“What? What do you mean by we are in a danger hut?” Lauren asked, beginning to fear that they had just gotten from frying pan to fire.

This was beginning to seem more like a dangerous journey and while that pissed her off, she knew she needed to go with whatever they asked me to do.

“This is a hut where crazy crocodiles stay,” Nala responded in a low tone.

“Crazy? Why are they called crazy?”

“They sleep deeply, but the moment you wake them up with noise, they would track and hunt you until you're out of the forest. And that can make it difficult for us to focus on our destination here, and the little things we are to take note of. So, don't make noise.” She explained, and Lauren felt a cold chill in her spine.

She wondered what she had gotten herself into.

Lauren nodded her head and pursed her lips as tight as she could. There was no way she would want a bask of crocodiles after her. Not when she couldn't see with the blindfold on, which would also be a heavy burden on Nala.

Lauren’s eyelids fluttered open behind the blindfold as she gained her consciousness back. It felt as if she had been out for long, but there was no way she could find out."Oh, Lauren. You must be crazy for keeping up the blindfold stuff.” She said to herself, feeling so horrible. She guessed the old man must be tricky. Since he stays in a place like this he is someone they ought to be wary of.It meant he could have sent Nala out to get him an apple because he wanted to capture her. She felt a little doom, somewhere in her, because if he was a trickster, then she could be really in deep trouble.“By the way, where am I?” She asked herself. Right there, she realized that there was too much heat where she was, and when she tried to sit up, her head hit something wooden.Lauren then became alert and used her hands to feel her surroundings. No matter how far her hands wanted to reach, there was always a wooden covering, restricting them like she was placed in a box.Hold on. Could it b

“What's going on, Nala?” Lauren asked, in a low tone, and fear.“Whatever she says to you or makes you feel, do not believe her, neither should you put off the blindfold. Do not let her make you feel fear or it'll get real.” Nala said in a hurry, and then she heard a snap of a finger.Lauren covered her ears with her hands as it was piercingly loud. And out of the blue, she felt alone. She could no longer feel Nala’s presence. She was left alone, and the air was chilly. Also, it felt as if she was on a vast land that was dark but was illuminated by the moonlight. Then she heard a light, but echoing cackle“Where am I? Where's Nala?” Lauren asked, with a shaky voice.“Do you need to know when you can't see?” She cackled again. “Anyways, prepare to bade goodbye to the earth, because you will not live to see your loved ones and friends when my pet is done with you.” She threatened, in a way that sent fear down Lauren’s spine. Her heart skipped a beat in anxiousness.“Was she planning to

With her heart in her chest, she screamed. She was supposed to brace for impact, but her hands were outstretched, even though she knew they would break if they hit the ground first. Fortunately for her, she fell against someone, and they both fell to the ground, rolling fast down a hill. She could not even raise her hands or try to take off the blindfold. They hit large rocks, branches, sharp twigs, and thorns as they rolled mercilessly down the hill. Lauren only hoped that she wasn't with anything scary.Eventually, they rolled into water, and she opened her mouth, only for water to gush in, and choke her. She raised her head, and gasped for breath, taking off the blindfold hastily.Nala emerged from the water, and Lauren screamed.“It's me!” She said hastily, and Lauren took in deep breaths. “You scared me.” She replied, feeling her heart, still racing as fast as a racing horse.“I lost you. Are you hurt?” She asked, looking at Lauren, and Lauren looked at herself. There were scra

On Lauren’s side, she had also flashbacked to that time when she had just met Quincy’s godmother for the first time. For some reason, she badly wanted to be accepted by his godmother. She seemed like a really friendly, and fun person to be with; she didn't want to get on her bad side and be disliked by her. Also, since she wanted Quincy to herself, she had to at least, be on the good side of his godmother.Lauren got to her feet, immediately acknowledged her, and was surprised to find her legs shaking. Not even her fingers were spared from the tremble. They tightened on her dress. She was such a beautiful, and graceful woman. When she had walked in, her demeanor had come as relaxing, reassuring, and beautiful. “Welcome, ma'am.” She greeted them with dry lips. “I'm Lauren.” She said, not knowing what else to say. “Are you from this city?” She asked, with inquisitive eyes. “Yes,” Quincy replied before Lauren could get a word out, and it made a little relief trickle down her chest.

Lauren could not bring a word out of her mouth, but she was very nervous, not knowing what Quincy’s mother wanted from her.“Did she perhaps have a hunch that there could have been a lie in what Quincy said, about me? What exactly did she want?” Lauren thought to herself, fidgeting from inside.“I'll send for you shortly.” Quincy’s mother replied, and Lauren gave a smile. “I'll be expecting you, ma'am.” She replied, and Quincy’s mother nodded.“Tonight is going to be great. I can already feel it. The event celebration is in the air.” Gloria sang as they went up the stairs.“How big is it?” Lauren asked, out of curiosity.“Very big. The palace will be filled up. There will be lots of people coming in. The important people will fill the building, and the less privileged will be entertained outside. They will have a buffet, music, entertainment, and a fair share of everything going on inside. It's just that only trusted people are allowed inside. Lady Rose makes it so.” Gloria replied,

“Sounds? What kind of sounds?” Quincy asked, and her eyes seemed to fix into blank space, trying to explain. “Scraping sounds. Sometimes it feels like it's underneath my floor. Like there's a room underneath, and someone is just running something long and sharp over the ceiling which is the floor of my room. Also, I realized some things are not always the way I left them. Today, a knife was missing from the cabinet, and I was so scared that I could not even cook in the kitchen. When I went back this evening, the knife was on the countertop, and I never placed it there. There's also the case of the lights. I turn all the lights in the house off before going to sleep, but when I wake in the middle of the night, some of the lights are on, or is that you?”Quincy looked around, “I don't roam around the house at night, and when I do, I rarely turn the lights on. I know my way around the house fairly well.”Her voice shook, “Then who…? Could there be someone in the house like I think? Don'

Silence greeted them. Quincy stared down into the abyss before them, squinting his eyes, prepared to see Elise emerge before them with a gun that wouldn't fail her that time. Slowly, he took a step, and the staircase creaked loudly beneath him. It would give anyone time to prepare a gun. Large beams of light ripped through the thick darkness as the men turned on the torches in their hands. Another step— an even louder creak. Quincy descended lower and lower, and a damp and earthy smell filled his nostrils. The walls were peeling, and the floor was unswept. Lots of stuff he had dumped in the basement were coated with dust, and tangled with webs that were as thick as the dust themselves. Tables, chairs, barrels, an old guitar that lay unused, and more cobwebs hanging down the ceiling. Bertha sneezed, and Quincy turned. “I'm allergic to dust.” She said, and sneezed again, her eyes watering. “I think you should leave then,” Quincy suggested, and taking one large sweep of the bas

The shock was too much for him, especially the fact that he was about to be chained alive. He tried to release himself from the ropes they had used to tie him up, but while doing that, he mistakenly hit his head on a metal, right behind him. As his head hit the metal, he passed out, and Bertha became angry.“How could he pass out just like that!” She raised her voice, finding it annoying. She had been waiting for this moment, and the fact that he had just paused the moment for her, was what got on her nerves. “Don’t worry, mother. When he wakes, we’ll finish off the job. There’s no way he can escape this.” Elise assured her, and Bertha calmed down, feeling much better. All she wanted to do was to avenge her son, then only could she believe that he rested in peace and that she had acted like a true mother.“Let’s go have something to eat, mother. I’m famished.” Elise uttered, and they both left.“Alright, daughter.”But as they wanted to step out, the police force dashed in and point

Her mind, still foggy with sleep, searched for the familiar warmth of Quincy beside her, but the space in the bed was cold and empty. Confused, she opened her eyes, blinking away the haze of dreams. As her gaze adjusted, something unexpected caught her attention—rose petals, scattered across the bed in delicate patterns of red. Her heart skipped a beat. She sat up, her fingers brushing over the soft petals, a surprised smile forming on her lips. The roses didn’t just cover the bed; they formed a trail on the floor, leading out of the bedroom like a path designed to guide her somewhere.Curiosity piqued, Kohler swung her legs off the bed and stood, her bare feet padding softly across the floor. The music played softly in the background, its romantic melody weaving into the air like a whisper meant just for her. Her heartbeat quickened, and she followed the trail of rose peta

You’re supposed to be with me!”Damien clenched his jaw, frustration rising. “You need to leave. Now.”Talia took a step closer, her gaze flickering between Damien and Lauren. “You think she’s better than me?” she spat. “You think she’ll stick by you the way I did? She’ll break your heart.”Lauren stood up, her eyes steady and calm. “Talia, this is between Damien and me. I understand that you’re upset, but barging in like this won’t change anything.”Talia’s face twisted in anger. “You think you’re so special? You’re nothing, Lauren. Nothing compared to what Damien and I had.”Damien moved clo

Chapter 164Darius studied Kohler for a moment, his expression hard to read. The tension between them hung in the air like a thick fog, both of them playing a delicate game of manipulation and trust. "I'll be the judge of that," he replied, his voice calm but sharp, like the edge of a blade.Kohler chuckled lightly, masking the slight tremor that threatened to creep into her voice. "Fair enough," she said. "But you know I wouldn't be here if I didn't have what it takes."Darius took a step closer, his gaze narrowing. "We'll see." He glanced over at Quincy, who remained motionless in the backseat, supposedly unconscious. "You’ve done well to bring him here. Now, let’s see if you can handle what comes next."Kohler swallowed hard but nodded, reminding herself to keep calm. Quincy had drilled into her the importance of staying in control. "Of course," she said, standing tall.Darius gestured to one of the men, and he stepped forward with a syringe filled with a clear liquid. "This," Dari

Finally! Darius was ready to meet with Kohler as he had trusted her well enough. He had sent poison to her and told her to induce it in Quincy’s drink, and that’s only when he could trust her.“Is everything set?” Quincy asked Kohler.“Yes. I’m all set.” She responded. “Wow. The color looks just perfect on your body. He is going to fall for this.” Kohler chuckled.“I know, right? When he gets caught, he would never put his loyalty to a bad man.” Quincy said with a smirk. “Alright, it’s time to go,” Quincy said, then they left the house, and Quincy was laid in the backseat of his car.Kohler then got into the driver’s seat and drove off to the location to which she was asked to come over. The ride was a little long, and the only reason he would do that was because the place would be a secluded area. That was the best kind of place for them to carry out operations like that.“Just ensure you do not act tense. You have to be as fluid as possible.” Quincy lectured her, and she nodded. “A

A few days passed, and a day came when Damien’s grandfather called, and said he wanted to see both him and Lauren. “What do you think he might want to say?” Lauren asked him, out of curiosity. “Well, I don’t know. But I’m hoping it’s good news.” Damien said as he drove. At least, for the past few days that had passed, they had learned to tolerate each other again, so Liam didn’t need to be interrupting at every interval. Lauren felt herself tense as she didn’t know what the outcome could be. For days now, she had not seen Quincy, and then he had also made up with her by calling her and explaining the situation to her. She was glad that he at least explained to her, but she just couldn’t help but feel that he still had at least, an atom of love for Kohler, and that hurt her deeply each time she thought about it. Soon, they got to his family house, and on getting there, it was only the grandfather who was present at the dining table. But there was no food served there. “Welcome,

Minutes before Liam answered the call, Damien was pacing around with his phone and leaned close to her ear, listening to the now annoying dial tone.“What the hell!” He said sharply under his breath as he kept on waiting. It was becoming frustrating that Liam hadn't answered his call ever since he left earlier with Lauren. The fact that he hadn't answered his call only made him a little worried because his phone was right in the car with him. He was hoping they hadn’t gotten into an accident or something. But then, even though they didn’t get into an accident, another reason he might not answer his call could be that his phone was on silent, but he wasn’t certain if it was on silent. But at least, he ought to know of their current whereabouts and if she was fine, but curiosity was beginning to eat her out.“If I still can't get through to them after calling and calling, I might have to get to the hotel to find out myself; hopefully Lauren would have checked in safely.” He said to him

“Pfft!” Lauren scoffed and rolled her eyes at the answer he gave her. There was no way on earth that his answer was believable.Does Talia mean nothing to him? Lies. She said in her mind.“Oh, come on. Do we need to introduce lies to this newly found relationship? A friend of mine who looked into the case quickly told me that Talia is a crazy woman.” Lauren uttered, peering into Damien’s eyes as she waited for a response from him regarding that. But suddenly, his calm expression turned into a displeased one. His brows curved downward, and he maintained a cold look.“You know what? I’m not in any way comfortable with you keeping people like that as friends, talk more of someone that close to you since she doesn’t know how to mind her business.”“And how should that be something for me to consider? Remember, our contract doesn’t include you getting to choose my friends.” Lauren spoke also raising her brows. It was quite annoying to her that he had to attack her friend just to play his

He never thought that his mother would go to the extent that she didn't want him to get married to anyone but Talia. “Lauren!” Damien called out as he ran after her.She stomped her feet while walking towards the gate, and wasn’t willing to answer him. “Lauren!” He called out to her again as she passed by the gates, and then she stood close to the car and turned abruptly to him.“What is it!” Lauren snapped at him. “You brought me here just so your mother could speak demeaning words to me?” she questioned, feeling so much hurt in her.She hadn't recovered from the one Quincy gave her, so getting one from his mother wasn't what she signed up for.Suddenly, she noticed a lady walking towards them, and while she smiled at Damien, she gave her a sneer. The lady walked up to Damien and placed her hand on his chest as she trailed her finger on it. “Baby, I’m so happy I found you here.” She spoke cutely. I understand you, and… I think I can also help you.” Damien said to her.As Damien let out those words, she turned to look at him with curiosity.“You can help me? How?” She asked and sniffled.“I'll just help you get your man. We'll find ways to do that, but you must help me in return. More like we should have a bargain.” Damien told her.“Okay, what's that?” “I want you to act like you're my fiancee and we'd like to get married. Just act that way before my mom and grandfather, then we're good to go.” Damien asked of her. That was a little difficult to do because claiming such could end up destroying her marital life one day, and she didn't want to take chances like that.“If you're scared about this, I'm assuming, you are one hundred percent safe,” Damien said,
