Chapter six

As Rhys turned around, instead of a woman who he assumed was stalking him, he found himself face to face with a middle aged man. The man’s jaw dropped, his eyes were twitching, his mouth letting out incoherent words. “You- you- who are you?” The man inquired.

Rhys raised an eyebrow, he looked around but the man wasn’t talking to anyone else but him, he pointed at himself. “Are you referring to me?”

The man nodded with a huge grin on his face, his eyes were glossy with tears. “Yes, who are you? What is your name? Where is your family?”

Rhys took a good look at the stranger, the man was well dressed in an expensive Armani suit, his hair well gelled and styled, his wristwatch screamed a eight figure sum. At first glance, you could tell that the man was rich, but on a normal day, this sort of personal would not even give Rhys a second glance not to talk of speaking to him. “My name is Rhys Meyers, do you know me?”

No matter how many times he searched his memory, Rhys knew he had never met this person. “His name is Rhys, what prominent family has the surname Meyers?” The man contemplated on this.

Rhys chuckled a little and carefully explained. “It is not a prominent family, just an aristocratic family.”

A sneer appeared on the man’s face, he took in Rhys appearance, analyzing the cost of everything in his head. “What? It doesn’t even cost five hundred dollars. Bastards! How dare they?” The man clenched and unclenched his fist, the more he thought about Rhys living condition, the angrier he became.

“Sorry sir, I don’t understand what you mean.” He subtly looked around, looking for a means to escape.

“Sir? You shouldn’t call me sir,” The man crossed his arms. “You should address me as father.”

“I’m sorry, but I think you have the wrong person.” Rhys simply turned around, ready to leave, assuming that the man was crazy.

“My instinct can never be wrong,” The man suddenly said, halting Rhys steps halfway. “You are Rhys, what sort of name is Rhys? Your mother and I felt Lucius was more benefitting and domineering. Lucius Fernandez. It was perfect!” The man threw his arms out, receiving strange looks from passersby.

Rhys simply shook his head. “I still think you must have the wrong person sir.”

“ Why won’t you believe me? Where are your parents?”

“I grew up in an orphanage.”

“ But-”

Rhys interrupted him. “I understand what you might think, I’m sorry for the loss of your child but I have one question, what sort of parent loses their child and doesn’t try to look for him until years later.”

The pained expression on the man’s face made Rhys realize that he must have hit a soft spot. “We searched everywhere for him.”

“You probably didn’t search well enough, please next time, you shouldn’t go about grabbing random strangers and calling them your child. Have a good day sir.”

He was about to leave when the man grabbed one of his arms. Rhys hissed in pain and glared at him. “Listen here kid, we can either do this the easy way or the hard way.”

“Is there a fourth choice?” Rhys frowned at the man.

“Why is it not number three?”

“Because I love number four.” Rhys responded sarcastically.

“You dare play with me?” “Congratulations you are correct but there’s no prize. Now can you let go, I have somewhere to be.”

“Listen, you are coming with me this instant, I would rather do this to all the wrong ones than let me the right person slip past me.” The man began pulling Rhys to where his car was parked.

“Sir, you might be wrong. My parents are dead, they died in an accident.”

“Who told you that?”

Rhys was silent for a moment. “The orphanage?” His response came out more like a question. “Where are you taking me?”

“Are you this dumb? Obviously to the hospital, we have to get a test done before I can let you go.”

As they arrived at his car, Rhys was stunned silly upon seeing the latest Rolls-Royce model before him.

“Is this yours?” The man opened the passenger door of the car before forcing Rhys in. “Who else would this belong to, if not me?” He had a gloating expression as he moved to the other side of the car, sliding into the passenger seat.

“What if I don’t turn out to be your son, I need some compensation, I accept cash and kinds.”

“Five million.” The man said.

“Ten.”

“Six.”

“Nine.”

“Seven million, no more, no less.”

“Deal!” Rhys felt like he had won a lottery. He was getting paid just to get a simple test done. ‘I would make sure Malia takes back her words.’

The man nodded before starting the car. “The more I look at you, the more I think you look like her.”

“Who?”

“My wife obviously,” He tapped a few times on the smart watch on his wrist, making a call. “Get the equipment ready, I’ll be there in a few minutes.” He ended the call without another word.

“Since you know my name, I think it’s proper to know who you are.” Rhys crossed his arms, relaxing into the soft chair, inhaling the scent of the car.

“Don’t you know me?” The man gave him a confused glance.

“Am I supposed to?” Rhys retorted. “Everyone knows me.”

“Well, I don’t.”

“I’m Alessandro Fernandez, the CEO of Fernandez conglomerate.” Rhys was stunned, he blinked his eyes a few times.

“The CEO of Fernandez conglomerate mistaken me as his son?”

Even though he didn’t watch the news, Rhys had heard a few things about the prominent families in New York, with Fernandez as the number one.

“You should consider yourself lucky.” Alessandro fought the urge to roll his eyes at his genuine shocked expression and simply drove into a hospital.
