The trek to her mother's home seemed like an emotional pilgrimage for Tonia—a return to the embrace of family relationships in the middle of the storm that had washed away the parts of her existence. As she reached the familiar area, the veneer of fortitude she had maintained collapsed, giving way to a flood of tears that streamed unrestrained.

Tonia drove into the driveway of her childhood home, the motor stuttering to a halt as she waited there, dealing with the overpowering emotions that threatened to overtake her.
