Chapter 17

Billion's heart raced as Mr Amit's question hung in the air, the words echoing in his mind like an alarm bell.

He felt a chill run down his spine, his senses sharpening as he searched for any signs that his cover might have been compromised. His palms grew slightly clammy, but he fought to maintain a neutral expression, hiding the turmoil within.

Billion inquired with a stutter, "Uh, pardon me?"

Despite the fact that the office was well air-conditioned, a subtle bead of sweat trickled down the side of his temple, a physical manifestation of the tension that gripped him.

Billion's mind raced, cycling through potential responses and excuses. Even though he was scared, he used the experience he had learnt while living with the Brown's, he made sure his voice sounded calm and steady.

"I'm not really sure I understand your question, Sir" he replied, his tone carefully measured.

He stared at Mr Amit, both trying to outsmart each other silently. Billion's fingers moved slightly at his side
