Chapter 13

Determined to obtain insights into the life that had occurred during his captivity, Lucas ventured out into the world he had left behind.

The streets, previously familiar, now seemed like new terrain, and as he strolled, he sought answers from people who had continued their lives beyond the constraints of prison walls.

His first trip was to the local grocery shop, where Mrs. Henderson, the owner, welcomed him with a combination of surprise and interest.

"Lucas, is that really you?" Mrs. Henderson shouted, wiping her hands on her apron.

Lucas smiled warmly, "Yes, it's me, Mrs. Henderson. How have things been around here?"

Mrs. Henderson, her eyes widening, said, "Oh, a lot has changed. New companies, some old ones closed down, and the town has expanded a little. People have moved in and out."

Lucas nodded, absorbing the changes. "And what about the folks? How have they been?"

Mrs. Henderson leaned on the counter, her countenance going serious. "Well, you know how it is. Life carries on
