He had to roll for two hours at full speed with his motorbike before he could see the shape of the city, the more he was getting close and the more the buildings, the houses, and the monuments which composed the city became clear. At a moment, he could conceive the shapes of the men and women who were waiting for him at the entrance, ahead of him.

"Welcome to our dear Short-river!" said joyfully a man who seemed to be the leader of this small group. "My name is Donald Carson but you can call me Don and there you have my unit". Jamal stepped forward to go greet them, it was a group of only seven members; four men including Don, and three women, they formed a line and came one by one to shake his and introduce themselves.

"Brad March," said the most brawny of the men.

"Axel Becker," a woman with red hair said, she went on to give more details on the origin of her name "my parents didn't know if they wanted a boy or girl so they chose a name which suits both".

"I'm still convinced Axel i

Gunshots were resonating in his ears. In all the buildings around him, people were targeting him, a rain of bullets was falling on him but he was too fast for them to attain him. Although he could stop somewhere safe or directly penetrate one of the buildings to counterattack, he didn't do so as he knew there was something more important to do at the moment first, and going directly for the counterattack would have probably been a waste of his time. [I have to do it quickly, the others may not be able to resist for too long] he recalled himself. What Jamal wanted to do first was to determine the number total of the group of enemies who came to kill them and he thought the best way to do so was to roll around by attracting their attention for him to draw a perimeter of their action zone and by counting the number of times he was shot on he could estimate an idea their number and establish a plan. After 2 minutes of rolling along the streets, he arrived at, what seemed to be, the limit

Though he said that he would be fast to come back after escorting the group which was transporting the wounded, it took several minutes for Jamal to join back the rest of the team. Two of them were sitting recklessly behind their vehicle while the others had their weapons in their hands, surveying the surrounding in case an enemy appeared.[Seems like at least half of them are still vigilant] he thought after he swept a quick glance while stopping before their eyes."What has taken you so long? I thought it would be quick as you've said," they were getting near him while Sania asked this question."Yeah I know, you may excuse me," he stroked the back of his head while taking a look at his back, "in fact, on my way back I happened to see the rest of the enemies on the streets, it seemed that they were ready to attack you as they were fully armed and were running in this direction, so...""So you took the chance to eliminate them all," they all said in one voice. They glanced at him wit

Jamal patted Brad's cheek while shouting at him to wake up. When he finally opened his eyes, he started gazing around him to try to recognize where he was and he found out that he was in a little room enlightened by a single neon hung on a low ceiling. Then, his sight landed on Jamal's face. Brad's face was deformed by the anger, he tried to jump on him many times in vain before he realized that his arms and legs were chained to the chair he was sitting on. Jamal didn't want to waste his time waiting for him to calm down, so he began his interrogation while he was still struggling."Listen, at the other side of this door," he pointed to the only door, the only entrance and exit of the room, which was behind him, "there is a guy who is waiting with a lot of tools I can use to torture you, all that for you to understand that sooner or later you will talk so let's save our time and tell me right now what I want to know".Brad tried to spit on his face, but Jamal dodged it so he went on c

After Jamal finished explaining his plan, people left the place to rush into their vehicles and where they would wait for the signal to leave for, what was believed to be, their last battle in Short-river.In all this agitation he had some difficulties finding Don and his team.[Where are they? I have seen them a moment ago during my speech, though]. He took a look one more time again and he finally found them. They were at a distant place, where their pickups were parked, as they were busy loading their stuff in them. When he was walking toward them, Daphne was the first one to see him, she quickly pretended to look away and Jamal immediately got it, [she knew about his deal with Bart, she looks innocent in the appearance but she might be as guilty as Brad] he thought. He reached them and when they came to greet him, the woman still stayed in her corner. Jamal just ignored her as he thought it would be better to deal with her later."Hello Mr. Jamal," Don said with enjoyment underlin

Jamal was in the passenger seat in the convertible car Volga had stolen from the outlaws, while on their right, Volga's subordinate was driving the second car accompanied by Sania beside him and the two pickups which were following them from the back. Jamal had decided to leave his motorbike in Donald's car and go with the other captain. He wanted to diminish a little bit the image of a distant figure his comrades of Short-river had of him, and so he knew had to stop staying on his side but also being lesser solo. While they were rolling toward the rich sector, he decided to contact the other teams which were already hidden there on standby."Here is Jamal. How is the situation over there?" he asked on the walkie-talkie in his hand. Following the protocol, it's the leader of the first team who gave his report first."Here is Nolan. I have seen, earlier, groups of outlaws, in their vehicles, coming from their surveillance spots to your direction, just as planned. Now the way is clear,

  • The Red Nights    35- Festivity, Confession and Judgement

It was a festival of cacophony. A cortege of clamorous cars was heading back to the HQ. People were sitting on the doors of the cars, even on the roofs and wherever they could hang on them. They were clapping and whistling while shouting some victorious songs, they were not even in rhythm but they didn't care as long as it was joyful.Jamal was still with Volga in the convertible, which she now grew attached to. They were driving ahead of the cortege while enjoying the songs and laughing while Volga was telling him about the previous battles against the outlaws she had experienced far before he came. Jamal noticed that she purposely selected the non-tragic anecdotes where they triumphed over them or only those with hilarious content and just skipped those where people died. She didn't say anything about it, but Jamal knew only through her eyes that she had lost many comrades."Hum... can I ask you something?" she said after a short pause. He noticed that she was a little sheepish, may

The party was already over for a moment and there were still two to three drunk guys who were dancing and singing some happy songs in the hallways while the others were spread in the edifice wondering about what should they do next. Jamal was outside with Volga and Sania the only two people who agreed to follow him on his journey. They were charging their stuff in the cars and prepared to leave soon.Earlier, before the party officially started, he had made his announcement and later gave a reminder around the end of the party. After that was following a festive mood where Jamal was surrounded by many people who were questioning him about his performances and starving to hear some of his adventures, and he couldn't turn them down as they insisted very much while Volga was in her corner hidden from any curious sight flirting with her new lover, they were laughing, touching each other and kissing like a couple of teenagers. At a moment, she suddenly moved her sight away to take a look a

  • The Red Nights    37- Sunset

Jamal was heading for MontClay, the second city. In the end, the soldiers he brought with him were only half of the army he had saved in Short-river, however, this result didn't bother him, and on the contrary, he thought it was rather a good number. As it was the city the most in crisis, he didn't expect so many of them to agree to join in. That was why he was not very insistent during his speech."We should be there within 10 minutes," Volga shouted. They were rolling for quite a long while now and the shape of the city started to be perceived forward on the horizon while, on the side, the sun was slowly falling, pushing them slowly but further into the darkness."Would they provide some greeters as we did for you?" she asked while glancing at the sun with worried eyes."I don't think so," he responded. "They had planned that I would take two days to treat your case, therefore they are expecting me to arrive there only tomorrow"."Oh, I see. And do you know where we have to go? Did

She was immobile with the shoelaces in her hands while she was about to tie her shoes and didn't move at all even to raise her head when Lina asked her "What are you doing?"She lifted her head slowly and with a forced smile, she gazed away as if she was looking for a good excuse before she said with an uncertain tone " I-I...
