16. Night Of Drama.

Finally,

Jason stared at himself in the human length mirror in his bedroom. It was a big night and lots of influential people would be there, and he wanted to stand out. Luckily for him, Matthew was an expert at formal occasions like this one, so he ordered him a one of a kind tuxedo all the way from England.

To compliment his dressing, he went with a Rolex wristwatch, but it wasn't just any Rolex, it was a new model Cosmograph daytona. It was an 18 ct Everose gold with a sundust and bright black dial, with an oyster bracelet.

Matthew had always said, if one was going to do something, you might as well do it in a big way.

For his shoes, he went with a Tom Ford's custom loafers that were worth two million dollars.

According to Matthew, the brand explained that the reason their product was that expensive was because the leather for the footwear, which was highly durable, was manufactured using the world's most expensive alligator skin. This ensured that the leather used was of the highest quality possible. Thus, the high price.

There was nothing better and hotter than a man who looked good and smelled good too, and in the world of perfumes, there was nothing so luxurious, so truly special as Clive Christian’s Imperial Majesty, the world’s most expensive perfume.

Each perfume took the key focus notes from each pair in the original collection to create one beautiful perfume presented in a hand-cut crystal flacon and presented in a hand-crafted walnut burr box.

With creamy sandalwood at its base, the heart of this perfume mixes aromatic musk, warm clove, smooth vanilla and spiritedly vetiver. Bright top notes of bergamot and zesty Sicilian mandarin balanced perfectly with soothing ylang-ylang and sweet, honeyed neroli. Certified 100% perfume absolute Clive Christian Creation, perfect to make all the ladies swoon and the men jealous.

Finally, his medium length ash brown hair was held firmly in a neat man bun. Everything he had on was worth more than ten million dollars and it was worth it, because he looked like a supermodel.

Jordan looked like she was dressed to kill as well, with her ankle length dress. It was body fitting and it had an open slight at the side that went all the way to her hips.

Her short black hair was gelled to the back, outlining the oval shape of her face that was adorned with full makeup. She wore matching silver earrings and a necklace that sparkled under the evening sky.

Then to complete her outfit, black high heels and a black purse.

She was beautiful, there was no denying that. "Are you ready, sir?"

He had been ready for the past twenty minutes but he intentionally delayed because, if there was one thing he had learnt, it was that rich people never stuck to the time.

"Yes. Shall we?"

The drive from his apartment to the venue took an extra fifteen minutes so by the time they arrived, it was already forty five minutes past six.

The Deluxe Dance had numerous meanings to each and everyone who attended. To Jordan, it was an opportunity to get back at Phil for whatever he might have done to her.

To most, it was a chance to expand their business and explore other business opportunities. To make tangible connections that could aid in their growth and that if their business.

But to him, the Deluxe Dance was many things. It was a chance for him to get to know his father's allies that would support him. A chance to get to know all his possible enemies. A chance to meet new people that would be useful to he and his company.

Then most importantly, a chance to get back at Phil.

"Sir, we're here." Jordan announced and that was when he noticed that the car had stopped.

"Right. Jordan," she turned to face him, and he could tell that she was shocked that he addressed with her first name. "When we get in there, I don't want you to call me sir, or Mr Decker."

"S-sir…?"

"Yes. For the rest of the night, you have to call me Jason."

"Sir?"

"I'll call you Jordan for the night, and you call me Jason. Are we clear?"

"Yes, Mr Decker."

"Jordan," he corrected with a smile.

"Sorry, yes Jason."

"Thank you." The driver showed up at the window and announced that it was time for them to go in. Apparently they were on the VIP list, the one thing Matthew had forgotten to tell him. "Thank you, Maurice."

He opened the door and bowed as he alighted with Jordan. "I'll be here if you need me."

"Nonsense. You can go anywhere you want, if we do need you, then we'll call."

"All right sir."

When they walked in, the first person Jason noticed was Lauren. She looked very beautiful as well. She was wearing a straight black dress that stopped above her knees. It was easy to tell that her choice of outfit was Phil's idea because Lauren hated the color black, and she always preferred long dresses over short ones.

For a moment their eyes locked, and he saw that she looked a bit…sad. Throughout their marriage, Lauren had never looked like that before, and if she did, he was never the cause, rather he would be the one to cheer her up. She was probably experiencing the saying that the rich also cry. And not all that glittered was gold.

He shifted his gaze to the man standing next to her and smiled at his frowning face. He had brought Jordan as his date to spite Phil, not knowing that Lauren would be with him. But if he could make her jealous as well, then so be it.

He put his hand at her back and led Jordan further into the party. "Mr--uh Jason, this is Mr Gilgamesh, he is a close friend of your grandfather." She said, as they approached a chubby old man.

The old man extended his hand and Jason took it and bowed slightly as a sign of respect. "It is a pleasure to meet you sir, and I look forward to working with you."

"The pleasure is all mine, my boy. Your grandfather is like a brother to me so I want you to consider me as your family."

"Very well sir." Jason noted that the man had a hint of accent when he spoke, probably mexican or spanish.

"How is the old man?" He asked as he sipped he wine.

"He traveled abroad for treatment."

"Alright, I'll try to get in touch with him."

"Good to know."

Just like that, Jordan introduced him to several old men and women who used to work with family and just half way through the ceremony, Jason had met with almost all the powerful people in the city and even from other countries.

"Well well well, look who it is, little ol' Jason."

"Uh that's Mr Decker to you, Mr Kings." Lauren's father scoffed at the way he addressed him.

While he was married to Lauren, he always called him father, even though the man never liked it.

"Lauren, why didn't you tell me your husband was going to be here?"

Jason hadn't noticed Lauren until he called her name. She showed up next to him with Phil flanking her like a bodyguard. "I didn't know either, father."

Jordan leaned closer and whispered to his ear. "This is Mr James Kings, he's the Executive Director of the Sterling Medical Groups."

"You don't say." Jason smiled as a smirk formed on his face. So his father in law worked under him, getting his revenge was just made easier for him.

"Jordan what to you think–"

"If I recall correctly Mr Garcia, I told you not to address her so casually." Jason corrected, earning a scowl from Phil.

"This doesn't concern you peasant!" He shot at him.

"Jordan here happens to be my date, so I think it does concern me." When he called her his date, he noticed the pained look that was on Lauren's face but he ignored it.

Listen here you little–"

"Hey baby, you left me over there for too long." Jason watched with amusement as a slender lady walked towards them. He knew she wasn't talking to him so the baby she was referring to could either be his father in law, or Phil. And judging by the uncomfortable look he had on his face, Jason knew his father in law was her baby.

His suspicions were confirmed when she put her arms around the man who could only hug her awkwardly.

"Father, who is she?" Lauren questioned with a frown.

"Yeah Father, who is she?" Jason was enjoying the drama that was unfolding in his presence. "oh just wait till Mabel finds out this is the reason you've been refusing to bring her here."

"How dare you address my wife by her first name?!"

"You just gave me the room to disrespect her and you, with this improper behavior of yours."

"Mr Decker, would you come here for a while please? There's a French financier you just have to meet." Mr Gilgamesh called out, standing next to the foreign man.

"Just a minute." He replied and turned back to his former family. "Well, if you'll excuse me." He linked his arm with Jordan and together they walked away from the others.

~•~><~•~

The ceremony was still going on and Jason was getting exhausted. He sat in the VIP area but chose a seat where he could monitor Phil and Lauren.

All through the night, Erika had been texting him to ask how things were going and he almost felt bad for not taking her.

The last time they met, he had promised himself to take a break from her, at least until he was fully settled in his position but it was a harder task than he thought it would be.

Gilgamesh had invited him to a meeting to discuss their future as business partners and that was a good thing. The more people he met, the more connected he would get.

"Jason?"

He sat up straight when he heard his name but after looking around for a second, he didn't seem to notice any familiar face.

"Jason, over here."

He traced the location of the voice and was surprised to find Lauren's aunt, Celia, smiling and waving at him. He smiled too and went over to her. She was the only one who accepted him and treated him like a human being. "Aunt Celia, it's so good to see you again."

"I was about to say the same thing. What are you doing here?" She sounded genuinely surprised and he couldn't blame her. The last time they met, he was ragged poor.

"I got a job… at Decker Industries." He let the company name sink in, before he added. "Right, you have a company as well, right?"

"Yes, our father's company."

By our, she meant her and Lauren's mother. It was really hard to believe that both of them were sisters. "I almost forgot about that."

"I heard you and Lauren got divorced, what happened? You two seemed so happy together."

"Didn't she tell you?"

"She said it didn't work out. What really happened?"

"Well aunt Celia, as you know, I didn't have much. And she found someone who could offer her more than I could, so…you know the rest."

"Lauren did that?! I can't believe it! No wonder, so that was the guy with her."

"Yes."

"Isn't he the one who got on your company's blacklist?"

"He is," Jason had hoped that hearing such a news would cause Lauren to kick him out of her life but she didn't. Was she really in love with him?

But if she was, why did she look so sad?

"Jason, did you hear me?"

"What?"

"I said, maybe you could put in a good word about me to your boss, so–"

"Of course. You know what, let me have your card so I'll give you a call when something comes up."

"Really?"

"Of course." She was the only ally he had when he had nothing, so if he could do anything to help her, he wouldn't hesitate. Plus, making her more successful would make Mabel mad with rage and jealousy, and that would be good news to him.

The anchor went up to the stage and announced that it was time to announce the winner of the year and everyone's attention was turned to him.

Moment of truth.
