Chapter 130

“Who are you?” The boy asked, but Kohler couldn't reply, her feet gave out from under her, and the ground came up to welcome her.

_*If he is good, he will save me, and if he doesn’t, well, I won’t die all alone.*_ Kohler thought to herself.

Maybe it was the coldness of the ground that kept her awake, but she felt it when he put his arms around her, lifting her with both hands, with surprising strength.

_*Finally, I’m safe.*_ she said in her mind, feeling relieved.

“What if she is a ghost?” The little girl asked.

“She's breathing, Sally. She's also solid.” He replied as he dropped her briefly, and then raised her onto his back. He was warm, so warm that Kohler felt she could cry any second from then.

Kohler dug her face into his hair, enjoying the warmth, and was half awake, half asleep throughout the whole journey to wherever they lived. She simply hoped it wouldn't be another dangerous place.

Kohler awoke to the sound of sheep bleating, kids giggling, and something nice cooking.
