The roars of the undead shattered the eerie stillness, filling the city with chaos. The once-quiet streets became a battlefield of snarls, growls, and piercing screams as hundreds of zombies swarmed the vehicles. Decay hung heavy in the air, mingling with the acrid scent of fear.
Amid the melee, it became clear these zombies were no shambling remnants of humanity. While most stumbled clumsily forward, a select few exhibited terrifying speed and strength. They hurled themselves at the school bus with bone-jarring force, shaking its reinforced frame. Others leapt with predator-like precision, their target the team leader and his companion atop the Hilux.
The leader stood his ground, his machete slicing through the air in sharp, lethal arcs. His movements were precise, his resolve unyielding. But his partner wasn’t as fortunate. A snarling blur of undead flesh slammed into the man, sending him tumbling from the vehicle’s roof into the writhing horde below. His scream was cut short as blood sprayed, the zombies tearing into him with savage hunger.
From the shadows of a nearby building, Victor froze, his breath catching in his throat. The sight of blood struck something deep within, primal and overwhelming. A low growl escaped him unbidden as his vision swam with red. Veins darkened beneath his skin, his canines lengthening into razor-edged fangs. Hunger surged—a maddening, insatiable craving.
He clenched his fists, forcing himself to resist the pull. His nails dug into his palms, sharp pain grounding him as he fought to claw back control. Slowly, his face returned to normal, but the effort left him shaking, sweat streaking down his temples. When he opened his eyes again, he found himself perched on a windowsill, poised to leap into the carnage below.
Victor staggered back into the shadows, heart pounding. The bloodlust had almost claimed him. How long could he hold it at bay? The question lingered as he drew in a ragged breath. Yet amidst the turmoil, he noted a faint glimmer of hope: he could block out the scent if he truly focused. It was a fragile victory, but one that brought the smallest flicker of resolve to his grim expression.
The leader’s battle cry pulled Victor’s gaze back to the street. The towering zombie at the center of the chaos—a grotesque, eight-foot-tall monster of distorted flesh and bone—lumbered toward the raiders. Faces pressed against its wrinkled skin, as if trapped in eternal agony, and a single horn jutted from its skull. The monstrosity roared, drawing more undead to its side.
Victor moved without thinking, leaping from the building with a predator’s grace. His feet hit the ground silently, and he darted through the wreckage until he emerged directly in the path of the colossal zombie. Its hollow eyes locked on him, recognition sparking like a challenge.
‘Stay calm, Vic… Stay calm. Damn it, why did I jump in front of it? What if it wants to fight?’ The thought was fleeting as the zombie roared and charged.
The impact was like a freight train. The creature’s bulk sent Victor flying, crashing through the wall of a nearby building. Dust filled the air as bricks tumbled around him. Pain flared through his body, but as he staggered to his feet, he realized there was no lasting damage. His body was tougher than it had any right to be.
The zombie, momentarily confused by his resilience, roared again and rushed forward. This time, Victor was ready. As its massive hands swung down to crush him, he surged forward, catching its wrists with a feral strength. The air seemed to shudder around them as they grappled, the zombie snarling in disbelief at his defiance.
Victor’s fury ignited, boiling over as his grip tightened. With a bone-snapping crunch, the creature's wrists gave way. It howled in pain, lunging forward with a desperate headbutt. The blow sent Victor reeling, but he steadied himself quickly, rage sharpening his focus.
He darted behind the creature, seizing the horn jutting from its skull. With a snarl, he yanked, throwing the beast off balance. The zombie crashed to the ground, and Victor seized the opportunity, hurling it into a nearby building.
His eyes caught a glint of metal—a gate with sturdy rods. Sprinting to it, he tore one free with a sharp pull. The zombie emerged from the rubble, charging once more, its bloodshot eyes burning with rage. Victor hurled the rod like a spear, and it pierced the creature’s skull with a sickening thud. The zombie staggered, then crumpled lifeless to the ground.
The horde faltered without their leader, their collective direction unraveling. Victor climbed to higher ground, watching as the zombies scattered aimlessly.
“Idiots,” he muttered under his breath.
The rumble of engines drew his attention. The truck and school bus barreled through the remnants of the horde, the survivors clinging to their vehicles as they sped away. Victor stood frozen, torn. This was his chance—a way back to humanity, to something more than this lonely, cursed existence. But rejoining civilization carried risks, not just to him but to anyone who took him in.
“What now?” he murmured, his voice lost in the wind. Standing there, surrounded by decay and silence, Victor realized one thing: he needed a plan. And fast.

The truck and school bus barreled down a dusty road, flanked by the skeletal remains of houses, each a silent witness to the apocalypse's wrath. An hour ago, they had finally shaken off the last of the zombies. Paul sat beside the driver, staring at the blood dripping off his machete, pooling on the rubber vehicle mat.Inside the bus, twelve raiders sat scattered, their fatigue palpable. They had barely spent ten minutes looting when the zombies attacked. He had seen countless battles and lost too many friends. Each encounter left a deeper scar, and today felt particularly foreboding. The Revenant Mutation Chapter 6: King Moon Base
The convoy drove for almost twenty minutes before reaching an area that resembled a Government Reserved Area. The roads were paved, and the buildings appeared to be government offices. Although most of the names on the buildings had begun to fade, they were still legible. They soon reached a roadblock where trucks, cars, and other vehicles had been piled up to form walls. In the center of this makeshift barrier was a gate, with men patrolling on top, rifles in hand.“This was the Government Reserved Area, an exclusive zone, so it wasn’t heavily populated when the apocalypse hit. That made it easier to reclaim part of it and turn it into a base,” Deji said. He sat beside Victor, staring out the window.Victor looked at Deji in mild surprise at his lack of hostility but decided to remain silent.“If you were infected, you would have turned by now. And if you were one of those bastard Brigands, you wouldn’t be able to do much damage to the base anyway. Believe me, others have tried,” Dej

In the Base Chief's office. The governor's office served as the office of the base chief. Paul sat in front of the chief, they were discussing in low tones. The door swung open and two men entered. One of them was a few years younger than Paul, he looked like he was in his twenties. He was clean-shaven and was wearing a camouflage vest. The other man was wearing a thick jacket and an eyepatch.“Solomon, Richard. How was the raid?” The base chief, Uche, asked with excitement.Richard, the man in camouflage, smiled, “Good, good. We were able to raid the General Hospital this time. Got a lot of stuff.”“That's good, that's good. Feranmi has been on my neck about lack of medications, methylated spirits, bandages and cotton wool.” Uche nodded in satisfaction. Both men found spots to sit.Solomon adjusted his eyepatch, he was in charge of patrols around the base, guarding the walls and scouting around the base to study the overall situation around their home.“We scouted the path towards th

The Council was a group of important figures within King Moon. They were the base's Management. Their meeting hall had a table, with Uche sitting at the head of the table. Paul, Solomon and Richard sat one after the other on the left side. On his right was Mrs. Titi, she was still in her apron, beside her was a man with dark fingernails, he was the leading mechanic Femi. A few more people sat at the table, each of them was a leading figure. The hall was rowdy, apart from Paul and Uche who watched as the council members argued on the pros and cons of a large population, the others were engaged in the discussion.“We don't even have enough to keep ourselves afloat. You want to bring in more people?! What will we eat then? Huh? Huh?!” A chubby man in his fifties argued with spittle flying everywhere. “You will prefer to pump yourself with food rather than save more lives. Mojeed, are you not ashamed of yourself? The Revenant Mutation Chapter 9: Demands are a Privilege
The Capon of a Brigand group was the leader, and under the leadership of a Capon, Brigands became less of a group of bandits, to a group of coordinated and experienced terrorists in this post-apocalyptic world. They represented a type of order in the chaos, and under the command of Capons, powerful Brigand groups had appeared in the world. Some of which even held large territories and had hundreds of members. The Black Ax Brigands were a small group of about 40 men, and their area of influence was in the River Basin area, which was two neighborhoods west of the location of King Moon Base. But due to the large population of zombies and monsters, it was highly difficult for humans to move around, so the Black Ax Brigands found it difficult to control a larger area due to their size. The heavy defense and patrols of King Moon also made the Base impenetrable for the Black Ax Brigands. So, they focused on raiding travelers and camps.Richie studied the convoy, their heavy guns made him ner
The Revenant Mutation Chapter 10: Wolf in Sheep's Clothing
By the time the sun rose the next day, Victor was already in an apron, standing behind a food counter in the canteen. People streamed in, and within an hour, the entire canteen was rowdy. Victor was so immersed in dishing out plates that he could hardly register the faces of the people he was serving. Even though everyone was in a queue, they still managed to make it as chaotic as possible. As he was about to collect someone’s plate, another plate appeared from nowhere, forced into his hand. Victor looked up to see a familiar face. ‘James,’ he growled in thought. Not wanting to cause a scene, he served James’ plate and passed it back before continuing with other servings. Another plate was forced into his hand, and Victor looked up to see James’ face again, this time with a smug smile."I already served you," Victor said with a frown."This one is for my bunkmate. Quickly serve up," James replied with an annoyed tone, as if Victor was asking an obvious question and was only trying to
The Revenant Mutation Chapter 11: It’s been four years?
Victor stood frozen to the spot like he had been struck by lightning, his brain working overtime. Hundreds of questions popped up in his mind. ‘How long has he known? How did he find out? Is he trying to test me? Is he going to kill me? Is this where I die?’ The more he thought of it, the more irrational his thoughts became.Seeing Victor’s silence and his gobsmacked look, Paul continued, “Don’t bother trying to deny it. When a person becomes infected, their bio-energy field carries a bit of their killing intent and bloodlust, the will to end their victims. While some infected have learnt how to hide their own intent, yours make you look like a glow stick to the trained eye. I could see it clearly in the cafeteria when James and his goons came to find trouble, and I could see it when you first approached our convoy.”

Paul stared at Victor in confusion, “What do you mean?”“I killed it. I didn’t run into your convoy Paul, I saw you guys attacked by the horde of zombies, so I challenged the Alpha Zombie to a fight and I won. Then I took a detour around to get ahead of your convoy and wait.”Paul stared at him with disbelief for a few moments before bursting out in laughter. Victor couldn’t understand why he would suddenly start laughing.Paul clapped and laughed more, “Good, just fantastic. You do have potential. I have been wondering why the zombies suddenly slowed down, long enough for us to escape.”“You’re not mad that I planned our meeting.”“Why should I be? You woke up to a brand new world, you probably went unconscious before the world went to shit, rejoining society would have been your only goal.”Victor became visibly relieved, it would be disappointing if Paul regarded his actions as untruthworthy. “How did you kill the zombie?”“I drove an iron rod through its skull, I still don’t know
