CHAPTER 24

"Answer the man's question!" The DPO's voice boomed in the room.

Roland shifted uncomfortably, his eyes moving around the room as if searching for an escape route. Finally, he summoned the courage to speak, albeit hesitantly. "I... I didn't mean to burn it down. It was an accident."

Alex narrowed his eyes, his patience wearing thin. "An accident? You call burning down a house an accident?"

Roland gulped audibly. "I... I was trying to light a cigarette outside, and I must have dropped the match by mistake. I didn't realize it until it was too late."

The DPO shook his head in disbelief. "So you're telling me that you accidentally set fire to a whole house?"

"Yes, sir," Roland stammered. "I didn't mean for it to happen. I swear."

Alex let out a frustrated sigh. "Do you have any idea how much damage you've caused? Not to mention the emotional distress it's caused me."
