There really was nothing amusing about the loss of someone's personal space.

Reaching their destination, Ryan practically threw himself inside the short limo that was waiting for him. He never felt so glad to be inside a car.

"We tried our best to keep them away, sir. But as you can see, it is a hard work." Thomas said as he sat beside the driver.

Ryan slumped on the back seat, murmuring, "Could be worse." He tried his best to avoid looking out the darkened windows. "I probably woud have punch someone if I was here by myself."

Sighing, Ryan watched the array of people slowly disappear as the car began to move forward. He really was crazy if he thought he'd ask Violet to come with him, too. Sure, she could handle it more elegantly, what with her being used to being in the light. But that would still cost her extra stress.

All in all, the drive to the hotel was smooth, and there were no more reporters waiting for them.

Ryan parted away with Thomas and the others, choosing to have some p

The clock showed 09.34, but nobody cared about that.Moon bright, hanging high above the skyscrapers of New York, lighting the rooftop restaurant in a soft glow. The night air sent a chill down their spine, reminding them that fall was near. Colorful disco lights here and there, clashing softly against blue and pink drinks on their hands. Music blared, sending a slow rhythm of oldies jazz. However, nobody also paid attention to any of that.Particularly, for Marissa.Tonight, this rooftop restaurant was fully reserved to host a party for her friend’s 35th marriage anniversary. The helicopter ascended to the night sky, leaving Ryan and Violet behind. Now, all eyes of the guests in the rooftop restaurant reserved for a 35th marriage anniversary party turned to them. Curious, as a hundred questions hang in the air. They didn’t ask, not specifically, not when Violet looked like an angry volcano ready to burst into explosion.A pair of blue eyes narrowed into a glare, sharp and cold, unlike the heated rage bubbling inside of her. Violet’s steps were sure, heavy with the decision she had to make on the spot. Her family’s well-being was at stake. The rooftop restaurant was in a static hectic if that was even a word. All the guests’ eyes were on both of the Crowne couples, much to the host’s annoyance. However, no one could resist this juicy piece of gossip that surely will rock the world tonight. Or at least the social circle they were in. “Look, my pretty lady,” Rhome said, then cursed himself when he realized what he had just said, “I mean, Marissa,” he cleared his throat, “I know that you have adult children already, I just don’t know that you are still in a marriage with your husband.” “Well, not for long.” “Oh, that’s a relief,” Rhome let out the breath he held back. But unlike him, the reaction from Marissa’s daughter was far worse. Slamming her hand on the dining table, Violet exclaimed, “You what?!” Sighing, Ryan focused on the heated conversation played before his eyes again. “Say that again, Mom!” Marissa didn’t back down. He just shrugged, wondering if discussing about her mother's affair with a stranger present near them was right. They were in a taxi. The driver was old, with grey hair and thick eyeglasses. But that didn't mean he had a hearing impaired. After all, he was still carefully driving at a steady speed."What? Why are you shrugging?" Violet pressed further, wanting to get to the bottom of this."You really want to talk about your mother now?""Yes, is that even a question?"They heard a small laugh from the driver. "Oh, please don't mind me. I will never talk about it to anyone."Violet raised one of her eyebrows, "Hear that? So, what?"He sighed, slumping on his seat. He really preferred not to talk about it now, but who was he to speak?"Okay," Ryan breathed out, "What do you want to do now?""I honestly don't know."He rolled his brown

  • 151. Fight Against Luck

Violet was ready to fight him. She had trained in several martial arts and mastered them for self-defense against harmful men like him. Rendering Edric useless was an easy task. She had almost done that months ago, when he was still playing with his old dog. Come to think of it, where was that old dog of his again? Violet’s blue eyes were focused as she shifted into a defensive stance, her lithe frame ready for action. On the other hand, Edric appeared remarkably nonchalant, sitting at a table with a book and a wide grin on his face as if he knew something Violet didn’t. The first move came from the infamous actress. Her movements were swift and precise, as she had aimed a roundhouse kick at Edric’s head. The red dress with high open slit at her tight created a beautiful motion picture, if one were to enjoy it. Sadly, the circumstance was not fit for such approval. However, just as Violet’s foot was about to connect with Edric’s head, a stack of books toppled over, and he stumble

"Pick it up," Edric haughtily repeated. Violet couldn't believe what she had done - even if he did deserve it. Her reputation was already in the mud lately, so it wasn’t her concern. She just didn’t believe that she punched Edric because of Ryan, the fucking scum. To hell with people still watching her nude scenes. She had made that choice in her younger days, so she didn’t want to regret it right now. However, to insult and humiliate Ryan for having such wife, crossed her line. Oh, how her world had turned upside down because of him. Not responding fast enough for his liking, as she stood frozen in place, he roughly grabbed her arm and nearly pushed her towards the floor before Ryan had cut in between them. "Don't you ever touch her again," Ryan furiously spat. "You'll fucking regret it." Before Edric could retort, the Head Butler of the Ashford family, Jorge, wedged between them, gently pushing them back by the shou

He had been instructed to chauffeur them around Seattle today to find appropriate attire for the company's black tie fundraiser tonight.Although they were being forced to attend, Ryan surprised himself by enjoying their time together shopping for the event. Maybe it was because he got to see Violet try on dresses, or maybe it was just nice to do something normal. Before they return to the penthouse, Violet wants him to buy her a car. She would never ask him for such a thing, because even with all the wealth he had acquired, Violet could afford a car herself. Besides, she was too proud to ask for one. So, when she did ask him, Ryan easily agreed, and they bought one. Too bad, Violet didn’t let him see what the car she bought either, saying it was a surprise for him. Opening the door, he said, "Not necessary. Just stay here and wait for us.""But-"Slamming the door shut, he reached into the inside of his suit jacket and pulled out a pair of sunglasses.
