Chapter Nineteen

While Nicolas was hard at work training to become a great man, his ex-fiancée, Clara, was busy celebrating the fact that he had been sent to prison. She was convinced that he had gotten what he deserved, and she felt no remorse for her role in his downfall. As far as she was concerned, he had brought this upon himself. She reveled in the attention she was receiving, and she felt vindicated in her actions.

As time went on, Clara's celebration began to turn sour. She found herself feeling empty and unsatisfied. She had thought that seeing Nicolas suffer would bring her some sense of peace, but instead she felt a deep sense of unhappiness.
