chapter 11

“How dare you treat Uncle Ethan like that? After all that he has done for you, Bella, you had the guts to treat him like a piece of trash. Why do you enjoy playing with people's emotions?” Nadia fired back at Bella as Ethan tried pulling her out of the scene.

“Baby girl, you are still a kid. I'll urge you to keep your mouth shut and mind your business. This is about me and Ethan and none of your business."

All the crowds who were gathered at the event for Marco's birthday gave them their full attention, as they were all trying to get the full story behind Ethan and Bella's separation.

Sensing the tension building, Ethan attempted to diffuse the situation. Pulling gently at Nadia's arm, he encouraged her to leave the situation. "Nadia, let's keep this calm.

He glanced worriedly at the interested bystanders and murmured, "We can talk about this later.

But Nadia was not about to concede. "No, Ethan! It’s high time I taught Bella that she is not the only one who can run her mouth. I cannot watch Bella walk all over your emotions. This is not what you deserve."

Unaffected by Nadia's anger, Bella grinned. "Oh, Nadia, please. You are only partially aware of it. It's more complicated than you might imagine, and this is between Ethan and me. For the last time, I’ll warn you to stay out of this and focus on how to pass your grades. That’s what girls of your age are more focused on, in case you don’t know."

Now completely engrossed in the drama developing, the audience muttered and cast curious glances at one another. They couldn't wait to solve the enigma of Ethan and Bella's abrupt breakup.

Ethan watched the altercation from a distance, feeling both disappointed and saddened. He had no idea that he would ruin this celebration and make it a public event.

Bella appeared unaffected by the critical looks she was receiving because of the weight of the charges against her.

Marco, the birthday boy, attempted to deflect the conversation by lifting his glass in a toast just as the tension was at its highest point. In an effort to restore some sort of normalcy to the festivities, he declared, "Let's not let this ruin Marco's special day!"

The gathering paused, divided as much by the impending altercation as by the wish to keep the birthday celebrations going. They slowly turned back to Marco, but the tension remained, a permanent afterthought on what should have been a happy moment.

He gave a sharp glance at Bella, and from his eyes, you can tell that after his birthday celebration he’ll actually pour out a piece of his mind to her. She returned his smile by raising her glass cup and sending out an invisible kiss in his direction.

As the music kept playing out loud and buzzing with the noise of the excited people in the hall, Ethan was seen dragging Nadia by her hands outside.

“Can you please stop holding me like that? My skin is too fragile, and you might peel it off with the way you tighten your grip on me." Nadia cried out as she tried pulling off her hand from Ethan’s grip.

“Fine! I’ll let you go once we’ve gotten to a place that is convenient to have a conversation with you.” Ethan gave her a sharp response as he pulled her to the parking lot.

She forcefully pulled her hands off Ethan’s grip and stopped following his lead as she stood there, questioning him. "What's going on, Ethan? Why is Bella behaving in this manner? Nadia demanded, her voice full of frustration.

With a groan, Ethan combed through his hair. "Nadia, things are not simple. Your uncle is caught in the crossfire as Bella and I go through a difficult time. Before things grow worse, I have to take care of this."

“But, Uncle Ethan, I thought it was this same Bella that you do praise all the time that she is the only woman in your life. What exactly went wrong?”

“Nadia, I’ll advise you not to press further with your questions. Things happen, and we just have to adjust when things don’t go according to your plans.”

“Uncle Ethan, Do you still love Bella? Do you still want her to be your woman? From the look of things and what just happened back there, I can see that that woman blindfolded your eyes with dark love. She didn’t even love you at all. I don’t like her at all. Sometimes, I sit myself down and ask myself, What did you see in Bella that made you fall in love with her? She is so devilish and has the heart of a stone. I really can’t wait to see what her and Marco’s relationship will be like.” She spoke with anger in her voice.

“Enough! Nadia, I don’t want you to talk about Bella again. I just want you to live your life in peace and joy.”

“But, Uncle Ethan, you are a good person, and I want you to end up with someone that I’ll actually love and value just the way you value them. And not like some disguised Jezebel in human form.” She blatantly spoke to him.

He came closer to Nadia as he gave her a shoulder hug and grabbed her little soft chin as he spoke calmly to her as she looked straight into his eyeballs.

“Don’t worry,Uncle Ethan will end up marrying a beautiful young woman who has a big heart and a soft smile just like yours. The only thing Uncle needs right now is time. Will you be able to wait a little longer?”

She smiled back at him and said, “I’ll definitely wait as long as it makes you feel happy. I just want to see you happy all the time.”

They both hugged each other as they hopped in the car and drove away from the hall where the event took place before anyone could notice their absence.

When the clock reached midnight, the joyous occasion that had earlier been filled with singing and laughter abruptly came to an end. The DJ declared that Marco's birthday celebration had come to an end in a sombre tone. The music stopped, and the exuberant mood that had characterized the evening progressively gave way to a subdued expectation.

"Now, ladies and gentlemen, let's end the evening. Kindly return home, as the city's security services do not permit celebrations to continue until the early hours of the morning. The DJ said, "Thank you for helping us make Marco's birthday unforgettable. People started gathering their belongings as a result."

A sleek black Range Rover with tinted windows came up to the front of the hall as the crowd dispersed, each person heading to their own destination. Wordlessly, Bella and Marco, lost in their own reverie, stepped inside the opulent car. The driver, a shadowy figure, wound his way through the empty streets.

There was an underlying tension between Bella and Marco in the automobile. Their minds were racing with ideas they dared not say, and the air was heavy with unsaid words. The automobile drove through the streets as the city lights flickered outside the tinted windows, giving their faces a soft glow.

Bella sneaked a few glances at Marco. In the quiet moments between them, despite the silence, a strange feeling of unsaid words and unresolved problems developed. Marco also gazed off into the horizon, thinking back on the night's events.

Tension increased as the Range Rover descended into the posh suburb where Marco's mansion was located. The Range Rover rolled to a stop as the driver skillfully parked the car very well.

Immediately, Bella came down and headed upstairs to Marco’s room as she paced back and forth, wondering what Ethan came to do at Marco’s birthday celebration. Despite all the warnings she had given, he still had the guts to show up at Marco’s events.

“Is he planning anything to bring me down, or does he want to pay back his revenge based on the way I treated him?” She questioned herself inwardly.

Meanwhile, Marco went straight to his bar corner and took a shot of whiskey before heading upstairs to have a discussion with Bella.

Marco hurried upstairs, making his way to Bella's door and pushing it open. With a thump, the door struck the wall, startling Bella. The heavy atmosphere in the room heightened as their eyes met.

This was the first time Bella had seen Marco in such a state since they met. His eyes, usually warm, now held a mixture of frustration and confusion. Before Bella could utter a word to defend herself or explain Ethan's presence, Marco threw her off guard with a question that hung in the air like an unspoken accusation.

"Is it true that you can't bear a child for me?"

Bella's heart sank at the unexpected question.
