Chapter 212

Karla drove in silence, the rhythmic hum of the engine accompanying her thoughts. Duncan, seated beside her, seemed lost in contemplation, his gaze distant. After more than 20 minutes of aimless driving through the quiet streets, Karla stole glances at him, unable to decipher the emotions on his face.

"Why are you stealing glances at me?" Duncan suddenly asked, breaking the silence and prompting Karla to pull over at the side of the road.

"If you want to tell me something, do so instead of giving me those weird glances," Duncan remarked, his observant nature evident throughout the drive.

Karla took a deep breath. "Duncan, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to blame you like that back in Abigail's house. I'm really sorry."

Duncan gazed at her, his expression unreadable. "I took no offense. Anyway, your apology is accepted."

"That's like it." Karla smiled. "So?"
