CHAPTER 9

"What is taking him so long to head home? " Kennedy, Peter's uncle, asked no one but himself while pacing about near the window.

Victor had told him that he had good news to share with him, but his son hadn't been picking up his call after that time.

This got him wondering if Victor had stepped out to celebrate or do something fun.

"Still, he'll return here to me, " Kennedy decided, getting set to head into his room. That's when he noticed the flash of a light coming right towards the mansion.

He immediately recognized it as Victor's car. "It's about time, " He said, walking away from the window to go and welcome his son.

Just as he was getting towards the entrance, Kennedy was stunned to see his son's face all bruised with a black eye.

"Victor?! What happened to you son?!" Kennedy asked, rushing up to his son.

A maid had come over and exclaimed on seeing Victor's face.

"My goodness! What happened to you, sir?"

"Shut up and go get the first aid box," Mr Kennedy yelled at the maid, who immediately ran inside to get the first aid box.

Kennedy attempted to help his son, but Victor showed his anger over what had happened by refusing his father's help, matching into the living room.

"What happened Victor? Who is the monster that did this to you?" Kennedy demanded, getting fired up.

Victor, who was struggling to rest his head back on the couch, answered his father, " It was that damned cousin that calls himself Peter."

"Peter? He did this to you? " Kennedy is stunned.

He asks why and Victor reveals to his father what he had done.

"Wait, the accident from the news, that was your doing?" He asked, looking at his son.

Victor said nothing but just shut his eyes to relax his pounding head.

The maid comes in with the first aid kit, requesting to help Victor out. But Mr Kennedy takes it instead, telling her to leave.

Once she left, Mr Kennedy sat beside his son, asking, "So, Peter found out about your plan?"

"He knew about it from the start. That ass hole turned out to be smarter than I thought," He said, feeling his swollen cheek.

"I thought I had him once and for all, but he turned out to be smart. He didn't hesitate to descend on me, beating me like some kind of punching bag. I could tell he was venting both present and past anger on me, " He scoffed.

Kennedy takes out a wool to clean the blood from his son's cheek.

His blood boiling with rage, as he remembered the day his late brother told him that he finally found out that his son was alive.

"If only we had known before him, we would have ended that bastard before he got a clue of his identity," Kennedy said, showing his detest for Peter.

Kennedy and his son have always craved for late Coleman's wealth. It has been their target and gateway to riches for a very long time now.

Seeing his brother had no wife or heir to take over from him in the future, Kennedy began presenting his son before his brother, so Coleman would have no choice but to take Victor as his next heir.

Everything was going according to his plan, but the day Coleman invited him over to his mansion and revealed that he had a son, Kennedy's world came crumbling down.

"I have a son, brother. My hair is alive, " Coleman had shared then, showing his happiness.

A troubled Kennedy took it upon himself to help his brother in getting his son for him.

"You know he's no longer a baby but a mature man. If you tell him that he's your son like that, he might refuse. Let me find him and talk to him myself," Kennedy volunteered.

He shares this with Victor and they go over to find Peter where he worked at the restaurant. But whenever they came, Peter was absent.

That only made things troubling for them.

Not until Victor came face to face with Peter at the hospital, realize he was the one Kayla kept on visiting.

The greedy and jealous cousin would have strangled Peter to death, but he didn't want to be caught, since a nurse had seen him coming over.

He only gave a threat and went to tell his father about it. But when they came back to finish Peter once and for all, he was gone.

That didn't stop them from searching. They kept on looking for Peter, but they got nothing.

Kennedy assumed Victor's threat had scared Peter away. But they're stunned to find him with Coleman, destroying their chance of having the late billionaire's wealth in their name to use to their advantage.

Peter's presence had ruined their chances of being the face of Coleman's empire and business. Now everyone sees Peter as the boss and they are his servants.

"For years we've been nurturing that old fool and making plans for the future once he's dead, only for his son to appear out of nowhere. Now the bastard is showing his dominance and trying to act smart!" Kennedy groaned, squeezing Victor's shoulder unknowingly.

He only realizes when Victor hissed at the pain, getting his attention. "Easy Dad! I know you're mad, but don't vent it on me."

"Sorry son. I'm just mad with how the table has turned. I thought the stars were in our favor. This shouldn't be happening to us, " He said, moving away from his son to gaze at his late brother's photo on the wall.

He gazed at Coleman's picture, saying, " You didn't do well, brother. After all the sacrifices I made, serving you for years, you went ahead to bring in that stumbling block you call a son, just to hinder me and my boy from taking your wealth?"

Victor lifted his gaze at his father, also looking at the picture.

He remembered the day he was working at the company while being entertained by a lady.

Coleman had passed by and saw him.

The eyes he gave, showed Victor how the old man felt towards him.

"He had no intention of leaving his wealth for us. It's like he saw right through us. That old bastard. I hope he rots in hell."
