Chapter 3 Infuriated
The variety of expressions on Florence's face was truly amazing.

That useless piece of garbage had given them a slew of antiques as gifts! For the past three years, no one in the family had realized their value, so her husband, Gilbert, had been smoking an antique pie and handling historical items worth 1.5 million dollars. Florence was on the verge of going insane!

"Ashton is a good-for-nothing loser, so where did he get all these antiques? Also, don't you find it strange? He didn't mention the antiques at all or take them with him after the divorce. He must have stolen them from somewhere. He didn't have the guts to take it because it's all stolen!" Florence said.

"Should we call the police, then?" The color drained from Gilbert's face when he heard that they were stolen. He had been handling them for a long time, so would he be implicated as well?

"Are you stupid? If we call the police, they will take everything away. In any case, it's Ashton who stole the things. It has nothing to do with us." A wicked grin appeared on Florence's face. "Besides, if something were to happen, we'll just insist that we had no idea about it!"

"You're right! We're victims. Ashton was the one who did it, so he should take the blame if anything happened. If nothing happens, we'll keep these antiques safe in our home," the quick-thinking Howard said.

"My precious son is so smart." Florence was beaming.

"Congratulations, Mister and Missus Latham. What a pleasant surprise," Tyson said, smiling.

Indeed, it was a pleasant surprise. Who would have expected a worthless moocher like him would leave such substantial wealth behind after he left? That showed that the Latham family was fated to become rich, and nobody could stop them.

"Hold on!" The smile on Florence's face suddenly vanished. She scratched her head as if she had thought of something. "After he signed the divorce papers, he took a pendant from Alora, didn't he?"

"It seems like it," Tyson said, nodding after giving it a thought.

He even said the pendant served as a sign that the wearer was his wife or something. How shameless of him to say that.

"He didn't take any of these antiques, and he didn't even bat an eye at the 600,000 dollars, but he took that pendant?" Florence's eyes widened. "Could that pendant be some treasure?"

Gilbert, Howard, and Tyson were stunned.

She had a point. He did not take anything but that pendant. In other words, the pendant could be more valuable than everything else. Only then would all of that make sense.

"What a shameless man!" Florence suddenly raised her voice, frightening everyone in the living room.

"What's the matter, Florence? Why are you so angry?"

"Who made you angry? Howard, did you piss your mom off again?"

"You're such a troublemaker. You're all grown up, yet you don't get a job, making your mother worry sick about you every day. Why can't you be like your sister?"

Howard was speechless because his mother's reaction had nothing to do with him.

"Ashton, you shameless swine," Florence cursed. "You're divorced from my daughter, yet you stole a treasure from my family. I'll let you have a taste of my wrath!"

In her eyes, that pendant was already the Latham family's heirloom. It was a treasure more valuable than the antiques, so it should be their family heirloom.

"That can't be true, can it? He had been living off our family and spending Alora's hard-earned money. How could he have the nerve to do that?"

"You can never truly know someone's true colors by their appearance. There are way too many people with wicked intentions nowadays."

"You're right. I thought Ashton was bad news as soon as I saw him. The more honest he seems, the more wicked ideas he has."

All the family members swarmed over and started to go on and on.

Florence was panting hard, getting more annoyed as she thought about it.

"No, I have to go to him. How dare he take what belongs to the Latham family. I won't let him off the hook!" Florence left in anger.

"Mom, I'm coming with you. It's too dangerous for you to go alone." Howard's eyes lit up as he thought of an idea.

Both of them then left their home in a rage.

In the meantime, Ashton had already returned to the apartment at Serene Heights. When Ashton entered the room haunted by memories of them as a couple, he felt a flood of emotions wash over him.

They bought the apartment when they just got married. After Alora founded her own company and made money, they bought a mansion, and the entire family moved in. The apartment was then abandoned.

That was also when both of them started to drift apart. Perhaps it was all written in the stars that their relationship would end.

After some time, there was a sudden and urgent knock on the door when Ashton was packing his things.

"That's fast."

As expected of the top shipping company, the Royal Sealift Group was very efficient.

As soon as Ashton got to the door, he saw two people standing there and four eyes staring at him.

"Why are you here? I didn't take a single penny from you or touch anything of your family. After I signed the divorce papers, I have nothing to do with the Latham family anymore," Ashton said. "You don't have to worry about this apartment either. I'll leave after I'm done packing."

Ashton avoided interacting with them because he knew they were difficult to deal with.

"Hmph!" Florence pushed him away with contempt, then entered the apartment and sat on the couch. "Of course, you will want to leave, and you did not take anything. Why would you be interested in all those cheap things, Ashton?"

'Huh?' Ashton was bewildered. He did not understand what she meant.

He had already done everything he could, whether getting married or divorced. Why did Florence seem to think he got a good deal out of it?

Howard pushed his way through the door and looked at Ashton. "I was not expecting this, Ashton. You kept it well hidden, haven't you? You have always kept a low profile, but you did not mess around when it came to property division."

"I have no idea what you guys are talking about. If you have something to say, tell it to me straight. I don't have time to solve your riddles."

Florence snickered. "Let's be straightforward then. I'm done wasting my time talking to you anyway." She crossed her legs and said, "You've taken a pendant from my daughter after you signed the divorce papers, right?"

"Pendant?" Ashton was taken aback. "Yes, what about it?"

It was his pendant, so why could he not take it?

"Ever since my daughter became the president of her company, every single penny you've spent was from the company. You're divorced from my daughter now, yet you still want to steal my daughter's thing? How have I never realized you're such a shameless person?" Florence sneered before she continued. "I'll be frank with you. You can walk away, but the pendant stays. You'll leave without getting anything in the divorce, or I'll make you pay!"

When Ashton heard such blatantly unreasonable words, he got so pissed off that he smiled. "First of all, after Alora built the company, I've been working as a consultant without getting any paychecks. Secondly, the pendant is mine, so why can't I take it? Lastly, let's talk about the divorce. I didn't do anything wrong, so why should I get nothing in the divorce?"

"You—" Florence was so angry that her veins were popping. Since Ashton wanted nothing but the pendant, she was sure it was precious!

Ashton said coldly, without even giving her a chance to talk, "When I was married to Alora, I respected you because you're her mother, so I tolerated your unreasonable behavior. Who do you think you are to be demanding respect now just because you're older?"

"You—" Florence's face was flushed in anger, and she was almost at a loss for words.

"Ashton, you must fucking have a death wish! I'll kill you if you talk to my mother like that again!" Howard smacked the table and stood up, pointing at Ashton aggressively when he was feeling timid.

"I'd like to see you try. I can't promise you'll be able to walk out of the apartment unscathed after you make your move." Ashton's gaze was icy.

Florence was so mad that she was huffing and puffing. She put her hands on her waist, then cursed at Ashton like a shrew. "You're a broke ass son of a bitch who was living off my daughter. What right do you have to own such a valuable item? Only my daughter is worthy of having that pendant. If you don't wish to die, hurry up and hand it over! "

"Mom, you don't need to ask him for it." Howard saw a green pendant lying casually on the table in the living room. He quickly rushed over, then sneered all of a sudden. "This idiot left such a precious treasure here. I got it without even using any effort at all."

"Great job!" Florence was staring at the pendant so hard that green rays were reflected in her eyes.

Ashton reached out his hand. "The pendant. Hand it over."

Howard snorted when he heard that, clenching the pendant tightly. "What will you do if I don't hand it over? Bite me? It's already in my hand, yet you still want it back. Dream on!"

"I'm going to say it one more time. Hand the pendant over!" Ashton shouted.

Howard was furious. He was there to assist her mother, and he had the Latham family and his sister backing him up, so why should he be afraid? "Ashton, you son of a bitch, how dare you threaten me?"

Ashton walked up to him, staring at him with a terrifying gaze. Then, he raised his hand to grab Howard's wrist.

"I won't give it to you. Do you think I'm afraid of you?" Feeling exasperated, Howard immediately dropped the pendant to the floor, then stomped on it aggressively!
