CHAPTER 130

Alex’s heart pounded as he followed the young doctor through the sterile hallways of the hospital. The smell of antiseptic was overpowering, and the fluorescent lights cast a harsh glow on the white walls. Paulina walked beside him, her face pale with worry. They had arrived at the hospital minutes earlier, desperate for news about Ethan.

"Mr. Davis, right?" The doctor had approached them in the lobby, adjusting his spectacles.

"Yes," Alex replied, urgency in his voice. "How is Ethan Walsh?"

The doctor led them to a private room at the end of the corridor. "He's stable but in critical condition. He sustained a significant head injury and smoke inhalation. We're monitoring him closely and have him on a ventilator to help with his breathing."

As they entered the room, Alex saw Ethan lying motionless on the hospital bed, tubes and wires connected to various machines that beeped and hummed. His head was bandaged, and his face was pale.
