Last night was one of the most peaceful nights Maxwell has ever had. The beep from his phone got him tossing on the mini-framed bed.

With his eyes closed, he reached out for the phone and placed it in his ear after swiping the receive button.

"You need to wake up, son." Zander's voice came booming into the phone. I got the report last night. You were knocked off.".

Maxwell scoffed. He knew his uncle would always call to make mockery of him. He steadied himself on the bed and got up quickly. His voice still has a thick tone.

"I don’t know what that was." He said as he was wiping his face. As he spoke into the phone, he scanned the room. Mancho had gone out; the time on the wall displayed 6:45 a.m. Maxwell wondered where Mancho could have gone at this time of the day.

"We have a long way to go, Maxwell. Malcolm has asked that we train you properly. I will have Mancho teach you in my place.".

"Are you going out of town?"

"No, I shall be your supervisor in the meantime. Have you heard fro

The day had finally come. Maxwell had his bag packed. Dressed in an all-black leather outfit. He walked into his room again and stared at the mirror. Nothing was going to let him come back without taking down Damien and his entire family. With his smartwatch on his wrist and the airpods in his ears, there was no need to mask his face against his parents' killer.A tight knot squeezed in his stomach—a taste for blood and revenge. Damien must submit to him, whether he is dead or alive. He didn't care about the rest of the team. Mancho and his boys would handle them fairly. Damien would go down first with kicks, and then the bullet would do the final job."C'mon, Max, we have no time." Zanders' voice rang from the corridor, and then he tapped on his door."I will be out for a minute." Max called out. Patting his chest a few times, he took a deep breath and searched the room for his bag. He had laid it on the bed and covered it with the comforter."What the fuck?" He mouthed, but then his

I stood, inhaling every breath that wafted past my nostrils. I took a deep breath and shook my head."C'mon, man, get yourself together." Zander said, patting Maxwell on the back. Max grabbed his glasses and headed out.The trucks were set. Two were loaded with guns. The men called in to make sure we were on the right track.Carlos knows the city; his men are everywhere. We walked out of the building and hopped into the trucks. Mancho was rougher with the truck than the Bentley we had used some days ago. He galloped in and out of the rocky road. In about forty-five minutes, we drove to the house Zander had shown me in the photograph.I smiled. An old car stood messily in front of the building. We got straight into the house and surveyed the place. Zander burst the door open with one jab. We trooped in. Searching the entire house, from the sitting room down to the rooms upstairs. But we didn't find anything."He's smart, huh?" Zander said he adjusted his hat and called on us to follow

"Zander," the voice came booming with shock."Surprised huh?"."Well, put down your weapon so we can have a peaceful talk. Heart to heart, or what do you think, Damien?" Zander asked in a sarcastic tone. Damien had blood staining on his grey shirt. He still had his gun pointed out towards Zander and his men."He's proving stubborn as usual; take him out." Ordered in a blink. Maxwell shot the guy Mancho had held captive for about fifteen minutes. The guy shouted and fell to the ground, the bullet sinking into his stomach."Maybe he will learn to cooperate." Zander commented. The other two men held their guns, pointing at Damien, but he still wouldn't relent.Mancho, the captain, join the others outside. We need more men around the house than in it.""Yes boss". They both answered in unison and left, heading straight for the lobby leading outside."Maybe he wants us to go the hard way," Zander said, pulling out his cigarette from his breast pocket. He lit it and placed it on his lip. Da

The morning Maxwell was to leave was the most emotional morning for Zander and Maxwell. Zander had come a few hours ago to check. He found Maxwell sleeping so much at peace. He quickly ordered his chef to make some food. A quick breakfast before he leaves would be just perfect.By the time Maxwell woke up, everything was set. He hurriedly took his bath and came downstairs to meet his uncle. What he needs to know about the family is all at his fingertips. He is even more grateful to Uncle Zander for helping him get through his most trying times.Having a famous supporter, as this was what he had always wished for, he couldn't ask for less. The timing was perfect. Grandpa knew what he was doing, coming to look for him just when he was grown and mature enough to carry out tasks without asking too many questions."Breakfast is served." The chef announced. A mid-aged woman, her bronze hair stood out on one side of the bonnet. She tucked it in and smiled at him.Maxwell returned the smile.

"Kids?". Maxwell finally gathered the courage to ask. He continued to wipe the wine off his body."Yes, your own kids, or aren't you supposed to make kids?" Zander asked, staring from Maxwell to his father. He needed approval, an answer, or something.Maxwell swallowed hard. In his mind, he knows that was not part of the plan; that was not part of the bargain. His futile goal now is to protect Athena and make her family realize her worth and importance.Get his revenge on those he wants revenge on, and that's it. A life after should be more focused on work and making those around him happy. Athena was definitely one of those he wanted to see happy at all times. He has succeeded in getting one of his major problems solved. He didn't need to add a problem that was not on the list."Why is your face like that?" Grandpa asked Maxwell immediately, and he noticed his change in demeanor. Grandpa was fast and very observant; he could tell there was a problem with just two glances. Maxwell swa

Maxwell arrived at Grandpa's house earlier than we had planned. He has decided to discipline himself to walk strictly on time. Zander would be disappointed if, after all, he had warned me about arriving for meetings late, which fell on deaf ears.Maxwell hopped on the second bus to grandpa's city, which was just about thirty minutes away from the Fairmont mansion where he lived. When the maids met me at the door, they bowed to me and greeted me politely. I responded to the greeting and went straight in search of Grandad. Zander had returned to his home, and Mirabela was at work. And since I do not have a job yet, I volunteered to go with Grandpa to play his favorite game. I strolled up the stairs into Grandpa's large room. Grandpa was already dressed in his golf clothes. A face cap, a white shirt, and a pair of tan pants. "You look handsome grandpa." I teased a bit. Grandpa always had that smile on his face each time I teased him about his physical looks. "I was the finest amongst

Grandpa Wilmore meant every word he said to his friends. Maxwell marveled at how well he had played. He scored the highest point. Cheng and Leonardo had tried to place a bet on the game, but Grandpa Wilmore spoke against it. He didn't want them to lose all their fortune to him, as he had teased. Maxwell enjoyed the company of the old men. One day, he would be like Grandpa, with wealthy friends and a good family by his side. Wealth is indeed a very crucial aspect of man's existence. Within the few hours he spent with Grandpa Wilmore and his friends, Maxwell was able to learn a bit about investments. The men never stopped talking about the money they had invested in multibillion-dollar companies. At first, it seemed like a joke, but when he thought about those saved up for him in a card he was given months ago, he was convinced that these men could buy a nation with their wealth if they wanted. However, the one thing striking about them is their level of humility. With all the money

These past few days have been fun for Maxwell. For a second, he didn't think that he would want to leave his grandpa's house for anything. However, he had to go back to his old life, living with the Fairmonts with everyday problems. At the door, Athena welcomed him with a hug.She couldn't express how much she had missed his presence around the house. Of course he missed her too, but it's nothing compared to how much he was going to miss his grandpa and uncle Zander. He didn't have much of a chance to spend with Mirabella because she was always working, which made him feel lazy. If Mirabella could work so hard for such long hours despite all the money he has in her name, then he has to do more and better when he finally resumes his position. Grandpa had told him all he needed to know, but deep down in his heart, he was sure the Wilmores had another huge surprise for him."How was your day with your grandpa?" Athena asked. Max furrowed his brows, recalling that he had told her he was

Maxwell and Mirabella approached the hall with their suits and their dark glasses looking so perfect in them. They had decided to go in the same dress that night, even though it wasn't their grandmother's party. The large hall was filled with guests; honorable men and women of the press were also fully present. They walked down and found the perfect spot to sit. Athena's grandma and her sons were seated on one large table. While Veronica and Athena were busy welcoming the guests into the hall, Just then Maxwell's eyes locked with Grandma Elizabeth, and she got up sharply from her seat and walked towards him.“Hey! Aren't you the wretched boy Athena brought into my home?” She asked with her aged hands on her waist.“I am that same boy, ma'am." Maxwell said, standing up from his seat.“I can see you cleaned up well, but all you need to know is that a pig will always be a pig. You do not need to borrow all of these things to look good because you want to creep into my family." She said

She said she wanted to get to know me, and I said fine, and then she suddenly started acting funny and crazy. She's really a creepy one. She wants me, and I can see it in her eyes. I'm never going to let her take advantage of me." Maxwell said.Athena raised her nose at him and said, “I can see that. You're irresistible, you think?” She asked sarcastically.“Of course I am irresistible, just that you are blind to it." Maxwell teased and poked her nose softly. “Grandpa is waiting for you; we thought something had happened, so I came to get you myself.”.“As my saviour or guardian angel?” “Whichever one you pick, I don't really care." Maxwell picked Athena up at the exact time he told her. This time she wore a black dress with a crossed strap at the back. Her hair swayed on her shoulders as she walked out of the house to meet him outside.Hello, Mr. Maxwell." She said this to him with a broad smile on her face."Hello, Ms. Fairmont, Are I late?” He asked her casually, his broad smile gracing his appearance. “Nope! You aren't late for the appointment, Mr. CEO." She responded by flapping her hands over her face so he would notice her makeup. She had to do the regular type by herself. She sensed that tonight's occasion was going to be a really heavy one, so she invited a makeup artist over to do the needful on her face. She now had fuller lips than usual, and her nose stood out, pointed and straight, with the help of the contour. “Oh! Okay, I get the message. Your makeup is a hundred percent perfect, and you look really stunning in that black dress, just like a black rose with petals of red on it." Maxwell gave his

The knock on the door was soft and familiar, but he never thought that it would be his grandpa until he answered.“Come in, please." He answered even though his back was turned against the door. He was busy making some photocopies.“Hey,son”. Maxwell turned only to see his grandfather walking into the room with his walking aid on one hand. “Hey pops, you didn't tell me you were coming,” Maxwell said with a smile on his face. He got up from his seat and went to hug his grandfather.“I didn't know I had to call your assistant or book an appointment before coming over to see my son; you should be more grateful, and the old grayed man is paying you an extravagant visit." Shocked to see her, he got up.“Mirabella, is everything alright?” He asked her with shock and curiosity in his tone.“Have you seen the news recently?” Mirabella asked, still pointing at him as he stood to his feet casually.“What about the news? I haven't heard anything, though." Maxwell responded sharply. "Here,” she rummaged through her bag and threw the newspaper down on the table.“What's this?” He asked about picking it up.“Vickie?” He asked in surprise and flipped the page to read the headlines. “My God, who did this to her?” He asked, looking up at Mirabella. She shrugged her shoulders. “I don't know." She replied. He paused for a while and had a flashback to the last day he had met her with those hefty men. She had actually brought them to kill him, but Grandpa was just on time to defend him

After they finished with the dinner, they spoke for a while and cracked jokes to themselves. Athen had never had such a beautiful moment in her life with any man before. Her heart skipped a bit the moment she paused and leaned closer to her. Her body was ready, and just as his lip was about to touch hers, she pulled away.“Uhm! Arrh! I have to go now. I mean, we should go now; we have work to do tomorrow. I have meetings to attend tomorrow." She stuttered the words at him. Maxwell got up and looked down at her. “I get it, and I am sorry. I am willing to wait until you are ready." He told her with a smile, and for a second, Athena had all the tightened air in her stomach loosen. “Thank you”. She said and smiled at him for being so kind and considerate, unlike Sabastian, who tried to drug her to have his way with her. She loves Maxwell's sense of humour and how mature he acts around her. He is the kind that Mark's and protects his territory. She is sure that with him, she would have n

“I shall tell you everything you need to know, and none of it shall I withhold." Maxwell told her calmly, his eyes not straying away from her at all. She had learned to hold his gaze for a little more time before doing anything else. Now that he began to speak, she placed both hands on her lap, barely even checking out the food prepared for them by the five-star chef. Athena looked cool and calm, but deep down in her heart, she had loads of unanswered questions.“I'm waiting, and I plan to listen to all you have to say to me tonight." Athena responded with a calm tone.“I am an orphan. I lost my dad to some killers from the opposition. And my mom was killed a few months after my birth. So my grandpa, Ricjard Wilmore, took me to a woman and asked her to take care of me. He even gave her some money to take care of me. The lady looked away because my life was threatened, so she ran away with the baby, and that's how I grew up in a poor home. I never knew I had a rich father until my fina

Athena looked puzzled as she drove past all the restaurants she had been to yet she never said a word, after a while she began to panic in her heart and then she couldn't just hold it anymore.“Maxwell, where are you going?” She asked curiously Maxwell took a quick look at her and smiled. Somewhere you would love he answered. “Why do you ask though, you don't trust me anymore?” He asked her with a smile forming at the corner of his lip.“It's not that, I am just curious because we've passed almost every restaurant I know “. After the men left, Maxwell looked at his watch. He had planned to go on a date with Athena, at least, if not for anything. She deserved some explanation about how he got to their house and the reason he had to hide his identity. He looked out the window for a while and smiled. There was no way he would let any of his children face the same humiliation he did from the rich folks. He had vowed to make a name for himself, aside from the great Wilmore behind his name. He would make a name for himself with the talent he has built inside of him. He twirled the seat and tossed it side by side. This is just a part of the good life. Nothing on earth would make him leave a life as sweet as this, and the best part of what he has earned with his new name is the respect he gets from the people around him and all those who once looked down on him. He sat in his office after he had the meeting with the staff. He needed to know their names, at least, so he wouldn't address them wrongly. They all
