibrated before a crooked figure blended into existence. It was an old woman who was putting on a fantastic and luxurious green gown. On her head filled with pristine white hair was a crown made from vines, adoring her wrinkled face was a pair of glowing lemon-green eyes that had green tear marks beneath them and on her elbows were brown thorns that tore through her sleeves like they were growing out of her arms.As she appeared, she gave a small bow and said. " Greetings Lor
The mysterious man maintained a distance of twenty-four meters, nothing more and nothing less with Al'ravee. Al'ravee followed the man until they reached the gate of the graveyard yard. He was finally able to walk closer to the man when the other party stood still. "Here, let's take a seat shall we?" The man said, motioning to the white bench a few meters away from them.Al'ravee didn't say anything, he had a feeling that this man wasn't going to answer his questions if they didn't sit down. He and the mysterious man sat quietly on the bench as they watched cars pass by at incredible speed. Not a lot of people were willing to drive by a graveyard at leisure speed. Finally, Al'ravee could no longer take the silence, he had questions and he needed answers now. "What is going on? Am I not supposed to be dead." Al'ravee let out."Of course not, you are a god Al'ravee, gods don't die from aging. We are eternal from birth." Said the mysterious man.Al'ravee looked at the man with a look t
"If you want to know about anything beyond that, you first have to become strong enough because even I have never seen anyone stronger than your parents."It took Al'ravee a moment to understand what Ris had just said. When he asked how strong gods could possibly get, he was doing so from the perspective of a mortal. He wasn't expecting there to be an actual power ranking and one that seemed a bit short at that."it doesn't seem like a hassle to reach the level of my parents," Al'ravee said skeptically.Ris turned his head away from the sky to look at the hundred-year-old man in shock like he had just seen an alien for the first time. " pfft... no... Hahaha... you did not just say... hahahahaaaaaaaa..." Ris continued laughing in a way that seemed forced yet genuine enough that Al'ravee could see tears in his sky-blue eyes.Al'ravee couldn't help but feel that what he said was very embarrassing even if he didn't know why. From how this familiar yet unfamiliar Ris was reacting, what he s
Inside one of the rooms of a busy hospital, a very comfy-looking bed was set right next to a machine that the humans of planet Green Cloud called a heart monitor.Sitting on the bed, a seventy-year-old-looking woman was in the middle of talking excitedly with the group of people surrounding her. Above her head were floating balloons, all of them having been imprinted with planet Green Clouds language version of 'Happy Birthday 'The beautiful smile on her face seemed to make the white hospital room brighten up, anyone who passed would most likely wonder what could make such a wonderful-looking old lady so happy. With her smile being kind of contagious, the visitors standing in the room also gave out beaming smiles. All in all, everyone here was happy to be with this woman.Among the eighth men and women inside, one of the men stepped forward to give the old lady a gift. He had previously been blocking the old lady's view of the entrance door but as he moved out of the way, she was able
"There's no good or bad my friend. I once believed that the world was divided into parts of black and white, but the truth is that it's made up of different shades of grey. I think that should simplify things for you."Those were the same words Murry, his good friend, had said to him after he watched Ivan get electrocuted to death. And these were the same words he said to the bloodied man tied to an armless metal chair in front of him. With fresh bloody gashes all over his naked torso, one could only imagine the amount of pain it caused just by looking at them. With great effort, the bloody tied-up man raised his head to stare at the tall man in a black tight-fitting suit. "*sniff* p-please, let me go, I beg of you." He pleaded in a weak voice.Al'ravee shook his head and smiled. "That philosophy has been in my mind for a long time, even though I didn't like it at first." He paused to look up, he couldn't let the man see the tears in his eyes "I believed that there should be good and
