Chapter 142: Absence

Derek stopped his car in front of Sophia's apartment.

Making his way up the steps, he noted that the corridor was looking clean and kept which signaled that she had been around.

"Sophia?" He knocked quietly on the door.

No response.

Derek tried again, before punching in her pass-code. She had let him know the digits of her pass-code the last time he visited.

"Sophia? Are you in?" He called into the empty sitting room.

Was she in the bedroom?

That was odd. Sophia would have come running the moment she heard his voice at the door.

To be sure, Derek made sure to check the bedroom, the kitchen, and even the storage.

Confirmed. She wasn't at home.

He returned and glanced around the state of the bedroom. It was obvious she was here this morning.

He didn't want to guess so he placed a call to Barnes, the guard he allocated to watch over her. "When last did you see Miss Sophia?"

"Last night, I followed her to the mall on the next street when she cornered me and told me to leave her
