Chapter one hundred and thirty seven

“Rhys is… he’s kind and caring,” she stammered. “He loves me for who I am.”

The stalker laughed. “How sweet,” he said. “But I’m sure there’s more to it than that.”

Elena tried to think of a way to escape, but her mind was a blank. She was trapped, and she knew it. Just as the stalker was about to say something else, Elena heard a noise behind her. She turned to see Rhys standing there, his eyes blazing with anger.

“Let her go,” he growled, his voice low and menacing.

The stalker smiled. “Ah, Rhys,” he said. “Right on time.”

Elena’s heart was racing. She knew Rhys would save her, knew he would protect her. But she also knew the stalker was unpredictable, knew he would stop at nothing to get what he wanted. “Rhys, be careful,” she warned, trying to keep her voice steady.

But Rhys just smiled. “Don’t worry, Elena,” he said. “I’ve got this.”
