Victor’s sword slid away and a cold sensation came from his neck. Paul’s cutlass was on his neck.

“You lost again.”

“Damn it!” This was the fourth time he lost today.

They had moved to armed combat this week, and in just two days, Victor had learnt how to use a sword and a saber. He did well with either weapon, and after lots of mental practice last night, he decided to use both weapons to test the ability of his brain to multitask.

The process was grueling. Paul didn’t care that he was trying out a new skill, Ambidexterity. He fought without holding back, injuring Victor and knocking the weapons out of his hand four times today alone.

On the calm sea, a landing ship tank floated not far from the coast. On the stern of the ship, a black flag was flapping in the wind. At the center of the flag was a crimson-colored orchid flower, the flower’s petals are slightly stylized with sharp edges. Men in black combat suits and red petal insignia on their chest patrolled on deck, armed with automatic rifles. At first glance, Davidson’s office hardly looked like it was in a cabin, it was a bit luxurious but not extravagant. Apart from the official attire of black robe with a red spire design on his chest, he also had a silver chain with an orchid shaped pendant which hung from his neck, and a red skull cap on his head.Davidson was a man in his fifties, light streaks of gray could be found in his brown hair. Half a kilometer from the base, thousands of zombies swarmed towards King Moon Base. “What?”Victor stared at Paul incredulously, was this a joke?“We don’t have enough people to fight off the zombies, I could try to use an Alpha Zombie’s call to force the zombies to retreat, but that would only reveal what I am.”As a revenant, it was possible to use the same call an Alpha Zombie would, it is easy to gather zombies, but once the horde gets too big, it becomes difficult to control them efficiently. Whatever the case may be, they still didn’t have enough defenders to win.“If we save the base, why would anyone want to harm us? We’re not monsters”“A zombie living among humans. • The Revenant Mutation   Chapter 35: Let me send you to Hell

The front gate was a pot of chaos. Zombies swarmed the walls, climbing the Veilvein to reach the top. Many defenders on top of the barricade cut off the zombies as they reached the top, or stabbed through their skulls to kill them. Zombies fell back down, pushing some more down to the ground. As they fell, more climbed over them, trying to reach the top. It was a stampede. It was chaos. Michael swung his sword, cutting off the head of a zombie, the blood splashed on his face. A zombie jumped through the air, and landed on the barricade. It leapt at Michael immediately, both of them tumbled on the floor on top of the barricade. Michael kicked it off and they disentangled. The zombie didn’t stop, it leapt at him again, but Michael swung his sword, cutting off the top of the zombie’s skull, and catching the zombie by the neck with his left hand. Richard led his team of raiders to rally together the remaining members of the base that couldn’t fight. This included the Base Chief, Uche, some of the women, the elderly, children and those incapable of fighting like the sick and disabled. They were put in a large building, it was an event hall before the apocalypse, but it had become a makeshift bunker. There were two large buildings in the compound, one bungalow while the other was a storey building. They kept the people in the two storey building so the guards could have a better vantage point. All the windows had been reinforced with iron railings, there was a garage linked to the building with trucks that were filled with necessities and enough space for this remaining population in case they needed to make a quick getaway. Richard looked at a book that contained the information of all those within the building. ‘Nineteen elderly, about ten disabled, one of which is blind… sigh’, he could tell that his job was not going to be

Gbolahan was entertaining the Viking envoy with food and dancing women. Some young girls were made to serve the envoy and pamper him. He was smiling lewdly to the young girls but he held back the urge to do more than stare at them ravenously, with a little petting every now and then. Gbolahan didn’t bother about this.Sitting at the table were James and the previously incarcerated Viking leaders, Amina and Drago but they refused to eat.“Why are you not eating?” Gbolahan asked with a genial smile. “Are the dishes not to your taste?”Drago shot him a sharp look, “I will only eat after the head of that monster is brought to me in a fucking box”Gbolahan replied, keeping his smile intact, “Captain Paul has gone out

In the return trip, there was no need for Paul to cover the convoy with his killing intent like he did when they started the journey. All the monsters in the area had vanished in fear of the giant lion. Only zombies wandered in the road, and those were easy pickings for the raiders who turned them to target practice as their buses and trucks sped past.Michael, Lara and other team members tortured Victor with questions throughout the journey.“What did you say your mutation is called again?” Lara asked for the hundredth time.Victor rolled his eyes as he answered, “Revenant Mutation”, this was what he decided to call it, so they won’t burn him at stake for being a zombie or a monster. After all, there was no other way explain how he survived the giant lion and kill the Gar Alpha.

He landed on the Alpha Gar’s back, the monster tried to shake him off, but Victor held onto its shoulder and in one smooth move, he pulled, snapping the bone and causing the Gar to fall to the ground in the middle of the camp. With the ground under them, Victor punched the back of the monster’s head, his psychic force infiltrated the Gar’s head before exploding within its skull, turning its brain into mush, a

He knew it must have been placed there by Paul while he slept.Although he had drunk his fill from the lion monster, he needed real human blood to make up for his lost vitality. The bottle was empty in no time, allowing him to finally feel vigorous once more. He couldn’t even remember how much his body ached just a few hours prior. After confirming that all his injuries were gone, he came out of the tent he was placed in to rest. The camp was having a campfire, and a man he couldn’t recognize was singing songs with a sonorous voice and his local guitar, s

After discussing with Gbolahan, they found a common ground.Dotun was a thin man with a small tuft of hair on his chin. This was a contrast to the built Kingsley.Standing at the other end of the table was a man staring at them with aloofness, “If you can release our people and join forces with us, His Highness, Drottnar the First, promise to deliver to your right hand man…”, he gestured to James, “...the head of the people that hurt and killed his sister. If not for the immense pain threshold that he had, he would have blacked out from the multiple injuries. In fact, the only reason he had to crawl was because his legs had been crushed from the waist down and were still healing. He couldn’t walk, so he had no choice but to crawl with his only remaining arm. After several laborous crawling, he finally reached Paul.“Cap?!” He called out, his voice lacked any strength. He prodded Paul, but the man only groaned in return.Seeing that the man was still alive, he pushed himself into a sitting positon and leaned against the lion’s

Blood poured out of its mouth like a river, and it was not breathing steadily anymore.‘The fuck?! Is this thing immortal?! Can’t you just die already?’“The vitality of a monster of this level is truly terrifying, I am sure parts of its heart was crushed from my attack. Victor rolled like a grub on the floor, narrowly dodging a stomp from the lion. After rejoining the fight, he and Paul had coordinated their attacks. But the lion’s skin was too tough, and its muscles were resilient. They couldn’t land much damage, and they still had to avoid the lion’s almost unavoidable attacks. The lion took a chance, moving like a ghost, it hit Victor from above, and tried to stomp him to death, but missed.Paul tried to help, but he was hit aside by the lion’s tail.
