CHAPTER 143

Alex crept towards the voices, his heart pounding in his chest. He strained to hear the conversation, hoping to catch any useful information. As he approached the door of the small office, he could make out two distinct voices—one of them belonged to Victor Santos.

"This is getting out of hand, Victor," an unfamiliar voice said, frustration evident in his tone. "Xavier's growing more paranoid every day. He thinks everyone is out to get him."

"He's not wrong," Victor replied, his voice low and gravelly. "But if we can keep Ruby's death hidden and the commissioner happy, we might still come out on top."

Alex's pulse quickened at the mention of Ruby. He edged closer, careful not to make any noise. He needed to hear more.

"What about Anthony Bailey?" the other man asked. "His death has stirred up a lot of attention. The FBI is all over us."
