Alex stormed out of the house he had known for two years now. He had nowhere else to go. He walked for a couple of streets and sat on a street bench to recollect how he would get his life back on track after he lost everything. He looked through his phone to see if he had anyone he would call but none popped up.
Just when he thought it was all over, a car stopped and grabbed him. His grabbers turned out to have been sent by Carla and Dawson.
"What is the meaning of this? Who are you, people, who sent you!?" One of the thugs who looked like the leader came up to Alex.
"Dawson sent us, he gave us the go-ahead to do whatever we wanted with you, asshole," Said the leader sarcastically.
"What more do they want from me? They have already taken everything away!?" Alex yelled furiously at them in an attempt to show he wasn't fazed by them.
Just then a few more thugs came around holding bats in their hands.
"What do you want from me!?" Alex asked again, sounding tough. But they just ignored him. They circled him, preventing him from running.
"This will teach you not to mess with the elites." One of the thugs said as he raised the bat and hit Alex in his head. Alex fell to the ground and that was when he saw Carla smiling at him, a completely different person from the one he fell in love with. He received the beating of his life while Carla just stood and watched with folded arms.
Dawson walked up to Alex smiling wryly, grabbing Alex's hair tightly and raising his face to himself. "This is what you get for raising your filthy hands to hit me. This will teach you not to disrespect men like me". He gestured to the thugs to continue.
Carla gave Alex one last look and left together with Dawson for the thugs to finish their job. It was at that moment that Alex received the worst beating of his life. They took his body and dumped him in the alley and left him for dead when they were done with him.

It was early morning, the weather was cloudy. Emma was rushing to get to her workplace so as not to miss her morning shift before the rain started. She decided to take a shortcut through the alley. It wasn't bright enough yet as it was early morning and the weather was dull. She was a bit scared.
"Please, Please, it's just a lonely path. You watch too many serial documentaries, Emma" She muttered to herself and walked at a fast pace. As she was almost close to the street, her eyes caught something.
"Just ignore Emma and pretend it was nothing. This is how people die in movies Emma'' She thought to herself but her curiosity wouldn't let her. She walked up to what she saw and discovered Alex's barely alive body. Emma let out a scream that she jumped without knowing.
"Oh my God, Oh Lord. That's a body. Please be alive, Please be alive." Emma said in a loop. Emma had a compassionate heart and bent closer to check the pulse and found out he still had one.
Emma quickly dropped her bag, She took her phone to try and call 911 but her hand was held by Alex hardly breathing. Alex could see a figure but was too weak to make out words.
Somehow, she managed to drag Alex's almost lifeless body to the hospital where she worked as a janitor.
"Help me! Please Help me! She yelled out as she got close to the hospital entrance.
"I need your help!" Emma said, gasping for breath. Two security men ran to Emma immediately they saw her, to aid her with Alex's unconscious body. Alex was admitted into the emergency ward and he fell into a coma.
"You have to deposit $3,000 Emma before any major treatment can be carried out. You know this hospital is run by a private body and we need this money to survive considering the fact that we are located in the slums." The doctor said to Emma sternly.
Emma was left wondering where she would get such an amount of money. She worked as a janitor and her six months' penny salary combined won't even cover that. Just when she was pondering on what she had gotten herself into, a car approached her and two gentlemen dressed in the finest suits got down and walked up to her.
"We are here for Sir. Alexander. We have been searching for him for quite some time and we were directed to this hospital from our research." They said to Emma. She was shocked beyond measure and wondered how important the person she had saved was.
It turned out that Alexander was the heir to The Hugh Conglomerates, the wealthiest family in the country. They owned all the luxurious properties in the country. He was transferred to the best hospital for only the elite in the country immediately.
"How long is he going to be in a coma?" Asked Barnabe, one of the gentlemen with a worried look.
"It could be in a few days or a week or even a month. Except for the stab wound and a few broken ribs, most of his wounds are superficial" The doctor had politely told the gentlemen.
"He's awake. Quick get them here!" Alex let out a groan right while the doctor was still speaking.
"Welcome back Sir. Alexander, you had us worried. I'm glad we found you just at the right time." Said the older-looking gentleman. Alex was still trying to recollect his environment and remember what had happened to him.
"Where am I? What happened? How did I get here?" Alex asked these questions trying to remember how he got there straining to lift himself. The nurse who came in supported him by helping him in sitting and resting his back on the pillow.
"Who are you people? And why are you calling me Sir? I'm not a Sir." He asked with curiosity written all over his face. He had never seen these men in his life before. He shifted his gaze from the men to the doctor in a loop.
One of the men rose from his seat and walked closer to Alex. His dress could only be that of someone with wealth.
"I know you don't know us, Sir. Alexander, but my...my name is Barnabe, and the young man over there is Lucas Graham." He introduced himself and pointed to Lucas.
"We were sent by your grand-aunt Eleanor Hugh to bring you home." Alex was stunned at the answer the stranger gave.
"I'm what!? Excuse me. Sir Alexander? Who are you referring to? Asked Alex out of curiosity. He was flabbergasted.
"I am no Sir" He chuckled weakly to himself.
"And what do you mean my grand aunt? I don't have one, I have never had any. "Grandaunt!?"
He said in astonishment.
Alex was extremely shocked at what was being said to him. He looked at the doctor "Is it possible I got brain trauma from the beating I got?" He asked the doctor, chuckling softly."No Sir. We did all the scans and aside from your superficial wounds and two broken ribs, nothing else is wrong with you. You are in perfect health." The doctor assured Alex."Then, please explain to me why these two strangers are saying I have an aunt and that they have come to bring me home," Alex asked the doctor looking at him curiously. The doctor lets out a heavy sigh. "Please, he still needs plenty of rest. So make sure he gets that" The doctor said to the two men and walked out.Barnabe took Alex's hand "I know this doesn't feel real and it looks unbelievable, but you are the heir to the Hugh Conglomerates. We have been searching for you for quite some time now. Your aunt Eleanor has been looking for you. She sent us to bring you home to your rightful place."Alex chuckled softly at them. "You guys
"Hello," said a smiling Emma stepping into Alex's room with Lucas holding the door ajar for her."I'm so happy that you are safe and okay now. I thought you wouldn't survive when I found you. I was so scared!" Emma walked up closer to Alex to hug him but he was taken aback."This is Emma Sir, you asked that she be found and brought to you," Lucas said to Alex, noticing his reaction. "I found her through her co-workers".Alex took Emma's hand and held tight to it. "Thank you for saving my life. You didn't have a reason to but you did despite being terrified. But thank you" Alex said to Emma. She gave out a fulfilling smile to Alex hugging him again. "I'm happy I could do that for you. It wasn't a big deal.""It was a really big deal. You saved me even when you didn't have to. I'm sorry that they decided the best way to repay you was money." Alex said to Emma still holding onto her hand."It's okay. I didn't do it for money. I didn't even know you were Alexander Hugh when I saved you.
Alex refused to leave and it caused more uproar among the guests. "Just leave and save yourself all this embarrassment." One said. "I'm sure he just got out of the mental hospital. Or even an ex-convict." Another said. "We need to involve the police since he isn't leaving calmly. Who knows what plans he has in his mind." Said a guest who was closest to Alex. "I'm not a thief or an ex-convict, I'm Alexander Hugh and Eleanor is my aunt." Alex's fists were clenched and he was mad with fury. "What's going on here!" Said a masculine voice making everyone in the lobby turn in the direction of the voice. Alex, the receptionist, and the guests turned to see the hotel manager walking towards them with a frown on his face. "Why is there unrest in my hotel lobby?" "Oh thank heavens. I'm so relieved you are here Sir." The receptionist said. "That wasn't the answer to the question I asked. The manager said harshly to her. "Oh, sorry Sir. It's this low life that's causing the disturbances,
Alex followed his aunt and Barnabe, and they led him to an elevator. Barnabe pressed the button that had "Hugh Penthouse" italicized on it. The elevator led them to the penthouse. Alex stepped in with them. The penthouse had huge glass windows that looked over the whole city. It was serene. It was a spacious living room with high-end furniture. The furniture was of the finest quality. The luxurious space was decorated with the finest-grade gray curtains hanging from the ceiling to the floor. There was a black grand piano in the space and lots of art."Please sit here sir." Barnabe gestured to Alex to sit on the fine sofa as he was supporting his aunt to sit too."I'm not that old, Barnabe. I think I can manage to sit down by myself. Thank you" Barnabe and leaves her."Why didn't you wait at the hospital? We could have come to pick you up." Asked his aunt."I was tired of being cooped up in there." Alex stood up and walked to take in the view from his penthouse."That's true. But, asid
Alex saw his aunt's sudden happiness and wondered what was the reason."What is it? Asked a curious Alex."That was the captain. The helicopter is ready at the helipad to take us to your house." She said joyfully. Barnabe helped her up from the couch she sat on."We have a helipad, Wow! Okay. I'm ready." He supported his aunt to walk while Barnabe took all the files along. They took the elevator to the roof and took the helicopter. It was the first time Alex had ever been on one. He could see the whole of the city. It looked so beautiful from up there. Twenty minutes later, they landed in the most exquisite mansion Alex had ever seen. Alex got down and saw the mansion that stood before him. It was grand and imposing with greeneries encircling it. It had a classical architectural style, with detailed and ornate carvings and moldings. He was awed by what he saw.Alex saw an entourage waiting for him outside the large entrance of the mansion. They were dressed in specific uniforms. "Proba
Darren stopped at a park because he was instructed by Alex to do so. They got down and got food from the food truck that was packed close to the park. Darren stood close to the car with his eyes fixed on them.Alex gawked at Emma as she munched on the hot dog they had gotten."What? Why are you staring at me like that?" She asked as soon as she noticed Alex staring at her."Can I tell you the truth?" Alex asked with seriousness on his face."Sure! What is it?" Asked Emma as she dropped the remaining hotdog on the paper towel."I didn't want to live anymore that morning you saved me. I was ready to die because I had nothing else to live for. I had everything taken away from me by someone who meant everything to me. I thought life didn't want me anymore. But you came out of nowhere and helped me. And I'm grateful that you did. I owe you my life." He said calmly."You don't owe me anything. I helped you because it was the right thing to do at that moment. I was scared shitless but I'm hap
Mr Carson stormed out of the meeting in anger. He never expected that Mr Williams had an heir tucked away somewhere waiting to emerge one day. He left the meeting and a few of his friends who were also board members, who shared his opinion on the matter, left with him. Mr Graham sighed heavily. "Well, that's that. He looked at Eleanor and back to the remaining board members. "Mr. Cason is right in a way Mr Graham, you can't just spring this on us. Why wasn't this read or made known the first time the will was read? This is a huge responsibility and money and shares are at stake." Said one of the members of the board. Mr Graham spoke with them trying to make them understand and see reasons why that part of the will was never said or read. He told them it was all part of Mr. Williams's orders and that he was just simply obeying them. Alex and his aunt Eleanor kept quiet to allow Mr. Graham to do his job. After much talk, they finally agreed with what was written in the will. Mr Gra
"Is a party really necessary, Aunty? I mean I just want to stay low. I don't want the media on my face Aunty" Alex said to his Aunt politely. His aunt had called him to inform him of the party she planned on holding because of Alex. A party showing the whole city and the substantial and affluent people of the city that he was now the CEO of Hugh, and also the Hugh family's long-lost heir. But Alex wasn't so keen on the idea of a party because he didn't want to be seen just yet by Carla, Dawson, or even Carla's family or anyone who knew him with them. He wanted to deal with them secretly until he revealed himself once they were broken. He knew the party would put him in the spotlight and that would kinda twat his plans to get back at them. "I don't really want a party, Aunty. But if you must parade me then can we hold a close party and no media? Please?" Alex inquired of his aunt warmly. "Fine, if that's what you want dear. But I can't guarantee you that the media won't be there b
Mr. Frank Cason narrowed his eyes and dropped the bottle of whiskey he had earlier opened without pouring himself a cup anymore. "And what gave you the impression they were shady? Huh?." He drawled. "I have warned you several times to stay out of my business, I married you from your wretched family, haven't I done enough already by marrying your ass" He scoffed harshly, picked up the whole bottle of whiskey, and took sips directly from it.His wife's spirit was already low coming into the office, but his words brought her lower. "I only said that because they scared me when they arrived unannounced. If you have such people coming in, at least inform me to better prepare for receiving them" Her voice broke at intervals as she spoke."Hahaha!...Haha." He laughed hoarsely. "You? inform you?"He looked at her and shook his head scornfully. "You must be in deja vu land to think I have to notify you before I receive people in my own house." His tone changed from condescending to fierce. "Wh
Immediately Alexander said that Mr. Graham grabbed the phone from his hand and inspected it to ascertain who the caller was but the number had been disconnected. He handed the phone to Lucas. “Take this to the tech team, the culprit will be out before you know it,” He said, handing the phone to his son.“No!” Reverberated Alexander. “That won't be necessary,” Alexander suddenly said, grabbing the phone, and surprising everyone.“Why don't you want the culprit apprehended,” Aunt Eleanor snorted and scoffed, shocked at him. “I kept mute when you decided to keep the truth of who roughed you up that led to you ending up in the hospital, this is beginning to piss me off” His Aunt spoke angrily. “She’s right Alexander, you can't keep bottling everything up, clearly, it's evident someone is adamant about hurting you, and who knows it might be…” Lucas was cut off by Alex's frustrated grunts. “Just stop! What makes you think it’s whoever landed me in the hospital.” He pinched the bridge of h
Mr. Jacob handed him a load of files containing dissimilarities during the short time Mr. Cason was the CEO. He was right, even if he weren’t returning, the files would go a long way in fighting a case for Alexander. The files were much needed by Alexander. He got into his car and drove straight to the office. Upon arrival, the office was filled with uproar upon his arrival with the staff having different opinions as to what was happening. Alexander was fazed with visible creases on his forehead. “Why is there uproar in my office when work is supposed to be ongoing? What the hell is the meaning of this pandemonium?” His voice is commanding and reverberating throughout the whole floor. His eyes were red hot, piercing into the souls of the whole staff. They kept mute upon hearing the authoritative tone. They hid their faces, bowing their heads avoiding Alexander's fierce gaze. Alexander stepped right to his office and matched right into his office lobby to meet his aunt and Lucas wait
"I need your help in finding a private detective." Lucas furrowed his face in shock. "Is this because of what we discussed in the car? Trust me Mr. Cason might be brutal but he isn't capable of anything other than empty threats." Alexander was indifferent to what Lucas said. "Just find me one"Lucas sighed heavily and just shook his head. He knew there was no point arguing. He wondered what Alexander needed with a private investigator. He knew he needed to talk with his dad.****The drive to the former secretary's house was serene and warm. Alexander had forwarded the details of the journey to his driver. He left early because the man lived in the countryside away from the buzzing city. The whole city's media has been buzzing on the knowledge of the lost son of Hugh. Alexander hissed as he perused his phone. Every tabloid had his pictures on their front pages carrying both false and true news about him.He sighed heavily and tossed the phone to the leather chair of the luxurious ca
She was flabbergasted at the sight of what was shown on TV. A boy she thought was nothing is now the most powerful man in the city. She was lost for some minutes until she recollected, picked up her jaw, and closed her mouth. She brushed her sweatshirt, grabbed the remote from her son, and put the TV off.She abruptly turned to her daughter. "It doesn't matter what he is and the power he has now. We did nothing to him, and he's still the same useless boy in my eyes" "Mom! You're joking, right? We did everything inhumanly possible to him. We ridiculed and don't forget, I rendered his company to the ground." Carla had beads of tears formed in her eyes. She suddenly felt remorseful for everything she did to Alexander. Her mom looked at her with disgust because of the tears she saw. "Better suck those tears back in because I don't see anything wrong in whatever we did. Besides, the business is booming more than ever and we still have Dawson's funds." Her mom said. She was nonchalant and
Carla's best friend Marie, was surprised that her date was bowing to Alexander. She was livid with him even though she had just seen Alexander on the TV a few seconds ago. She still believed that it was a lie or a ploy to get her precious friend Carla back."Why in the world would you bow to this commoner and call him Sir? He's not a God. He's just a useless person who couldn't give what his fiance wanted in life…" Marie's words trailed off because the man she came with snapped at her.He dragged her by her hand closer to himself. "You're gonna get me in trouble, Marie. That's my new boss. Remember that deal I have been telling you about that would pay for your vacation and your new house? It's all in his hands. Please I'm begging you, don't ruin this for me with your blabbermouth." The man owned a marketing agency and was in the works of striking a deal with Hugh's company to be the major advertising agency they had. But with the way things are going with Marie's abusive words, now
Same moment as Dawson was strangling the life out of Carla, the party was still buzzing with guests mingling with one another and enjoying themselves. Alexander had seen off Emma and went back in. He tried dodging the remaining few people at the party but was accosted by one of the board members. He looked at Alex sternly. "Take what Mr. Cason says to heart. He's always been a brute. But I will say this because you seem like a good fellow. Be careful of him. He's a ruthless man, and he's with the bad crowd. I have this gut feeling that Mr. Williams's death wasn't old age." He patted Alexander's shoulder and walked off into the parking lot.Alexander wasn't surprised at what he said. He knew that Frank Cason wasn't one to take lightly and this just confirmed it. But deep down, he wondered what type of man Mr. Cason was and what he was actually capable of. Afterwards, he dashed off to his room and took a shower. He picked up his phone and called Lucas. He asked Lucas if he could come
Emma held on tightly to Alexander's hand. He gave a weary sigh. He put the champagne bottle back on the ice bucket and sank himself back on the sofa."What happened to you? You were happy when I got here, and now, you have this coldness in your eyes I have only ever seen once on you." She said looking at him with worry written all over her face.Alex looked quite dull probably from the glasses of champagne he gulped a few minutes ago. He stood up from the sofa and extended his hand to Emma."Take a walk with me." Emma stared at him quizzically. She hesitated for a while but she gave him her right hand and Alexander led her out of the party from all the noise. The walk was quiet. She walked beside Alexander for quite some time until they were in a rose garden. It was the most beautiful garden Emma had ever seen.It was secluded from the main building of the estate. One wouldn't even know something like that existed in the estate. It had a tall glass casing, with the roof part open to
Dawson turned back realizing all eyes were now on him because of what Alexander asked. Dawson stuttered."I… I wasn't leaving. I just wanted to get something from the car first. I had it in mind already to help her up." He chuckled weakly. He squatted to Carla who was still on the ground covered in drink and helped her up."Here, use it and clean yourself." Alex handed him a cloth spotting a wicked sneer across his face."Thank you" Carla shamefully looked down and collected the cloth from Alex. She dared not look into his eyes."No need for the thank you, it's a piece of rag just like you." He smiled at both of them. Murmurs were heard from the guests and they wondered what they had done to the Hugh heir. Dawson was dumbfounded and couldn't even hold himself together. He was scared. His heart was in his mouth. He remembered every single thing he did to Alexander and knew his own life was finished. He shook repeatedly.Alex walked over to them, took Dawson's palm, and dragged him clo
