Chapter one hundred and the fifty three

Rhys was praying that it would somehow revive her, but as the liquid dripped down her chin, he knew it was futile. The cure was meant to save those wrecked by the virus, not those who had already succumbed to it. Rhys knew this, but he couldn’t help himself. He had to try.

As he looked at Elena’s lifeless body, Rhys’s mind screamed with desperation. Was there no way to save her? Was she truly gone? He reached out with his mind, calling out to Rio. “Rio, please,” he begged silently. “Is there nothing we can do? Is there no way to bring her back?”

There was only silence.

Rhys’s mind was met with a deafening quiet, as if Rio was unable or unwilling to respond. Rhys felt a surge of frustration and despair. Why was Rio silent? Didn’t he care that Elena was gone? Rhys asked again, his mind pleading with Rio to respond. “Rio, please. I know you’re there. Help me. Help me save her.”

This time, Rio’s silence was hesitant. Rhys sensed a stirring in the depths of his mind, a hint of uncertainty.
