The Deputy Governor of the state, Elias Crane, was presently the Mayor-in-charge of Springfield. Born into a wealthy and influential family, he never learned to be humble or flexible. The young man was such an elitist that when he saw the modest City Hall building for the first time, he turned around and left.

Elias Crane booked an entire floor in Hotel Braganza, one of the most expensive seven-star hotels in the state. He transferred all his staff and work paraphernalia there and converted a luxurious suite into his office.

As Claire entered Hotel Braganza with Victor, the Mayor's secretary recognized her and ushered them into the waiting room.

"Please rest here, Miss Holt," she said with a professional demeanor. "I'll inform Mr. Crane about your arrival."

Claire turned to Victor and grumbled. "I don't see why the new Mayor spent so much money relocating the entire local government from City Hall to Hotel Braganza. It seems like a colossal waste of taxpayer money."
