Chapter One hundred and six, Nanny Grace

Chris was just leaving the police station, still shaken by the recent events and the heavy accusations against him, when his phone buzzed. It was an unfamiliar number, but he answered it, hoping it might be some good news amidst the turmoil.

“Hello?” he answered, his voice tinged with exhaustion.

“Chris, is that you?” came the frail, familiar voice of Nanny Grace. His heart skipped a beat. Nanny Grace was his grandmother from his mother’s side, a woman who had taken him in when he had nowhere else to go.

“Nanny Grace! What’s wrong?” Chris asked, his concern mounting instantly.

“I’m not feeling well, dear. I’ve been brought to the hospital in the city. They couldn’t operate on me in the village,” she explained, her voice trembling with weakness.
