Chapter Eight

Mr. Dalton couldn't believe what he was hearing. The waiter placed their jobs and lives in danger just in the name of hundred dollars, was their worth fifty dollars each?

The waiter spoke, "they were unoccupied. Sir, it is just a seat."

Furiously, Mr. Dalton asked, "a seat?” He leaned in and whispered, “you and I know they shouldn’t be shared. Have you forgotten who they belong to? Do I need to teach you again how this restaurant work? To repeat everything?”

"I can’t believe this is about a spot,” Milton mumbled, his eyes on the food Natalie was eating with Dickson. He licked his lips, "Mr. Dalton. Enough."

"No. Not enough. Apologize." Mr. Dalton said to the waiter. The waiter did and then Mr. Dalton grabbed him by the collar, “stop it now. Mr. Milton., I am sorry about the inconvenience, I will fix this immediately.”

Milton shifted his weight from one leg to another. He was getting uncomfortable.

By fixing, Mr. Dalton meant firing the waiter. His voice firm, he told him, “breaking rules and receiving bribery is frowned upon here. You are fired.”

As the waiter scrambled off with tears streaming down his face, Milton couldn’t help but wonder if this was what would be from now on. If his badge would mean people getting fired from the mere sight of it and the mentioning of ‘Mr. Milton.’

Mr. Dalton wouldn’t have run out right now if anyone told him there was a fire outside, his face showed emotions that were not there earlier. He had finally decided on what he would do.

No way would he go down just because the doorman disrespected Milton, and the waiter stupidly sold them off with little cash.

Natalie and Dickson hadn’t wrapped their head around what just happened.

“Now, you two.” He paused and faced Milton, “sir, I am glad you are satisfied with the waiter.”

There was no satisfaction when it came to firing someone, but he maintained his silence. The manager took it as a good sign and addressed Dickson and Natalie. “You two are the most inconsiderate human beings I have ever met.

“I don’t want to waste my saliva and energy speaking to you. You are banned from this restaurant for the rest of your miserable lives.”

Natalie let go of Dickson, she matched the fury in Mr. Dalton’s eyes, “you don’t mean that, we are important to this place unlike this ungrateful man here.”

Dickson ground his teeth together while fisting his palms, “you can’t do that to us. How do you want us to explain this to you? I can pay you, so tell me, how much do you want?”

Mr. Dalton scoffed, “how dare you think you can bribe me as you bribed him?”

“Because money buys everything, and I am buying you. I can pay you two to go away from our sights.”

Mr. Dalton insisted on them leaving, turning Natalie into a blabbering mess while Dickson was yelling, attracting the attention of the customers even more. Mr. Dalton clicked angrily and took out his phone.

Their commotion won’t do anyone good, so he called security, “come take these two customers, they are disturbing the peace of others.”

When security arrived, Natalie threw her hands around while Dickson tried to fight them. Two more security arrived and held them down. As they were taken away, Mr. Dalton ordered them, ”don’t let them here ever again.”

Milton crossed his hands over his chest, he couldn’t believe what he witnessed. He pinched himself to see if he was dreaming and when he felt the pain, he knew this was now his reality now. Strange things were happening and they would still happen again.

How did he go from washing dirty dishes and disgusting smell clothes to be taken care of?

For someone else to be fired because their apologies weren’t enough?

For someone to be hired back just because he said so?

Milton Jackson didn’t know if he should thank the heavens or throw questions at it. If this was luck, then he had hit a jackpot.

Mr. Dalton inclined his head to the side, “sir, I don’t know if…”

“Please, don’t apologize again. I have heard enough for my entire life.”

Mr. Dalton chuckled, “I love your humor.”

Milton hummed, he wasn’t funny, the man was just kissing his ass. Milton didn’t understand how things have turned all of a sudden. Just a few days ago he was bullied by others.

The waiters and waitresses cleared the table in a flash. “Sir, take a seat, please.”

“Thank you.” Milton smiled half-heartedly when Mr. Dalton pulled the chair for him. He placed his hands on the table and hoped the man would leave.

Mr. Dalton however didn’t read the room and asked, “sir, anything you need, say.”

Milton leaned back to the chair, “just water, please.” He wanted to add, “and please don’t return.” But couldn’t because he was respectful. The waiters came with the menu but left after Milton told them he wasn’t in a hurry and that he was waiting for someone. They appreciated him and left.

Finally, Brianna arrived and apologized for coming late. Milton lied through his teeth, “it is okay.” He wasn’t okay. He knew if Brianna had been with him, people around wouldn’t still be staring at him in awe.

They were served scrumptious meals. A meal Milton was sure he couldn’t afford but had to order because Brianna mentioned the badge. They had a light conversation while they ate.

Milton was delighted by Brianna accepting the dinner while Brianna was excited Milton didn’t reject when she explained to him about his identity.

As they enjoyed their meal, they didn’t notice that Dickson and Natalie were outside watching them with their phones out taking pictures of the two of them. They doubted Milton was the one paying.

Dickson shuddered as he scrolled through the pictures, he told Natalie, “Natalie, I can’t believe this.”

“Me too.”

Dickson scoffed, “Milton Jackson is a disgusting piece of shit. How dare he act all might and high when he is a gigolo.”

“What?”

Dickson repeated, “Milton can’t afford this nice restaurant. He is a gigolo.”
