The Council was a group of important figures within King Moon. They were the base's Management. Their meeting hall had a table, with Uche sitting at the head of the table. Paul, Solomon and Richard sat one after the other on the left side.
On his right was Mrs. Titi, she was still in her apron, beside her was a man with dark fingernails, he was the leading mechanic Femi. A few more people sat at the table, each of them was a leading figure.
The hall was rowdy, apart from Paul and Uche who watched as the council members argued on the pros and cons of a large population, the others were engaged in the discussion.
“We don't even have enough to keep ourselves afloat. You want to bring in more people?! What will we eat then? Huh? Huh?!” A chubby man in his fifties argued with spittle flying everywhere.
“You will prefer to pump yourself with food rather than save more lives. Mojeed, are you not ashamed of yourself? We need the workforce”
“Basit is right, more workforce means more mouths to feed. We don't have enough to handle a larger population. If only we can get arable land, then perhaps we won't have to suffer as much. If our current situation keeps going, everyone will be forced to start eating eggs as food”, Mrs. Titi interjected.
“Exactly! We are already rationing food so much! How am I pumping myself with food? Ehn? Ehn?!” the chubby man, Basit challenged.
Solomon smacked the table, causing the others at the table to jump.
Uche cleared his throat, “It is true that we don't have enough food. We have a good poultry farm, but our crops are failing. If we bring in new people, we can increase our workforce, which can in turn help us cover more grounds with our raids. But… we can't survive on raiding.”
“What is wrong with reaching out to those small settlements? They can’t protect themselves, not against the Brigands. If we can call them to join us, we will be saving their lives and increasing our own numbers, this will strengthen us.”
"Our major issue right now is the fact that we will get refugees whether we like it or not. The brigands are very active nowadays, we can't risk not being prepared. We need to prepare,” Paul added.
“I say we send a message to them, informing them that we will be happy to have them. In the meantime, we can try to find new locations we can move our base to.” Richard advised.
Paul nodded, “There are five locations we can try, but there are powerful monsters in those locations or on our way to those locations.”
“So that won't work?” Uche asked.
“More workforce, means more people to join our raiding teams, we can increase our ability to fight off those monsters. But we still need food and clean water. We are running low on both.”
“Any ideas?”
Femi proposed, “The lower Niger Basin is a good spot to get clean water, but it’s too far away and there’s that accursed monster that has taken residence close to the Basin.”
Everyone shuddered when Femi said that, they could all remember the monster he was referring to. It was a scorpion that could contend with buildings in size, almost impervious to all weapons they had and it had made the base lose a number of people in the past. The earliest months of the base’s establishment was a learning period that many would never forget.
Some monsters aren't for humans to challenge!
“We could get some petrol to chase it off”, Paul thought out loud.
“That could work”, Solomon replied, rubbing his chin. “I remember that there is a depot close to the General Hospital. We can do a few runs and get a tanker, should be enough.”
“That's good. That's good.” Uche was satisfied. “Let's all work together to make this a success. I will put out some tasks for you to complete. Hopefully, we can solve our current problem.”

A few kilometers from King Moon Base,
Three armored vehicles drove down a desolate road in a convoy, a machine gun was mounted on top of each vehicle. The vehicles had been modified with metal railing and floodlights. On the left side of the two lane road was an abandoned supermarket.
From up ahead, five trucks were driving towards the convoy, when they reached the front of the supermarket, the trucks stopped and several men dressed in white shirts, black pants, a yellow tie, and headgear consisting of a yellow ribbon dropped out of the trucks. Two men walked out of the group, the first was a man with a scarred and rough face, making him look tough. His beard was full and he had a turban over his head. Rings with colorful stones adorned his fingers, and one of his canines was discolored, almost black. He spat out phlegm to the side as he walked. The other was a thin man, like a shriveled corpse, his white shirt was hanging on his frame. An ax hanging from his waist.
The convoy of armored vehicles stopped when they saw these men block their passage. The men stationed on the mounted machine guns aimed at the men in yellow.
Men in bulletproof vests and rifles dropped out of the armored vehicles, leading them was a young man with a sleek sword hanging from his waist, unlike the others armed with guns. He wore a dark blue cotton kaftan suit embroidered with gold patterns and long black boots.
His attire and confident strides made him look like the son of a rich family. He didn’t seem to be annoyed by the fact that their convoy had been stopped by a group of brigands, instead he curiously studied them.
A bald man in camo rushed to his side from among their group, “You don’t need to get involved, young boss. These brigands are Black Axe, their Capon is ruthless, just let our men take care of them.”
“If my men are going to fight, I should fight beside them, besides, it isn’t as if these lowly thieves can hurt me.”
On the other side, the rough looking man spoke to the thin man beside him, “What do you see, Olumide?”
From the dressing of the leader of the convoy, Olumide could tell that the young leader of the convoy was rich.
“A rich kid with a taste for foreign fashion, barely in his twenties. If he is the leader of this convoy, then we might be in luck, Capon”, Olumide replied with a slight smile and a little bow to his leader. “Shall we rob them, boss?”

The Revenant Mutation Chapter 10: Wolf in Sheep's Clothing
By the time the sun rose the next day, Victor was already in an apron, standing behind a food counter in the canteen. People streamed in, and within an hour, the entire canteen was rowdy. Victor was so immersed in dishing out plates that he could hardly register the faces of the people he was serving. Even though everyone was in a queue, they still managed to make it as chaotic as possible. As he was about to collect someone’s plate, another plate appeared from nowhere, forced into his hand. Victor looked up to see a familiar face. ‘James,’ he growled in thought. Not wanting to cause a scene, he served James’ plate and passed it back before continuing with other servings. Another plate was forced into his hand, and Victor looked up to see James’ face again, this time with a smug smile."I already served you," Victor said with a frown."This one is for my bunkmate. Quickly serve up," James replied with an annoyed tone, as if Victor was asking an obvious question and was only trying to
The Revenant Mutation Chapter 11: It’s been four years?
Victor stood frozen to the spot like he had been struck by lightning, his brain working overtime. Hundreds of questions popped up in his mind. ‘How long has he known? How did he find out? Is he trying to test me? Is he going to kill me? Is this where I die?’ The more he thought of it, the more irrational his thoughts became.Seeing Victor’s silence and his gobsmacked look, Paul continued, “Don’t bother trying to deny it. When a person becomes infected, their bio-energy field carries a bit of their killing intent and bloodlust, the will to end their victims. While some infected have learnt how to hide their own intent, yours make you look like a glow stick to the trained eye. I could see it clearly in the cafeteria when James and his goons came to find trouble, and I could see it when you first approached our convoy.”

Paul stared at Victor in confusion, “What do you mean?”“I killed it. I didn’t run into your convoy Paul, I saw you guys attacked by the horde of zombies, so I challenged the Alpha Zombie to a fight and I won. Then I took a detour around to get ahead of your convoy and wait.”Paul stared at him with disbelief for a few moments before bursting out in laughter. Victor couldn’t understand why he would suddenly start laughing.Paul clapped and laughed more, “Good, just fantastic. You do have potential. I have been wondering why the zombies suddenly slowed down, long enough for us to escape.”“You’re not mad that I planned our meeting.”“Why should I be? You woke up to a brand new world, you probably went unconscious before the world went to shit, rejoining society would have been your only goal.”Victor became visibly relieved, it would be disappointing if Paul regarded his actions as untruthworthy. “How did you kill the zombie?”“I drove an iron rod through its skull, I still don’t know
The Revenant Mutation Chapter 13: A New Job
Cars stopped outside the gate of King Moon Base, after identification they were allowed to enter. Each vehicle was filled with people, some of them were injured, others were shaking from the cold due to their tattered clothing. They all looked curiously at the new environment they had entered.Victor was walking towards the kitchen area when the vehicles passed by him, he spotted a familiar face of someone sitting by the window, unlike the others, this man was much dirtier and it was easy to see the exhaustion on his face. He simply leaned against the window with lethargy. The man looked like a beggar, which made it difficult to immediately recognize him, the bus sped past before Victor could get a better look. He didn't think he could possibly know someone in these parts, perhaps it was just a mistake. The buses kicked up a cloud of dust as they passed.
The Revenant Mutation Chapter 14: Why not beat them up?
Twenty minutes later,Paul found him sitting on the top floor of an uncompleted highrise building within the base. He was staring at the wildlands beyond the vehicle walls.“I’m sorry for putting you in that situation, it was too brazen of me”“I could have killed him, I’m not like you Paul, I have no control”“Nonsense…”, Paul walked up to him, “I have not seen anyone show the kind of restraint that you have. It is so easy for you to control the urge.”“How many Revenants have you met?”“Not many”“That’s not very reassuring”
The Revenant Mutation Chapter 15: Massacre at Night
The words struck a chord with him. As he calmed down to think, the sound of quickened heartbeats, and light thuds came to him. He traced the source of the sound to a shade behind a tree. With his night vision, he could see two legs peeking from behind the tree, someone was lying down there. Another set of legs were in between the first set of legs.Blood rushed to his face as he realized what was going on.Of the two heartbeats he originally heard, one was faint, while the other was vigorous.A man groaned from behind the tree. Moments later, a man emerged from the shade, zipping up his trousers. He was bare chested, with his shirt hanging on his shoulder. One of the brigands noticed, “Oi Kunle, are you done now?” Kunle fanned himself

In a corner of the camp, the young lady was crouched, shivering and sobbing uncontrollably.Paul walked to her, when she saw him come to her, she tried to scramble away, but her fear made it difficult to stand and run away.Paul knelt down on one knee and passed a handkerchief to her.She hesitated.“Don't worry, I won't hurt you. Take it.”She stretched her hand, and after hesitating for a moment, she finally collected it. Cleaning the tears that had wet her face.“What's your name?”“Helen” “Miss Helen, I am sorry for your loss. Are you okay?”She nodded, sniffling.“Good. Stay here, I'll be right back.”He stood and returned to Victor.“You just saved her from experiencing the same fate as the others.”Victor sniffled and cleaned his face with his sleeve. “That doesn't make this right”“It never is. The day you become okay with taking a human life, that is the day you stop being one at heart. If you feel adverse to killing, then do so only out of necessity.”“What if I don't want

If not for the immense pain threshold that he had, he would have blacked out from the multiple injuries. In fact, the only reason he had to crawl was because his legs had been crushed from the waist down and were still healing. He couldn’t walk, so he had no choice but to crawl with his only remaining arm. After several laborous crawling, he finally reached Paul.“Cap?!” He called out, his voice lacked any strength.
