Gerard and Sage ate food together at a table, and many guests came to greet them. But none of them took much of their time. They only gave the greetings and left within a few seconds.

Diane didn’t want to miss this opportunity, so she grabbed Stephen’s arm. “Let’s go and greet the governor.”

“Are you crazy? That’s the governor of the state,” Stephen said. “He’s not someone a gangster like me should approach. Even my dad won’t feel easy around someone like that.”

“He may be a governor, but aren’t you richer than him?” Diane said. “Money is what matters the most in this world. So, I’m sure he’ll talk with us respectfully once he knows who you are.”

Stephen’s ego swelled a little, thanks to her words. And he gained the confidence to go and talk to the governor.

“If we want to make an impression that will last in his mind, we can’t just go empty-handed like others,” Diane said. “Do you have anything of value?”

“Why don’t we just steal one of the gifts from others? That brat didn’t even ope

“Nighthawk?” Diane didn’t recognize that name. “What sort of family name is that? It sounds like a bird's name, doesn’t it? So stupid.”Gerard spared her a cold glance, making her shut her mouth.Diane looked at Stephen. “Why do you look like you stepped on poop?”However, Stephen was in his own world and did not hear what Diane was even saying. His mind was focused on something else right now. (Nighthawk? I feel like I heard that name before. Or is it just my imagination?)“Denver what?” Denver looked a bit confused himself. He felt like he heard the name before, and it surprised him for a second, but he didn’t remember anything in particular. “Do you know me?”“Mm?” Gerard’s expression changed.“You must have mistaken him for someone else, Governor,” Diane stepped in. “He’s just a construction worker with no background.”“Construction worker?” Gerard looked surprised now. (Is he on a mission now?) “Maybe, I really am mistaken.”Denver wanted to talk with the governor some more, but

Denver did not expect to be hugged by her, but his body definitely reacted wildly. He forcibly pushed her away, and she couldn’t do anything against him.Diane fell back on the floor and cried, “Aw!” she bore the pain and said, “How could you do this to the woman who loved you and is about to give birth to your child?”Denver took his mobile out. “I’m calling the cops,” even though he said that, he started recording with the mobile, but he didn’t make it obvious.“Huh, sure. Go ahead and call them. They will say it’s a family matter and will tell us to deal with it ourselves,” Diane shamelessly said.“We are not family. Not anymore,” Denver retorted and walked out of the hall.Diane followed him. “No matter what you say, you are the father of my child. That won’t change.”Denver stopped and raised his hand, wanting to slap her.Diane didn’t back away. “C’mon, hit me. Do this and become a villain to the public. It will make things easy for me when the police do come here.”“Tsk, I ne

The word ‘Bird Brain’ was clearly an insult directed toward him. Was it written by Diane or by Stephen?Either way, it didn’t matter.“You two keep doing these things, and I’ll end up putting my conscience aside one day,” Denver angrily got out of the car.Denver wanted to go home quickly, but he didn’t know how.Just then, a guy and his lover came to their car.“Hello, can I buy your car?” Denver asked.“Pfft,” the girl laughed. “Dude, did you drink too much? This is a Mercedes Coupe Light Sport worth over 70K. You think you can afford this car?” She was purposely rude because Denver wasn’t even wearing a suit.“70K.” Denver took his mobile out. “Tell me your mobile number. I’ll send the money to your account right now.”“Hahaha, now you’re taking too far, but it’s fine, I’ll play with you,” she gave her mobile number.“Is it fine for you if I send the money to her bank account?” Denver asked the guy because he was the owner of the car.“It’s fine. I trust her,” the boyfriend said.“I

Denver arrived at Catherine’s flat but stopped outside and slowed his heartbeat down.He wanted to bring a lot of food for her, but because of Diane bothering him, he didn’t pack as many items as he wanted.Nevertheless, he hoped that Catherine would eat this food. At least some of it.Denver knocked on the door twice.“The door isn’t locked,” Catherine’s voice came from the inside.Denver pushed the door open.Catherine was sitting on the couch, with an iron rod in her hand. Her eyes were clearly cooking with anger.Denver put the food package and the car keys on the table. “W-What’s that thing for?”“Depending on your reasoning for holding that woman’s hand… I’m going to decide whether I should use this iron rod or not,” Catherine said.Denver touched the back of his head, remembering the moment her sister hit him with a table lamp. He might have survived a hit from a table lamp, but he might die from getting hit by an iron rod. The sisters really seemed alike in this regard.Denver

After the party, Gerard didn’t leave but instead went to the Clarke mansion.Sage welcomed him with open arms because he wanted to share alcohol with his old friend. He couldn’t drink during the party as it was his grandson’s birthday party, and he felt that drinking wouldn’t be appropriate there even though he arranged wine for the guests. Both of them were drinking in the living room on the first floor, with a vintage song playing in the background.Gerard put the gift box Diane gave him next to him.“Are you not going to open it?” Sage asked. “Let me see what gift they gave you.”“Haha, I’m curious, too, but let’s talk about something else first,” Gerard said. “Do you know Denver?”“The big guy you met at the party?” Sage nodded. “Yeah, he worked in my company for three years.”“Three years?” Gerard was surprised. (Is he doing a big mission that takes him a really long time? Still, three years is a bit too much. No wonder I haven’t heard of him all this while.) He couldn’t help but

Catherine was not able to eat all the food Denver brought. So, she called Denver into the bedroom. They ate together, and Denver was very happy, not that he got to eat but that Catherine seemed to have cooled down.“How did the interviews go?” he asked.“Ugh,” Catherine stuffed more food in her mouth. “Don’t even ask me about it. I thought I did well in every interview, but I didn’t get selected in any of those interviews! How’s that possible?”“Maybe, it’s because there’s a gap between your graduation and now?” Denver said.“It’s not like I applied for a senior level post,” Catherine retorted. “I’m trying for beginner level jobs, but the interviewers all act like they want study-smart people only. My grades are average, I admit, but I have a practical experience of running Cat Pools for over two years now. I thought I had an edge compared to others who are just coming out of their colleges, but what the hell? I was completely wrong. The companies are expecting so much from students fo

The next morning.Catherine woke up and came out of her room, only to see Denver sleeping on the couch. He looked so defenseless in the way, he sat with one leg on down and one leg above the couch.Catherine tried to put both the legs in a proper position. It wasn’t that difficult for her because she was physically quite capable. So she pulled it off without even waking him up. She didn’t stop there and went on to plant a kiss on his nose and then giggled for some reason. She hurriedly went into the bedroom and put lipstick on before coming out of the room quietly and pecking Denver’s cheek very carefully so that he wouldn’t open his eyes. And he didn’t.Afterward, she went into the kitchen and prepared breakfast. “I only have one interview today. Should I go or not?” She was feeling a bit tired and lazy because she had roamed a lot the previous day. Some time later.Denver woke up to a pleasant smell. He walked into the kitchen and saw a bread pudding.“Tada! A salted caramel bread pu

Denver’s friend, Jeremy, came to Pinkness headquarters, wearing a decent suit he bought with the money Denver had given him.Though Jeremy wanted to bring his daughter Cindy, he couldn’t do it since this was his first day, and he was still finding it a bit hard to believe all this was happening. When he reached the entrance, Joseph, the entrance guard smiled, gesturing to him to enter.“Do you know Denver?” Jeremy hesitantly asked.Joseph was startled and quickly got up. “A-Are you perhaps Mr. Jeremy?”“Yeah,” Jeremy nodded.Joseph quickly saluted. “Good morning, sir!”Joseph was not just surprised but also a bit overwhelmed by it. The guards’ actions did not go unnoticed. The workers also came out and greeted Jeremy inside. He totally did not expect such a reception. He received bouquets from all the workers and the manager.Robert, the former CEO of the company, personally received Jeremy and took him upstairs and made him feel comfortable. “Sir Denver told me to help you with gettin

It tried to land on Denver’s cheek, but the hot vapors didn’t let it touch Denver. As it flew away, its body suddenly blasted to bits.“The ability to affect the blood all around me. This is the art that needs more honing,” Denver thought. “With this ability, I can take on many enemies at a time. But…” He looked at his hand. “Will I be able to bear with all the blood that’s going to be spilled?”Blood Arts was actually part of the eight Hawker Arts, but thanks to Denver’s special blood lightning ability, he was able to take the Blood Arts to another level, making it even more deadly.“The reason I probably didn’t bother about mastering all the eight martial arts of Hawkers was because I focused more on Blood Arts,” Denver clenched his fists. “It can kill, but I wanted it to heal as well, making this not just a

She believed that was enough.Denver hissed a little and touched his knee as he sat down.“Is something wrong with your leg?” Catherine asked him.“My right knee hurts a little. That’s all,” Denver said, trying not to appear frustrated.“Let me check,” Catherine insisted.“It’s okay,” he politely refused.Catherine still pulled his pant leg which exposed his swollen knee. “Hurts a little, you say?” she squeezed his knee with her fingers, and he hissed. “Yeah. Thought so. There are times when you should act tough, and the

The clouds discharged sparks of lightning not toward the ground but onto each other, thereby lighting up the entire sky in Hawk Park.It was daytime, but it looked brighter than day itself as golden white lightning made the clouds and the sky look both beautiful and terrifying at the same time.Almost everybody in Hawk Park felt it. Some ran out of their homes to see this rare phenomenon where not a single drop of rain fell but lightning bolts crisscrossed heaven..Novick, who was playing with a tiny chameleon in his room, looked out through the window. “The clash of kings…”At Golden Tower.Lily was watching the sky from the balcony. “This presence… It seems the one fighting Mickey inside the cube was Denver. He’s catching up to us fast. If he survives today, he will become a force to be reckoned with.”She made a phone call and said, “Serena, the cube is broken. Make sure you kill at least Green Fang or Denver’s girlfriend.”“I was thinking of sneaking in and killing Denver though,”

“How are you able to conjure the power of white blood cells outside your body?” Mickey asked. The white lightning streaks around Denver’s fists thickened. “Maybe they just want to prevent my heart from getting sad.”“Is that so?” Mickey squinted his eyes. (His blood is reacting to his thoughts as if it has some level of sentience. It’s interesting, but it feels annoying, thinking about it.)“Why? Are you jealous that you can’t do it?” Denver asked with a serious expression. He was just trying to understand what kind of a person Mickey was, even though it wouldn’t change much.“Why would I be jealous?” Mickey released golden light around his whole body, and it was so strong that the black floor under his feet was fading away as if it couldn’t withstand its nature. “You will experience the loss of losing your lover and your beloved Green Fang as well. On top of that, you will lose this fight against me. But don’t worry. I won’t kill you. I will keep you alive just enough to keep hanging

“The three minutes have already passed,” Catherine shouted at Black Dragon even though he ignored her words. That didn’t stop her.“No matter how powerful you are or how high of a rank you hold in Hawkers,” Catherine blurted, “you are only as good as your integrity. It seems like First Son Mickey and the guardian Black Dragon don’t have any integrity whatsoever.”By doing so, she caught Black Dragon’s attention.“Your rantings may sound good in audiobooks,” Black Dragon said, “but reality is far from different.”“So you’re admitting that you have no integrity then,” Catherine barked.“I never said that.”“But that’s what you meant. You are clearly not fit for the guardian post.”Black Dragon frowned. “You shouldn’t have said that.” He turned to face her. “Take those words back.”“Or what?” Catherine snorted. “You think I’m afraid of you? If you’re a real man, you would have stopped the fight after three minutes, but you are not, which is why you didn’t stick to your word.”“I’m sorry,

“If I win, you’ll need to spend time in my bedroom tonight!”Kuro’s big idea was to disrupt Denver’s concentration and also win the two girls at that.“Bitter Wind Blasts!”However, both Sheryl and Catherine reacted simultaneously as if they were ready for his attack.Sheryl was able to easily deflect his attack, whereas Catherine had to exert some of her energy to just block the attack which had so much energy put into it.“So this guy can heat up the wind from his punching the air?” Catherine frowned as she felt her hands burning as if they were put on a frying pan.“Heh,” Kuro smirked. “I’ve been practicing aura from a young age. You think your aura can match mine? I’m many stages above you, stupid girl!”“Is that so?” Catherine used her ability, and Kuro suddenly felt pressure above him, which forced him to slow down.“W-What’s this?” Kuro was startled. “Why do I feel like my body has grown five times heavier?”“That’s because of this stupid girl,” Catherine went for a swift punch

At Golden Tower.Serena rushed over to Lily’s room and said, “The devil’s cube has been cast on Mount First.”“Ho… what do they not want us to see?” Lily wondered.“Should I go and check?” Serena asked.“Don’t go by yourself. Send someone expendable,” Lily replied.“I’ll pick someone outside our kettle then,” Serena said and quickly left.Lily was drawing a paintbrush on the wall. The image looked like a forest with a single lily flower standing out more than the other flowers and beasts.“Only the guardians are given the devil’s cubes,” Lily thought. “Are Black Dragon and Mickey having serious duels? Why now of all times? No, it doesn’t make sense. They must be fighting someone else. But who would be stupid enough to intrude Mount First, a place that’s creepy to say the least. I wonder which fool dared to go there this time.”At the same time, elsewhere in Hawk Park.Philip and Sedrick were eating breakfast by the beach. Both of them could feel the presence of the devil’s cube.“Do yo

We’re still in our dimension, but as long as these black walls aren’t broken, everything we do here will not affect the outside world.”“So, there’s no reason for the brothers to hold back, huh…” Catherine was growing nervous.Even though she was the one who suggested the duel, she was still nervous because Mickey had this invincible aura around him.“What does this First Son actually do?” Catherine asked curiously.“From what I know, he owns many big betting companies. He also buys items for a cheaper price and sells them for a higher price,” Sheryl said.“So, he’s like a stock market trader and a fraudster?” Catherine snorted. “That’s no big deal. What was Denve

Mickey was heading back up the mountain, but then the moment his spiritual construct saw Denver, he stopped in his tracks.“What’s wrong, Lord?” Nox asked.Mickey’s blood started to stir, and all the plant life and rocks on Mount First began to tremble.Nox’s heart shook for a second as he was expecting it.Kuro, on the other hand, was over a hundred feet away, but the pressure made his knees lose strength. (What’s with this bloodlust? It’s on par with Shindo. No, maybe even more.)Black Dragon, however, continued drinking white rum rather casually as if he had an inkling of understanding about the ongoing situation.Even though Denver and others were underground, they could also feel the pressure. The earth above them got ripped off like a roof getting blown away against strong wind.“You two.
