Chapter 1. (A glimpse into The Unrefined Jason Lee)

September 29th 2009,

“W-here's where's m-my Angel?”

As Jason opened his eyes, he looked around, dazed. The eyes felt too heavy to be opened, but he refused to close them. As his eyes rested on the strange man, he blinked rapidly,

"W-who are y-you?” he questioned while staring intently at the man,

"For now, that's not important. You'll get to know me in time, but right now, we need to leave this shack! Your life is in danger!”

The strange man muttered, his eyes darting between the shack and the door. Hearing the urgency in the man's voice, chills crept down Jason's frail body, and he gulped, returning his gaze to the man, he blinked once more,

"W-what do you m-mean? I'm safe here, nobody will ever think to f-find me in a shack”

The strange man scoffed, and shook his head,

“Boy, if only you knew”, was his curt response, and as Jason watched him, he struggled to sit up against the bare and flat mattress that lay on the floor.

The more Jason stared around his surroundings, the more tears welled up in his throat and eyes, he couldn't tell for how long he had been in this godforsaken place, but after His Angel had found him, she had brought him here for him to heal.

He shook his head to rid himself of the memories that were coming in torrents, the impact of the car hitting the car he had occupied, his head hitting the window, and the fire that engulfed the car, and a part of his body. As Jason remembered, his entire body was filled with sweat and he began to tremble, his eyes turning within,

“Hey, boy! Hey! Don't you die on me now! Now isn't the time, boy!" a voice cried out, but it sounded too far away; Jason could hardly reach the voice.

“Come on! Come on! Boy!!!!!"

Jason could feel his chest heavily rising and falling, cold seeping through his body, and at the same time, his entire body felt hot and weak. In his weak state, he could see a bright light, and His Angel was walking through that light, he smiled and stretched out his arms, he wanted to be with her,

“Wait for me, My Angel, I wanna come too," he called out weakly, his frail arms still stretched out. His Angel gave him a weak smile and shook her head before disappearing down the light.

“Nooooooo" Jason shrieked and began sobbing in his state, his eyes once again opening slightly to see the strange man hovering over him.

The man tipped his head forward, and held a bowl to his lips,

“Drink this. We don't have much time" Jason lifted his eyes to look at him, his lips pressed together firmly, and the man sighed, using his free hand to run it through his hair,

“Boy, you better drink. Hurry!” the man urged.

Grimacing, Jason shuddered and drank the concoction,

“That's good, that should help us till we get to the city. How do you feel?" the strange man asked, focusing his gaze on Jason, and Jason smiled.

For the first time in a long time, he felt better; the pains from the burns all didn't hurt as much, and he nodded gratefully at the man, but before he could open his mouth to respond, the door barged open from the outside and his eyes lit up; His Angel was here.

Just as his eyes turned to the door to welcome her, he was taken aback and his eyes bulged out of their sockets, his pale body going paler,

“Well, well, well. Looky here my guys. What do we have here?”

A man dressed in grey with a bandana over his head smirked, rubbing his palms together as he looked between Jason and the strange man. Jason gulped as he watched the man approach, his eyes widening the more,

The man had come with an army of men, they were over fifty, and they were all harmed. As the reality of their situation dawned on him, Jason began to shiver. He cast a glance at the strange man and was a little surprised to see the man look indifferent, raising his brow at the approaching men.

“If I were you, I'd think about taking a step further”, the strange man warned with a blank look on his face, and the grey-clothed man, alongside his companions, burst into loud laughs.

"Look around you, my man. You're clearly outnumbered, and we will finish you off in less than a minute. You wouldn't like to put that theory to the test now, would you?” The man asked, stretching both arms wide as he looked at the old man straight in the eyes,

In return, the old man scoffed and shook his head. He suddenly pulled himself to his full height, his eyes never leaving that of the intimidating man or his other men,

“You see, I'm not so fond of repeating myself, I hate that. But for the sake of the lad, I'll do just that. I ask you to leave this place intact, once and for all”

Once again, all of the men burst into loud laughter, pointing at the strange man, and exchanging incredulous looks amongst themselves. Their leader cleared his throat and spoke in a loud and clear voice,

“For one who's outnumbered, you seem too confident. We have no business with you, as it's the child we want, but since you've decided to meddle in business that doesn't concern you, I'll show you what it means to mind one's business”

His eyes not leaving the strange man, he raised his palm and then waved his open palm forward. Immediately about twenty men rushed forward to attack,

The strange man stood with a smirk and watched as they approached; just as the first three approached with a rush, he sent them flying, and they landed hard on the floor, the sound of bones cracking ringing clear.

The rest were slightly taken aback and so filled with rage and revenge that they attacked at once; the old man wasted no time in his counterattack; brandishing his arms as weapons, he kicked at different shins, incapacitating a number of them as they fell to the ground.

In no time, the first set was writhing on the ground. The remaining ones didn't wait for a command, as they all rushed at him.

Cries and howls filled the air, but they weren't from the strange man who stood without a scratch while pale and writhing bodies surrounded his feet.

The leader looked down at the bodies of his lifeless and writhing men, and slowly lifted his head to gape at the strange man, his body turning ashen. It was evident that he stood no chance with the man, his eyes travelled to the boy he had come for and he clenched his fist before he waved his fist at the older man,

“I'll be back! This isn't over!! You're going to hear from us!" he threatened and fled out of the room in haste, leaving his men behind.

With a chuckle, the strange man called out to him,

“Hey, I think you're forgetting something”, but the man had already fled. The strange man expelled a breath and turned to Jason; before he began gathering his belongings, Jason focused his gaze on him, blinking rapidly while he watched. He was amazed by the man but was too stunned and numb to speak.

The strange man packed up his things and rushed over to Jason's bedside,

“We need to leave! Now!" he thundered as he wrapped his arms around Jason to lift him. Dazed, Jason wobbled to his feet as the man assisted him through the door.

Jason took a last look at the place that had been his home, the place where he had met his Angel and tears seeped out his eyes as he realized he wouldn't be seeing her again,

With Jason huddled by the man's side, they walked out the door, and as they passed the threshold, there was a loud explosion behind.
