Jude breathed in and out in a laboured manner, his fists clenching in anger. Robert rubbed his back gently, trying to calm him down.

"Now you see why I didn't want to ask you anything? I was sacred that this would happen. I don't want anything to happen to you, please."

"No, don't worry. I'm sorry, okay? That name just brings back a lot of bad memories. But I want you to know that those people are liars. Goddamn liars, I tell you."

"Do you know who Mr David is?" Robert asked curiously, leaning in.

"Well, I do not. But if he's one of the Trendtones, then he's bad news. Mendev is one of them as well." He paused for a moment as he realized that Mendev was in fact, a dead man. "Or was."

"That is new. Who are the Trendtones? What exactly are they all about? Mr David explained that they were a group of top business men who supported each other in the business world. And just now, you said I shouldn't believe a word they say. So who are they?"

"Like I said before, they are liars. Damn liars w

Robert didn't know when tears started rolling down his face. Seeing his grandfather in so much pain was one thing. And knowing all that happened to his own father was another. Suddenly, he realized that he too was crying and he immediately wiped his face with his hands. Leaving his eyes wet and watery as he embraced his grandfather who was now sobbing seriously."Oh! My poor son." Those were the only words that escaped from Jude's mouth as tears rolled down his wrinkled face."It's fine, grandfather. It's all fine." He paused for a second, swallowing hard. "If father could see you right now, you know he wouldn't want you thinking about all this. He wouldn't want you suffering either.""But I can't help it." He said amidst tears, a sad look swallowing his brows. "I know he wouldn't want me to feel this way but it just hurts whenever I remember it.""I understand, grandfather. You know I used to feel this way about my mother. I hated that she had to leave. But later, I realized she left

It was almost 1am that morning. A tall man obviously in his mind thirties, stood by the operating table. White lights from the bulbs above shining vigorously at what he was doing. His light brown hair shone radiantly under the light as he concentrated on his work. Obviously, he was a family man who had stayed late at work. On his left side of his coat, just on the breast pocket was a little print written "Dr. Ford Brian".The room was extremely large with many operating tables and human sized refrigerators pressed against each side of the wall. On the operating table where Dr Ford stood, was the body of 59-year-old Rick Mendev of the Mendev Group. His naked and lifeless body was being examined ."Hmmm. Interesting." Dr Ford sighed, looking at the hole that went through his right shoulder to his back. "How is it that he died of such a minor wound? No important organ was punctured in the process of the assassination, so how is he dead?" He moved towards where his head laid and examined

The huge man wiped his mouth slowly, exposing a very maniacal grin as he stared at the body on the floor. He lowered himself to the body, squatting above it, then placed two of his fingers at the side of Dr Ford's neck to check his pulse. And alas! Dr Ford was dead."Okay... My work here is done." He said slowly before getting up on his feet. "Or is it?" He sighed slowly, turning to face the body of Rick Mendev on the operating table. "Oh, man. You did it again. You weren't supposed to kill him, you know." For a moment, a regretful look kissed his face. He paced about for a few seconds as he kept talking. "But it felt you so good!" He grunted between gritted teeth and sighed. "The boss will just have to take care of it. He'll cover it up some how."Quickly, he took a polythene material and walked up to the body on the operating table. He carefully covered the body with it, then swept it in to his arms. Neither did he look scared nor grossed out that the body he held so close to himsel

"Weird right? I guess it is, to you. But I didn't find it weird. We weren't exactly close but I worked with him a lot because I liked his spirit. And the codes? He didn't want anybody else to decide what he was saying. Even I didn't understand the proposal when I first received it. It was upon meeting that he related everything to me. Damn! I was so angry at him. I cussed him out and brought up the death of my late son but he denied it. I wasn't exactly expecting him to admit it but a small part of me thought he had a conscience. A small part of me hoped that he would say something, but unfortunately, he didn't." Robert listened with full attention. He didn't know if he was to feel relief or anger at what he was hearing."But now, he is dead. And some how's his murder has been linked to my name, to your name, to the company's name. All for what?""They just need a suspect, I suppose." Jude sighed calmly. " After I cussed him out that day, he left and I made sure never to do anything w

"Good morning, Sir William. It's good to see you." The police chief greeted with a very wide smile on his face as soon as Robert and Jude walked in. "Good morning to you too, Mr Robert.""Yes, good morning." Jude said coldly, seated in his wheelchair which Robert had positioned right in front of the table."Please have a seat, young master." The police chief added, referring to Robert. Robert nodded, taking the only empty seat in the room. "To what do I owe this visit? It's barely 8am." He say down, placing his hand on the table as he watched his visitors' faces. His bald head shone brightly under the dawn's brilliant sun. He was of an average body build, and his whole appearance hinted that he was in his mid or late fourties. On his desk was a shiny slate with the name, Bricks McDave carved in to it."Officer McDave, you really should blame this one on your cops." Jude started, his eyes and voice totally displeased. The officer's eyes widened in curiousity at Mr Jude's utterance."Wh

"Are you okay, grandfather?" Robert asked as soon as they got in to the car. Jude nodded slowly, his head bent over one of his palms. "I'm sorry about that, grandfather. Let's get you home so you can get some rest." Soon, they were back at the estate. Raymond rushed out as the car drove through the gate. His eyes looked teary, and soiled with remorse."Welcome, sir." He said to Robert who was about to get the door of the back seat. Robert nodded gently, taking the wheelchair out. Raymond eyes widened as he saw the wheelchair. For some reason, he blamed himself for the whole thing, especially after Liam confronted him. "I'm so sorry sir." He managed to speak out. Robert opened the door of the passenger seat and helped Jude out, sitting him in the wheelchair."There's no need for all that, Raymond. It isn't your fault, okay? I'll get a nurse whose sole responsibility will be to watch after him." Raymond nodded slowly, following behind the both of them."I hope you're feeling better, sir

The tension in the atmosphere was undeniable. The cleaner lowered his head, pealing down at the squeaky floors he had mopped, just for the sake of listening to what was happening in the Manager's office. At this point, Juliet and Hailey rushed past them."Don't you speak?" Robert said, even calmer than he sounded the last time. He sighed calmly and wiped his hand over his face. "I'm sorry for my tone but is this the best time for that?""I'm sorry, sir. I missed a spot, that's why." He said in a low voice, taking the mop bucket in his hands."Okay." Robert said once more, walking quickly away. It was evident that he was extremely stressed just from the way he walked. The cleaner flashed an unapologetic grin and walked away."So this is what it is now." He said slowly as he pushed open the door of a supposed storage room and got in. He set down the bucket and threw the mop against the floor, letting out a somewhat tired moan. "The madam better send me that money or else...." He stopped

"What was all that about?" Robert thundered as soon as he walked through the elevator door. Juliet stood up at once, her hands rubbing each other in a nervous manner. "I'm absent at the office for one day. Just one day. And you get in a fight? Seriously?""I'm really sorry, sir." She started, her being filled with remorse. "It wasn't intentional at all. But Hailey...""Of course, you'll blame it on your colleague." He paused and sighed, moving from one corner of the room to another. "Sit." He commanded. Juliet immediately sat down, absolutely in the dark of what would happen next. He walked directly to her desk and placed both his hands on the table. "Now, tell me." He continued calmly. "I want nothing but the truth.""She was picking on another colleague. And I...""And that was enough to cause a fight?""It's really not that. But she started it. She began hurling words at me. I couldn't stay silent after a while so I talked back at her.""Are you serious?" He asked in surprise, in

"Now listen to me, you creep. You are just bluffing and..." The call ended before he could say anything else. He grunted in anger and walked back to where he was before. Raymond had alerted the police officers inside, and a chase had began to get Olivia. Robert walked back to them, breathing heavily."The police are after her." He tried to catch his breath."I know, sir. Let's meet with the detectives at once. I got everything she said on tape.""Yes!" Roberts eyes lit up. "Let's go, then." The two men rushed in back in to the building. Fransisco followed slowly behind them, but when he saw that they were really ahead of him, and wouldn't notice if he wasn't with them, he moved back. He looked from side to side as he rushed out of the premises. Meanwhile, many policemen ran out of the building like a colony of ants, each person dispersing themselves into different cars. Soon, the cars were out of sight. Robert walked out of the building with Raymond beside him. "It's a good thing you

The detective squinted as he looked at his colleague. He turned back to Robert with a stern face before speaking."That is a serious accusation, sir. Are you sure about what you are saying?""Sure? Not exactly. But I really suspect that they might have had something to do with this. About Michael, I do not know how involved he might be. But Sophia? She even went to Juliet's house once to talk bad about me.""And how do you know that?""I saw her leave the house. I tried to ask her why she had come but she ignored me, and left hurriedly. Also, Juliet told me about it when I went in.""Hmm..." He sighed softly as he wrote something in his notebook. "And why would this Sophia want to talk bad about you to your girlfriend?""Sophia and I used to be married. But we got a divorce right before I met my grandfather. After that, she tried had to get back in to my life, but I refused. I think that made her very angry because she said questionable things after, things I didn't take serious.""Sh

They will show you their ID cards first.""Yes, sir." Ryan nodded. He left as soon as Robert waved him off."Sir..." Raymond called hesitantly. "Please, I need to speak with you.""What is this about, Raymond? You know this isn't the time for conversations that are not...""It is very important, sir.""Alright." He sighed and got in to the car. Raymond walked to the other side and got in as well. "What is it?""It's about Fransisco." He paused and swallowed hard. "I... I heard him in his room." Robert squinted with concentration. • Chapter 196: Re-emerged Case

Robert didn't sleep the whole night. His eyes were open, fixed to the ceiling and filled with tears in his grandfather's room. It felt like the night would never end, like the torture and pain he was feeling would never end as well. Raymond knocked on the door several times to find out if he was alright, but he asked him to leave every single time. Just as his eyes were beginning to flutter with drowsiness, a bright light pierced through the window. He got off the couch immediately and headed to his room. There, he had a quick change of clothes before heading down to meet Raymond, and of course, Fransisco."Good morning, sir." Raymond said as soon as he saw him walking down the stairs. There was a smile on his face. One that Robert could not fathom at first. "Are you okay?""I'm fine." He said sharply with very steady eyes. He didn't seem like someone who had sobbed all night, maybe because he was very good at hiding his feelings. "We need to go to the station now.""But you've not h

  • Chapter 195: Blood And Water

"Gone? Gone?" She asked, totally calm. She was dazed for a moment. She stood still with tears running down her cheeks. "What is gone? What does that even mean?" She managed to murmer."I don't even know what happened. I met the policemen on my way to the house, and I saw her. I saw her right there being placed on the stretcher. And she wasn't moving."She shot an angry eye at him as he tried to explain what he had seen. He stopped immediately and looked down. It was clear that all he was saying didn't matter to her at this point. She didn't want to hear anything."What did you do to my sister, Robert? What did you do to her?" She yelled."No, no. What are saying? I do not know what exactly happened to her. But I will make sure they pay dearly for it.""You, liar. What did she ever do to you? She didn't deserve this. She didn't!" Mary yelled, crying bitterly. She didn't mind the staring eyes that looked in her direction. She just wanted to know why this had to happen to her sister. "

"Police station? What for?" She asked with wide eyes. He couldn't see her but he could already tell the expression on her face. And that was because she sounded just as confused as she looked. "What does that have to do with my sister, Robert? Where is my sister?""I'm really sorry, Mary." He said with a shaky voice. He could no longer contain the hurt he felt. "They don't really know what happened to her, but....""But what?" She interrupted sharply with tears dancing freely in her eyes, waiting gor the perfect opportunity to pour out. She heard what he was saying, but she did not understand. She did not want to understand if it was really what she was thinking. "What are you talking about, Robert? Where the hell is my sister?""Just meet me at the station now." He ended the call immediately. He couldn't mutter the courage to tell her that Juliet was found dead just minutes ago. He took a deep, shaky breath and nodded at the police officer. "I'll be at the station."Immediately after

  • Chapter 193: Bloody Dusk

As he drove closer, he could see bright lights in a distance. He squinted hard to see exactly where the lights were coming from, but he couldn't see clearly. He sped up and was surprised to see police vehicles littered all over the place. He parked his car close by and looked on. He could see some officers placing barricade tapes around that particular area. Thoughts started to fly once more in his mind, and for a moment, his throat tightened. "No, no. Don't overthink anything, Robert." He said to himself and took a deep breath. He got out of the car, and walked quickly towards the area. As he got closer, he thought he recognised the car that was parked on the side of the road. He shook his head in disbelief and got even nearer to the scene. But before he could go past the barricade tapes, he was stopped by one of the officers."You can't come here, sir." The officer said roughly, his hand against Robert's chest in a light manner."What is going on here?" He asked in confusion, stari

  • Chapter 192: Quick Search

About two hours after Juliet left the office, Robert decided to do same. Juliet suddenly came to his mind. "Isn't she home yet?" He said under his breath. "Why hasn't she called yet?" He picked up his phone from the table and called her immediately. The first time, there was no response. He called again, and still, there was no response. "Well, I guess she's busy. I'll just call when I get home." He stood up and arranged all the documents, piling each on top of the other. He tucked everything under his arm and headed to the car."Good evening sir." The security guard hailed from his duty post."Yes, good evening." He answered before placing the documents in the back seat of the car. He closed the car door and walked closer to the young man. "Umm... Tomorrow, some men will be here to do a few checks and fixings in the building. Do let them in, alright?""Yes sir.""Alright then. Have a good night." He nodded and walked to the car. In no time, he sped off. As he drove down the street t

It was 5pm now. The once blue sky was slowly getting darker. Little golden strips beatified the now grey like clouds. Juliet had a pile of documents in front of her and was working on them with utmost focus. Robert sat right opposite her, doing the same. His eyes suddenly looked in the direction of the glass wall, and then, at Juliet. He stared at her for a moment. He agreed with himself one more time that she was indeed the most beautiful woman he had ever set his eyes on. It felt like time stopped during those few moments, and he was lost in the beauty he was beholding."What are you looking at, Mister?" She asked in a serious tone. Her eyes, pinned on the papers in front of her. Robert shook his head with a soft smile, and peered down at his watch."You should get going, honey. It's past five.""Oh!" She exclaimed calmly and placed the pen in her hand on the table. She looked up and met his eyes. "You really want me to go?""If there was an alternative at this point, then I would
