King Moon’s Council

The base’s council convened as soon as the scouts returned with confirmation of the tragic events. The raiding team sent out to recover fuel had been completely wiped out by a mutated monster. While such dangers weren’t entirely uncommon in this post-apocalyptic world, the council wasn’t ready to simply accept this outcome.

Richard, in particular, was deeply troubled—those men had been part of a squad under his command.

“We can’t just sit back and let this happen,” Richard argued, his voice tense with anger. “We need to act.”

Ordinarily, the civilian members of the council would have opposed such a notion, especially given the report of a three-headed snake—a creature too terrifying to confront head-on. But the idea of leaving such a monster unchecked, knowing it was so cl

The city around them had been largely overtaken by nature, with many areas overgrown by trees. Only a few hundred meters from the site of the attack, a sprawling forest stretched out like an endless green barrier.“We’ve never dared to enter this forest before today,” Michael remarked casually as their group ventured deeper into the thick woodland. The towering trees loomed above them, blocking out much of the sunlight and offering a welcome respite from the humid heat.“Why?” Victor asked, glancing around at the unfamiliar terrain.“Monsters,” Michael replied. “Most of the buildings here have been swallowed by nature, and unlike zombies, monsters are territorial.”The group moved deeper into the woods, where the remnants of

Crash! Gideon’s boot smashed through the door, splintering it as Michael, Deji, and Victor followed. The air was cool despite the oppressive heat outside, but sweat clung to Michael’s forehead. Deji’s knuckles were white around his spear, his tension palpable. The house was a dusty skeleton of its former self, its silence interrupted only by the heavy breathing of the intruders. On the other side of the building, another group burst in. The two factions converged in the dim living room, a charged atmosphere crackling between them.“James,” Michael growled, his voice a low rumble.James, flanked by Gbolahan, Lekan, and a hulking giant of a man, met his glare. The giant, a veritable mountain of muscle, loomed menacingly.“I see you brought backup,” Gideon said, a smirk pla

Victor moved. Silently, without hesitation, he broke from the group, following the creature’s trail deeper into the forest. His heart thundered in his chest, not from fear but from anticipation. He could feel the power surging through him, threatening to break free. He had been restrained, always hiding what he was, but here, now, in the thick of the hunt—there was no need for restraint. In the clearing ahead, the serpent coiled around the base of a tree, licking its wounds. Its three heads darted and snapped at the air, but its movements were sluggish. Weakened.Victor struck. In a blur of motion, he tore through the underbrush, hands sinking into the rough hide of the closest head. The serpent barely had time to react before Victor ripped it clean from its body. Blood sprayed across the clearing

  • The Revenant Mutation   Chapter 25: Training

“An outrage!” Basit’s voice cracked with fury, his body quivering with each shouted curse. His usual bluster seemed small compared to the collective anger in the council room. The sight of the smoldering ruins of their stores, once a testament to their months of hard work, had turned their sanctuary into a battleground of frustration and despair. Food stocks, vital for their survival, had been reduced to ashes. Uche, the Base Chief, wore exhaustion like a second skin. He’d been on the front lines of the fire, his face smudged with soot and weariness. “I’ve asked Mide to gather all available details on the perpetrators,” he said, his voice heavy with fatigue. Ademide, the diligent attendant, stepped forward with a file, its contents meticulously organized. Uche flipped through it briefly, his brow furrowing deeper with each name. He handed the file to the council members, their eyes scanning the pages with mounting tension. Minutes ticked by as the file circulated. Femi, the base’s

Alex dropped from the MRAP to see a destroyed settlement, buildings were reduced to ash and embers, with smoke lingering in the air. Some soldiers coughed as they navigated through the wreckage. So far, this was the fifth settlement they had come across that had been destroyed by Brigands. Alex’s bald adjutant, Timothy came up to him with a strip of cloth covering his nose. “It was yesterday at most, the victims are Free Men, and we believe they fought with Vikings, but we found something weird” Alex stood with his hand folded behind him and his sleek sword hanging from his waist. He scanned the surroundings calmly. “What’s weird?” Timothy led Alex to a spot where body parts were strewn across the ground, it was obvious that they were not killed by a human. Although they were cut into pieces with blood splatters all over the place, there was not a single drop of blood left in these body parts. It was like they were torn apart and then drained of blood. “Similar bodies like thes

Victor’s form vanished, he sped towards that direction. Running from building top to building top, anyone that was passing by would only see a momentary blur. The sound of the Revenant ripping through the wind as they ran grew louder in his ears. At this point, he picked up an unfamiliar scent. This was not Paul, which meant another Revenant was in the camp.Victor increased his speed, but it seemed like his target had realized that he was being followed. The Revenant picked up the pace as well, jumped over the south wall faster than the stationed guards could perceive. Two seconds after, Victor sped past them as well, leaving a gust of wind in his wake. One of the guards shivered as he pulled his sweater closer to himself, he cursed the wind for blowing harder for no reason.Victor sensed that his target was moving towards a tall office building ahead, from the words on the signboard, he knew this building was once the Federal Secretariat. The glazed over eyes of the man, Ahmad, widened in surprise, “Son of a b*tch!” he cursed aloud. The two of them separated and Victor helped him to his feet.A bright smile spread across Ahmad’s face and he laughed, “Ahahahah, how are you still alive?! It seems the Heavens don't want me to live the rest of my life alone.”He laughed louder with his hands on his waist.Victor smiled, he had missed this guy’s jovial and happy-go-lucky attitude, “How are you not dead? And what happened to your eyes?”Ahmad finally stopped laughing, an amiable smile spread across his face.“Let’s go talk somewhere better”His body whooshed towards the Federal Secretariat, Victor followed in a blur.In less than two seconds, the two of them were standing on top of the 12 storey building, overlooking the entire area. Down the road from the Secretariat was a rundown mall, Victor could sense an oppressive presence there.“How did you survive? Did the others survive too?” Ahmad asked about the rest of their gro

In the return trip, there was no need for Paul to cover the convoy with his killing intent like he did when they started the journey. All the monsters in the area had vanished in fear of the giant lion. Only zombies wandered in the road, and those were easy pickings for the raiders who turned them to target practice as their buses and trucks sped past.Michael, Lara and other team members tortured Victor with questions throughout the journey.“What did you say your mutation is called again?” Lara asked for the hundredth time.Victor rolled his eyes as he answered, “Revenant Mutation”, this was what he decided to call it, so they won’t burn him at stake for being a zombie or a monster. After all, there was no other way explain how he survived the giant lion and kill the Gar Alpha.

If not for the immense pain threshold that he had, he would have blacked out from the multiple injuries. In fact, the only reason he had to crawl was because his legs had been crushed from the waist down and were still healing. He couldn’t walk, so he had no choice but to crawl with his only remaining arm. After several laborous crawling, he finally reached Paul.“Cap?!” He called out, his voice lacked any strength.
