The Return Of General Shade (The Slayer)

In the large Clifford mansion, Jake was seated on a single white sofa. He could not stop tapping on his fingers anxiously, and even if he wanted to stop, his gaze was blankly fixed elsewhere. Next to him was Anna who had their daughter Sasha in her arms.

But she suddenly handed Sasha, who was starting to fall asleep, to her father and rose to her feet. Her eyes were consumed with frustration.

Anna could not stop pacing around; she had waited so much for this day, there had been so much anticipation, and it had been the main reason she agreed to this marriage, but now, no matter how much she wanted to calm down, she couldn't.

“You do know that no matter how much you give pacing around, it isn't going to solve any of the problems right now, instead it is only going to make you dizzy”

Jake suggested with a long shrug after not being able to endure seeing his wife like that anymore.

“If you don't want me to stop pacing, then you should probably give me a good explanation as to what happened because no matter how I think about it, I can't get it around my head!”

Anna bit the bottom of her lip in frustration; she could hear even the sound of her heartbeat not to mention the fact that it was throbbing heavily.

“How am I going to face my friends at the club? They were all there; they witnessed this humiliation; whose promotion gets taken away at the last minute? How does that happen!”

She yelled again, her voice was going above the roof and no matter how angry Jake felt with the way she was acting, he was struggling so hard to remain calm.

“It was from someone powerful and for a military personnel to stop such a promotion that had already been sanctioned, he must be indeed really powerful, which is why we have to wait for my Dad to get back, he has gone to verify what is happening”

He calmly tried to assure her, but his words didn't make much difference to her; this time, she bit the tip of her finger; her once fair skin had all turned red as a result of rage.

Just then, the door slammed open; Mr. Jonathan walked in, and his jaws tightened into a frown; he did not say a word to anyone as he walked right to the wine cellar, where he served himself a glass of strong vodka.

“Dad, talk to us, what is going on?”

“Have you heard of the name Shade?” Mr. Jonathan, who has now settled on the large single couch, asked.

“Of course, who hasn't heard about him, Shade the Slayer, he is a legend in the military world, no one has ever seen him and I was told that he had been away on an undercover mission for years”

“Well, guess what, he is back in the office and the first order that he gives the moment he returns to office is to have your promotion canceled”

“What!” Jake and Anna screamed in unison with their eyes widened that it seemed like it was going to pull out of its socket.

“Why would be so such a thing, he doesn't even know me”

“From the way it sounded, he knows you and might have a personal vendetta against you”

Mr. Jonathan sipped from his glass of vodka, and while he did, his eyes pierced into nothing, and his fingers fiddled with the glass he held.

Jake stared briefly at his wife; no matter how much it was explained to him, he was at a loss for words.

“I have no idea why a powerful man like the shade will have a personal vendetta against me, I have never met him before”

“I don't know what is going on here son, but all that I can say to you is that I have put in so much effort towards this promotion, some much is hanging on the trend here, no matter how hard it gets, you have to find a way to make it work”

“How, what am I supposed to do?” A perplexed Jake asked, but Mr. Jonathan rose to his feet, walked over to his son, and gently patted his back.

“You are a man like him, he is your superior, so go over to his office tomorrow and sort out things with him, but do not forget that in the military world, everyone wants something, find out what he wants, and that way, you will be able to strike a deal with him”

He advised that Jake had his mouth wide open as he watched his Dad walk out of there.

“So what are you going to do and how do you intend to find what a mystery man like him wants from you”

“Exactly my point, this man has been away from civilization for five years now, there is no way for me to be able to know what he wants”

He let out a frustrating groan as he ran his fingers through his hair.

“You have to find a way through this, I don't care how you do it, but I am not going to look like a fool in front of my friends”

She stood close to him, whispered the words to with a blazing glare at him, and just like his father, she stormed out of there.

The next day, Jake could barely get even a wink of sleep. He woke up very early, and once he was done getting dressed in his military uniform, Anna stood before him, her fingers caressing the strike on his shoulder.

“I am really getting tired of seeing this strikes and being regarded as the wife of a low-rank military, you have to do something about this and get a better rank”

She suggested, but Jake ignored her words and stared at his reflection one last time before storming out of there.

Jake was able to pull some strings to the office of General Shade; that way, he would be able to be granted access to see the boss. Although it was a very difficult task for him, yet he was certain that he would be granted an audience with the big boss once he got there, and now, he could not stop fiddling with his finger, feeling nervous regarding what the outcome of this meeting was going to be.

But as soon as Jake drove into the driveway, there was a familiar figure standing right there, he felt like this figure was the reason his wife was so mad at him this morning.

Jake clenched his fist hard, there were so many thoughts that began spiraling through his head at that moment.

Without a second thought, Jake stepped on the pedal and drove his car right towards Kyle at full speed. Kyle had seen the car coming towards him on time. First, he quickly stumbled back but knew that he had to work on his instincts.

He rolled to the ground, trying to catch his breath, the car screeched to a halt. When Jake stepped out of his and walked towards him, his eyes blazing with rage, no doubt that if he had the opportunity just now, he would have ended his life.
