Chapter 11: The Actualization

For the first time in his life, Robert actually felt good about himself. He looked down, again at the debit card sitting in his lap so carelessly and breathed deeply. Happiness was evidently written all over his face. His bright, blue eyes beamed in delight, illuminating his dark skin as he smiled heartily.

"I know it has been a long and incredibly tasking day for you, my child. So I believe it is necessary that you get some rest." His grandfather proposed in concern. And he was right. Robert was way beyond tired, after all the torturing he had encountered in the cell, he really needed to get some rest.

"I could mistake you for a mind reading shaman, grandfather." His chuckles filled the room as he alighted from his seat. "I am really tired."

"Funny boy. You're just like your father, cracking jokes no matter what the situation at hand might be." The smile on Jude's face melted in to a long, sad expression as memories of his late son came to mind. His eyes searched the place immediately, as if trying to sight him before lowering down to face the floor. Pierce, his son was really close to him before his death. They were inseparable and that fetched the both on them the nickname "The Twins". The name was really a paradox, for the fact that the both of them were born in different times. A sad smiled kissed his face as he shook his head softly and sighed, now looking up at Robert. "And you look so much like him."

"I understand your grief, grandfather and I know you miss him. I never got to know the kind of person he was, but I wished everyday that he hadn't passed on, same with my mother. But one thing I vow to do is to make him proud. I will make you proud, grandfather and that is a promise." Robert's deep voice bounced against the walls of the spacious room, filling his grandfather with so much hope. Just smiled warmly as he realized how much of an achiever his grandson happened to be. It sure does flow in our veins, he thought to himself, almost aloud.

"That's my boy! You should get some rest then. Raymond will show you to a nice room to settle in. Meanwhile, get ready for dinner later today". He nodded at Raymond, who immediately ushered Robert up the stairs.

"That is alright, grandfather. I'll see you later." He sighed finally, as he walked towards the stairs, with Raymond walking just behind him. The floor of the stairs were made of the classiest marble, the finest Robert had ever seen. They were perfectly spotless as they glittered in the golden evening sun, giving them a surreal and aesthetic appearance. The staircase, on the other hand was made of the strongest and finest mahogany. Anyone could see that it was carved by true experts and Robert was an exception. He touched the staircase softly as he went up the stairs, staring at each piece in amazement as he stepped delicately on them. Never had he seen such fine materials, not even at the expensive hotel he used to work.

"To the right, sir." Raymond said as they reached the top of the stairs, ushering him into another heaven altogether. His eyes lit up in astonishment as he saw the wonderfully enchanting art the hallway beheld. The brown statures stood perfectly against the white walls, radiating class and beauty. He looked at each piece attentively as he moved further down the hallway. Raymond smiled as he observed the young master's reaction to the artefacts.

"That is exactly what I thought when I first came to work here." He said as Robert's bewildered eyes met his.

"Wow!" Robert exclaimed as his focus returned to the beauties he had just beheld. Everything that had happened in just a day's span felt like a movie. Like a dream he didn't want to wake up from. Learning about his root and worth filled him with an even greater purpose and will to life, and he couldn't wait to experiment and learn new things. Just few days ago, he was a mere hotel receptionist who was being humiliated every second of the job, spat on like a mere animal and pushed around like a slave. But that all changed in a twinkle of an eye. To him, it still felt unbelievable that he was from the lineage of the greatest business men to have lived but he had been given all the proof he wanted. He felt indeed grateful to his grandfather for putting up with all the inconveniences just to find him, for coming right in time to pull him from the deep shackles he was bounded in for that long a time. He had been called a lot of things but one thing he knew he could never be was a quitter. And that made him determine in his heart not to let his grandfather down.

He thought about The Richards for a moment as he followed Raymond. An inevitable laugh trailed from his mouth as he remembered everything they had put him through. To them, returning the ring to The Williams was obviously done to spite and embarrass him just like every other time, but it turned out to be the most life changing switch he could never had imagined. Although he had been trying his best to please his ex wife and her family since their marriage, a part of him had always wanted to know their reactions if he ever made it. It was really easy back then, wanting to be rich just so he could receive some respect and accolades from his supposed family but after what happened at the station, he just wanted to see the surprised, yet embarrassed look on all of their faces.

Maybe then, all the aching and pain they had caused him from the very beginning would be avenged, just maybe.
