For a moment William and Clara were completely dumbfounded by the explosion, both for different reasons, Clara was surprised that anyone would have the capabilities and guts to do something like that; William, on the other hand, was surprised that he did not feel any disruption in the flow of mana, either meaning that the perpetrator used a profound technique to hide their spell or that the explosion was all caused by non-magical components.

It only took a few seconds for the school grounds around the main building to turn into complete chaos, with students and faculty both running around like headless chickens. The general option is that if someone can blow up the main school building, they could most likely do the same to other buildings as well.

Once everyone came to that conclusion it took mere seconds for a majority of the people present to make a mad dash for the exit of the campus which quickly became a natural chokepoint that made everyone more and more nervous.

Upon seeing the now corpse of her friend Clara immediately started crying and fell to her knees, as a part vampire she was much more desensitized to blood than a normal teenage girl but it was an entirely different matter if it is someone you know well and had a good relationship. In opposition to her reaction, William simply closed his eyes and sucked in a cold breath of air, with his experience and knowledge the sight of death did not do much for him, especially since he never actually knew her. After a few seconds his eyes filled with determination, he would go all out to make sure she survived this, not only because of the certainty of the reward but to test his current abilities. Unlike Clara he could see that she had only died a very short time ago, in fact, her spirit was still in the process of dissipating which meant that her soul was still present in the mortal body. Souls were a very advanced topic in the world of magic, in fact as far as William knew there was nobod

Sitting in a wide courtyard filled with a natural beauty that transcends common sense was a middle-aged man sitting cross-legged on the edge of a crystal clear stream that ran throughout the garden. The man in question was dressed in luxurious clothes that looked to be worth their weight in gold if not more. Set in front of the man was a glossy blue book that was striking for one reason, the pure white text on the cover was shining brightly while absorbing light and mana from the surrounding area. As an onlooker, one could tell instantly that there was something supernatural about the book and the man sat before it. As time slowly passed the man's expression kept getting more and more strained to the point that it looked like he just lost a long-fought battle on the toilet against the previous meal's baked beans and spicy chicken. Just as his expression seemed to be reaching a breaking point there was suddenly a loud sound as a young woman who appeared to be in her late 20s ra

"Well, that's where stuff gets very complicated Lord Duke." "What do you mean it gets complicated? Countess it seems like this entire situation is very strange, can you please explain from the beginning while we make our way to the place my daughter is?" "Of course Lord Duke, come with me, we have a special carriage prepared right outside the station." Following her and the knight, Walter and Lucy come before a beautiful pure white carriage that looked completely out of place outside the more industrial-looking train station and cityscape around them. The extravagant carriage on the side of the road looked akin to someone wearing a tuxedo to the local farmers' market. Seemingly unaware of how out of place they looked the three of them went inside while the knights created a protective formation to ensure its safety on the journey to their destination. As the horses began moving forward everyone was settled inside and the old woman began speaking. "It all started a few hours a

"Cor illuminatum est" When William spoke those words everyone listening sucked in a cold breath of air, clearly what he was asking for was not ordinary, to make a countess and duke react so strongly told everything one needed to know. Seeing them freeze William continued. "More commonly known as "The Heart of the Enlightened One," it is an alchemical miracle that production rarely succeeds and would normally cost a fortune. The main use of it is to reinforce the user's heart and enhance their entire cardiovascular system, this can enhance their mana capacity, mana draw rate, and increase the swiftness of spell casting by between 20-30%." Hearing such a detailed explanation of the item was even more stunning than this boy knowing its existence, to begin with. As a commoner mage, Lucy had only even heard the name twice, let alone known its effects, yet now this normal academy student seems to know everything about it. Finally reacting Walter spoke. "Young man that is impossible, a

  • The Ridiculous Life of the Reborn Mage   What does being an aide entail?

After making a deal with Duke Walter Goldcrest William sat down in a chair in Sarah's room and released an exhausted sigh, that entire discussion he was on the edge of collapsing where he stood. He was completely drained of mana and it would take him a longer than average time to regenerate it to a normal level. When someone is regaining mana there is almost always a small amount of mana in the body the user can use to jumpstart the absorption process of taking mana in, refining it, and storing it; however since he has zero mana it will take him days to regain it unless of course you were rich and could afford expensive tonics to make that instant. Let's just say that neither the countess nor the duke was going to pay for him to enjoy those luxuries for free, let alone the temple giving them away for free to a guy who was only there, to begin with, to rest after mana exhaustion. You are awake? Good for you no leave, that is what they would say if he was not associated with Sarah n

  • The Ridiculous Life of the Reborn Mage   Starweave City

Since Sarah was originally injured a week had passed and it was finally time to leave the temple as a now fully healed person once again, from being dead to perfectly healthy in a week in a strange turn of events. In the past week not much had happened other than William slowly regaining mana and Sarah slowly healing her diminished spirit and slowly regaining mana, now that the only issue was low levels of mana which don't have any negative effects unless one is spellcasting, it was time to leave Saulon and go to where Sarah would be living after the academy. During this time William got a much better understanding of what the job of her aide actually was, and it was surprisingly little. To put it simply, he did not have the responsibility of a normal aide because he was in no way qualified to be one, meaning that his job was essentially just to hang out with her and do stuff with her. Most people would think this sounds like a dream job but in reality, William was not excited.

  • The Ridiculous Life of the Reborn Mage   Trade Skills

After traveling for almost an hour from the train station Sarah and William finally arrived outside a large and beautiful villa. Made from stone and timber, its design highlights skilled craftsmanship. The interiors featured artisanal furniture, antique rugs, and large fireplaces, ensuring a warm and inviting atmosphere. Tall windows with wooden shutters fill rooms with natural light, while the simplistic design encourages simple living. Outside, a sprawling garden blooms with a riot of flowers and fruit trees, and a large magical pond filled the backyard with clear water which gave off faint magical fluctuations. Quickly after arriving, William inspected the new house under scrutiny, it was rather simplistic in design but that was the beauty of it, it was not grand like a castle or large family manor but took up a large amount of land for a large city like Starweave. A large part of the property was the main house where the residents would eat, sleep, and interact with each other.

After discussing various trade skills for a short while Sarah and William returned to the main house where various servants came at a specified time to cook their dinner and clear the villa. After a short dinner without anything happening, they both went to bed where William infused his tome with mana before going to bed and after waking up. He kept some mana for emergencies so that his recovery rate was not inhibited but the mana-related functions of the human body act similarly to muscles in that using and training them will over time strengthen them to a certain degree. After doing that he went to the alchemy building which looked like a cross between a brewery and a greenhouse, after taking inventory and checking the equipment more in detail, he waited for Sarah to arrive for the alchemy lesson they agreed he would give her the day before. Truth be told, he was somewhat looking forward to teaching her alchemy, in his past life his primary trade skill was alchemy but because

Recovering quickly, Sarah looked at her from a distance. "Did you really just say that to someone the first time you laid eyes on them?" Seeing Sarah for the first time, she looked at her without any emotion. "Is he from your family? Well, I need him to spend the night getting me pregnant today; if he is promised to someone else, I can compensate your family for taking him." "May I ask who the person who wants to have a child with me is?" Turning to look at him, the woman revealed a small smile. "My name is Stephany Windstorm; I was invited here by Princess Natalia; she and I are good friends." "And you want to have a child with me; why?" The following day, William woke up with the sun high in the sky and let out a groggy yawn, the events of the night and morning before playing out in his mind. Thinking about his overflowing passion, he became slightly embarrassed before looking to the side to see Sarah still sleeping; she looked beautiful under the sheets and peaceful. William had not taken any other potions in this life, so the Enchanter's Ember essence he had taken the past few days had taken effect, and his mana sensitivity improved somewhat. He didn't want to disturb her, so he injected much mana into the Tome of Arcana. Feeling the frosty feeling of mana being siphoned out of him at a rapid rate, William was left marveling at the time. He was sure it was an item with many secrets. After that, William went and had lunch prepared by the staff. He liked the way the villa was set up. The staff only came to deliver meals and clean them up, waiting for the people living there to go out to enter and leave the house

As mana continued to swirl around the dining table, creating a stationary tornado of invisible might, William could feel the world around him changing from a charcoal sketch to a vibrant watercolor. Everything seemed more substantial, and the world became more lively. As his perception changed, his senses were bombarded with feelings of euphoria more intense than any sexual experience possible, the hair on his body brushing against his clothing sending shocks through his body as he was lost in a sea of unprecedented pleasure. After nearly 10 minutes, the vortex of mana finally abated as he adjusted to the changes in perception. As he opened his eyes, he could see the dining room mostly intact, with small objects near him pushed away and the dining table pushed a few inches. Around 6 feet away from him, Sarah stood there staring at him, waiting for the phenomenon to end. When he spotted her, he fully realized the extent to which his vision had changed. Everyone has their own Motivation

William stood up the following day, gazing out the large window of the master bedroom, and let out a turbid breath. Looking back at the bed, he saw Sarah sleeping blissfully and a couple of empty potion flasks on the bedside table. Do many young men not dream of such a sight? When boys begin the path to power, many boys have a ridiculous goal of having many beautiful lovers who will unconditionally love them. In reality, William was similar in his younger years; growing up in a non-magical middle-class family, he would often dream of charming a princess, spending the rest of his life in bliss within some elegant palace, and having many children. Looking back at the beginning of his previous life, he couldn't help but be emotional; what would he of that time think if he saw the scene of the daughter of a duke begging for me? Well.... It's probably best he didn't see that. Then his mind went to the potion flasks; they had once contained Enchanter's Ember Essence; this potion dr

Thinking about this, Caspian slightly smiled when thinking about his current exploration; although the time commitment might be a little long, at least a month, maybe two or three months if it went long, he would earn as much as he wo

    Thoroughly Provoked

    On the carriage ride back to the villa they were living in, Sarah was feeling highly peeved. People without much experience in noble circles might miss it, but she was well aware that Princess Natalia was continuously disrespecting and attempting to provoke her. From the moment she invited herself to join their private dinner until the end, the princess talked down to her many times and openly flaunted her wealth like a law-class businessman who had just closed their first big deal. If only their statuses were more similar, she would have been able to respond with righteous indignation; unfortunately, she was a princess of an empire while she was merely the daughter of a duke coming from a small country in the surrounding area. In truth, without her own academic and magical success, Natalia would definitely not care about someone like her, but since she took notice and seemed to acknowledge her as some sort of rival, she acted so rudely. Thinking about this, Sarah was enraged;

"I am sorry to interrupt, but are you Sarah Goldcrest by chance?" Hearing the soft female voice who approached their table, William turned his attention to the young woman next to their table. After a cursory glance, anyone could tell she was a rare beauty, with dark gray hair flowing down to her low back and pitch-black eyes that seemed to hide a dark secret. Seeing her arrive, Sarah stood up to greet her. "Good evening, Your Majesty; I am Sarah Goldcrest; it is an honor to meet you." It did not matter what number of princess she was. Royalty had to be treated a certain way. "It is good to meet you as well; who might this gentleman be?" "Hello, your majesty. My name is William Sterling; it is a pleasure to meet you." Humans can be bizarre creatures, changing between kindness and cruelty at the drop of a hat, pursuing a noble cause to engaging in debauchery on the same night. People often create suffering where it does not exist and find happiness in the depths of despair; only with something to compare to can people truly experience the vivacities of life. It did not even take until their main course arrived before William and Sarah experienced the strangeness of humanity. A Late Lunch or an Early Dinner?

After leaving the alchemy guild, William and Sarah returned to the carriage that had brought them originally. It was situated less than a hundred meters away, and the coachman, an older gentleman named Oliver, was waiting for them. William had talked with him a few times and understood that he was Sarah's primary guard while living outside the country and was a very competent mage. Although he did not live in the villa with them, he would accompany them whenever they left for protection. As they got into the carriage, Sarah turned to William. "We should go to a nice restaurant to celebrate doing so well. Do you have anywhere you would like to go?" Hearing her question, William couldn't help but feel a little weird being treated like this but didn't overthink it.
