“Dustin isn’t home, either, so he can lick Robin’s feet, too,” another man said, making the rest laugh even more.
Ulmer stopped.
Kale waved his hands in a cross-manner, telling him to don’t do anything stupid and just keep going.
However, Ulmer turned around and walked toward them, looking at the one that just spoke, “Take back what you said.”
“Or else what?” all of them stopped playing and surrounded him quickly.
It was so obvious that this was their plan from the beginning. Kale quickly rushed away to ask help from the other adults around, but because of Henry, nobody helped him. Kale came back in about two minutes, and everybody except Ulmer was gone.
And Ulmer had no injuries on his body or face.
“Where did they go?” Kale asked in sign language.
“They learned their mistake and apologized before leaving,” Ulmer said.
Kale could see that the poker cards, water bottles, and meat packets were still there under the tree. Why would they leave these things here? It didn’t make any sense, but the thought of Ulmer being able to fight and tussle with many men didn’t even cross his mind.
Kale and Ulmer then headed back home.
Meanwhile, the gamblers all regrouped in another street, where there was an officer waiting for them.
“Did you beat him up?” he asked them.
“Beat who? That motherfucker?” they cried out pitifully. “Don’t ever tell us to do anything related to him. And you also… Don’t go near him, or he’ll fuck you, too.” They warned the officer and then left.
“Just what in the world happened?” the officer could only wonder. “I must report this incident to Senior Henry.”
This officer had a two-star silver badge.
The officers were ranked in four tiers: Apprentices, Junior, Senior, and Sir.
Apprentices were given copper star badges. Juniors were given silver star badges, and Seniors were given gold star badges.
Every tier had badges ranging from one to five stars.
These badges were not given according to age but according to merit, which was why Henry was able to reach the 1 star golden badge level, even though he was still young.
The influence a gold-star badged officer had compared to a silver star badged officer was like the difference between a village-level officer and a district-level officer. The platinum badged officer was like a state-level officer with the highest rank and authority.
Meanwhile, Kale and Ulmer came home.
Kale told his mom about what happened at the hotel, and it really worried her. She went to the restaurant to talk with him.
Ulmer wasn’t sure what he should do now since there was no such thing as television in this city. There were books in the house, but he was not the type to read them. If he was, he would have gotten better grades in college and wouldn’t have gotten scolded by his parents so much.
Unlike him, Suki was reading the books. He sat down with her and asked her about her school, and her reply shocked him.
She didn’t even know what a school was.
There was no such thing as a school in this city, either. All kids were home-taught by their own parents, and so the literacy rate was a hundred percent. And there were scholar tests for children who can then freely learn from retired scholars that generally managed libraries all around the city.
However, the problem here was that even though learning from a scholar was free, it was up to the scholar whether they wanted to teach someone or not, so the kids generally tried really hard to get picked and taught by scholars. Suki was also doing the same thing. She would study from morning till evening and then play in the evening. This was her daily routine.
But if there were any guests at home, she would happily spend her time talking with them, eating with them, and listening to their stories.
In just a day, Ulmer understood that Suki was the liveliest character in the house, and also that Ayana was the brightest because she passed the scholar test as the fifth top ranker of the city but did not become an actual scholar for some reason Ulmer did not know yet because Suki didn’t know the reason, either.
Later that day, when Ulmer entered Ayana’s room after knocking on the door, she saw him reading books. She gave him the bank card and said, “Don’t leave it in the dress. It’s a valuable thing.”
“Why? Will someone steal if I leave it in the dress?” Ulmer asked her.
“Suki does steal from Dad’s pockets,” Ayana said in a low voice. “Our family members only have copper bank cards, but this is a gold bank card. If she sees this card, then she might take it and use it. So, don’t let her see it.”
“I’ll be more careful with it then,” Ulmer said, putting the card in his pocket.
“I have a little gift for you,” she said, giving him a box.
Ulmer was not expecting this, so he was pleasantly surprised. He soon opened the box and found three things inside. A watch, a pen, and a purse.
He was lacking these three things, for sure. How perceptive of her.
Ulmer felt so touched by her gesture and her innocent smile that he couldn’t help but smile gratefully.
The last person that gave him a gift was Brianna, but now, he felt like he could finally forget about those old gifts that included a bicycle, gaming playstation, and so on, and move on by wearing these new gifts. He wore the watch, put the pen and purse in his pockets.
“Thank you, Ayana…” He was about to hug her but stopped midway because he wasn’t sure if he should do that without her permission or not.
But she leaned in and hugged him tightly.
Dustin came home in the afternoon, looking half the man he was in the morning, in terms of happiness.Without Dustin saying anything, Ulmer understood the situation of the restaurant.“If this continues for another couple of days, we won’t be able to pay the rent,” Dustin was telling Robin and Ayana. “We’ll be forced to shut down the hotel business.”Their family was producing lots of vegetables and fruits. Their hotel business was a way for them to use those fruits and vegetables. If they couldn’t do that now, they’d have to sell them from the house itself. But who would come to their house and buy these things when nobody came to the hotel to eat food?In the end, they might be forced to throw away the extra vegetables and fruits.“It seems I might have to become a porter once again,” Dustin was telling Robin.Ayana heard that from outside and frowned. She came to her room and wrote a letter.Ulmer was sitting on the bed right now, and he could somewhat see what she was writing. Her
Ulmer, Ayana and everyone in the house ate the same food in the afternoon and at night because not a single customer came to their shop.Dustin and Robin felt so depressed and ashamed that they didn’t even come out of their room to eat. Ayana had to take the food to their rooms and make them eat. After they ate the food, Ayana stored some food in an advanced yet earthly refrigerator that was in the shape of a giant pot with doors and many compartments. Then, she tossed the rest of the food in the dustbin. There wasn’t a single street dog present in this neighborhood because Henry had his subordinates hunt every single one of them down. It was only the birds and squirrels that came to eat from the leftover food.At night, after Suki finished her reading, Ulmer asked her to tell him about Henry because he wanted to hear a child’s perspective. To his surprise, Suki told him about Henry’s role and authority as an officer. The gold-badged Senior Officers were ranked from one to five stars.
Later that night, both Ulmer and Ayana slept in the same room, and on the same bed.But neither of them did anything other than sleep because the mood in the house wasn’t good. The next morning.Dustin and Robin would always wake up at around three o’clock to cook the food for the restaurant, but today, they were both sleeping even at seven o’clock. This never happened before, so Ayana was so afraid she had to enter their room and make sure that they were both actually still alive and sleeping. Only after silently confirming to herself, she was relieved.Ayana was about to cook breakfast, but then Ulmer entered the kitchen and asked, “What are you doing?”“I’m cooking breakfast.”“Why? Didn’t we store a lot of food in the refrigerator yesterday?” Ulmer couldn’t help but ask.“Yeah, but you don’t have to eat that,” Ayana replied. “I’ll make fresh breakfast for you.”Ulmer smiled. “Thank you, but I’m used to eating food stored in the fridge for days if not weeks. So, don’t strain yourse
The name of the bank situated in this village was called the Bright Moon Bank. Every village bank had a different name, and their managers were different, but they all still answered to the authorities. The banks signaled status in the city. Not just anybody could enter the bank because there’s the rule of paying 1 silver coin every time one entered the bank. This was why the crowds never rushed to the banks, and only those who could afford to waste a silver coin easily would use the banks often. This would include big businessmen. But the likes of Dustin who only had a small restaurant would not dare to enter the bank any more than once a month or once in two months as one silver was not a small amount for the Revers family. And also Dustin was not the kind of person to waste even a single copper coin.As Ayana kept telling Ulmer about the city and about her parents, Ulmer understood that Dustin and Robin weren’t depressed just because there were no customers coming to the shop but a
“Gold card customer…” one of the workers offered lemon juice to Henry. “Please be seated, sir. I’ll check the balance right away.”Henry took the lemon water and then came and sat down next to Ayana because there was an empty chair. He sipped on lemon water and then offered her, “Want some?”Ayana shook her head.“Too bad. Why are you two here anyway?” Henry asked. “Are you trying to open a bank account for that nobody sitting next to you?”“He’s not a nobody. He’s Ulmer,” Ayana quickly said.“Ulmer… how big is he?” Henry asked, making Ayana frown.Ulmer was getting up, but Ayana grabbed his hand and told him to sit down.Ulmer coldly looked at Henry, but Henry found it amusing.Ayana then looked at Henry. “You should just mind your business, Senior. That’s better for everyone.”“Yeah, yeah,” Henry sucked in a deep breath and then purposely blew air in her face. The veins in Ulmer’s arm bulged from his hand all the way up to his shoulder. Even though he looked like a slim man, when he
Henry felt that something wasn’t right when the bank employee ordered the guard to bring fresh apple juice when he had only given Henry pre-made lemon water. However, Henry pushed the discomforting thoughts aside and began to drink the sweet lemon water. But then the employee uttered the words, “Sir Ulmer King. Y-Your bank balance is… 850 gold coins.”“Pfft,” Henry ended up half-swallowing and half-spitting the lemon juice hurriedly, and some of the juice went into his nose, making him cough a lot.“8-850 gold?” the other two officers were utterly shocked. “A-Are you sure you checked it correctly?”“I did, Junior,” the employee quickly said. “There’s no mistake in what I said. Sir Ulmer’s bank balance is 850 gold coins. He’s a ‘true’ VIP customer of the Bank now.”There was only one bank in Syslon, and it was called the Emperor’s Bank, but people colloquially called it the Bank.Anybody with over 100 gold coins in the bank was a VIP customer who would get special services. For instanc
Ulmer and Ayana were returning from the bank. Ulmer was carrying the money in his bag.Ayana was being more vigilant than usual. Every time someone was passing by, she was assuming a defensive stance. Even when a squirrel ran across the road, she was actively guarding herself and Ulmer.“What are you doing?” Ulmer found her actions amusing and innocent.“You have so much money now. We have to be careful so that no one can steal from us,” Ayana said.“Didn’t you say that you don’t even remember when someone stole from others in this city?” Ulmer couldn’t help but ask.“Yeah, but… they could come wearing masks and whatnot,” Ayana said. “In the worst cases, they could send their pets to steal from us. They can do things in secret. For example, people in your own house can steal money, and no one can ever find out who they are. That’s why we, no, you have to be careful. Don’t trust anyone, not my parents, siblings, or even me.”Ulmer smiled. “It’s just ten gold. There’s no need to doubt p
Ayana who was very active during the journey home went completely normal after reaching home. She didn’t even tell anything to her parents or siblings about Ulmer’s money, as if she had no business with it.“Is she waiting for me to tell everyone?” Ulmer wondered.Ulmer saw that Dustin and Robin did not look happy. They woke up late and didn’t eat anything yet, even though it was afternoon already.Suki was enjoying her time on the swing under a tree with Kale pushing her from behind, keeping the swing moving like a pendulum. After some time, they switched roles.“Can I also sit there?” Ulmer asked them.“Sure,” Suki said, but after Ulmer sat, she wasn’t able to push him forward. Kate snickered, which made her roar and push Ulmer harder, but she still couldn’t do it by herself. Kate was about to join, but Ayana secretly came up from behind and pushed Ulmer.“Oh…” he was pleasantly surprised by it. “You got some strength, Kate, even though you look weak. Not bad.”Kate and Suki were gi
THANK YOU::The novel may have come to a climax, but the curtain for Ulmer's grown-up journey has just risen! The last arc made me pretty emotional at times, and it was difficult to write. A few months later.Ben and Amelie not only started their business together but also got married, and Ivy as usual caused a lot of noise during the marriage, asking Ross Richard to give her son this and that.Ross had to give in to her demands because of his daughter Amelie.Ivy’s brother took some gold from her and started a restaurant business because Ulmer had commanded him to stop his finance business as he was sucking people’s blood with it. His wife didn’t like it and went back to her home, but she would eventually return to his side a few years later, after her mother would die.Rick Orsini’s right-hand man, Lexor, was sitting alone on the rooftop of a big hotel, reading the online news on his tablet.“Someone called Urban God joined the Underworld Kings competition?” Lexor raised his eyebrows. “If he’s the real deal, no one will be able to stop him.”Underworld Kings was a world-wide martial arts competition where people with all kinds of superpowers competed, with loose rule
“Your wife?!”“That girl who looks younger than Ruth is your wife?” Ivy quickly said. “Are you out of your mind, Ulmer?”“She’s 19,” Ulmer coldly glanced at her. “So, what’s the problem?”“T-That’s…” Ivy found her throat shaking. His gaze felt intimidating. “I-Isn’t there too much age gap between you two?”“What bullshit are you saying, Ivy?” Mollie snorted. “My grandson is not even thirty, and you say there’s an age gap? Can’t you see that they both look nice next to one another? Also, it’s actually nice if there's a five to six year gap between the husband and wife.”Mollie gently held Ayana’s cheeks and lifted up her head.“Where did you hide such a pretty girl all this time from us, Ulmer?” Mollie said. “You will get punished for this later.”“Ulmer always talks greatly about you, Grandmother,” Ayana said. “So, please forgive him this once.”“Hahaha,” Mollie laughed heartily. “Your wife is already defending you so much, Ulmer. She’s not just beautiful but also smart. I think it’s
The news of so many Thorns dying did not get leaked in the underworld, much less to the common public. However, some of the topdogs in the underworld eventually heard of the heart-shaking news that more than half of the thorns died in the hands of someone called the Urban God.And the title Urban God started to be feared by those who have heard about it.Also, a new bounty appeared on the Urban God, whose name and face were kept hidden by the thorns on purpose. His current bounty was a quadrillion dollars, twice as much as the current world’s known wealth. The amount was so ridiculous and crazy that many bounty hunters thought it was just a fake bounty. A scam. A joke. But then there were those who believed that it could be real and started to investigate the name Urban God. However, most of them would give up on their search the more they learned about the recent history of the Urban God.A few weeks after Crimia was buried from the hidden face of the earth.Minerva had woken up, but
At around two in the night, the vibrations stopped, and the people finally were able to breathe freely. Many of them went back into their homes and slept. Some still stayed outside, afraid of the quake happening again.Around three in the night, Dark Monarch arrived at the Bronich city, but he was surprised to find out that the entire Crimia had been buried by mud. All the entrances were sealed off by mud.“What the hell just happened here in the time I was gone? Was he responsible for this?”Just then, he looked up into the sky.Miles high in the sky, Abbie was flying away with her mother’s body in her arms, her expression dark and desolate under moonlight.“Isn’t that…”Suddenly, immense pressure was put on his body.“Gravity Cage…” Ulmer appeared next to him.Dark Monarch’s body was crushed from every angle by pressure he had never experienced before. He screamed at the top of his lungs.“You should have never returned,” Ulmer did not spare even an inkling of mercy on him. “Gravity
“She’s going to live,” the royal healer, Irvi, an old lady with poisonous pimples all over her face, said. She was 120 years old but was still able to stand straight. However, her voice was not steady. She was observing Minerva’s pulse.Minerva was lying on the bed in the medical chambers not far from the royal palace.“However, her system has integrated with her body, so we can’t take it out,” Irvi said. “If we do it right now, she will die.”“Is it not possible to separate the system without killing her?” Ulmer asked.“It is, but that’s only possible when she overcomes the system?” Irvi responded. “The chances of that ever happening are slim.”Ulmer frowned but then said, “Do what you can to heal her.”“I will. That’s my job, after all,” Irvi said. “No matter how wicked a person may be, if they come to my doorstep, I will not turn my back toward them.”Ulmer slightly bowed his head to her and walked out onto the balcony of that building, where Minerva’s dad, Neodus was present.“I t
The vines suddenly dashed at Ulmer from behind.Ulmer didn’t even move an inch and stood unmoving. The vines rushed past him at a terrific speed and pierced Minerva’s body everywhere. She coughed out a lot of blood.“I didn’t want my blood on your hands,” she tried to smile despite the pain coursing through her body. “I’m… really sorry… for everything.”She was collapsing forward.Ulmer let go of the sword and held her shoulders, stopping her from falling to the ground.Minerva’s eyes began to turn completely dark. The vines that pierced her body began to turn direction and then pierced through Ulmer’s body from behind.Blood rushed to Ulmer’s mouth, but kept his mouth shut. Still, blood slowly leaked from a corner of his mouth. He sent a mental message to her. “It’s okay…”He wrapped his arms around her and hugged her.Minerva’s eyes shed more tears, and the blackness in her eyes began to disperse slowly but surely. In a few moments, Minerva’s eyes closed. He could still feel her spi
Minerva thought she could kidnap Ulmer’s family but now realized that she was the one who was tricked by him.He was already well prepared for her.And he wasn’t going to let her harm his family twice. However, now that Ulmer was looking up at her, both sadness and anger filled his eyes. What has become of his ex-girlfriend? Someone with whom he had gone shopping with? Someone who seemed so innocent and lovely when he first met her?Remembering the times when they both went to a jewelry shop, and she studded herself with all kinds of gold and acted like a royal made Ulmer laugh heartily back then.He thought he fell in love with the best girl there was.But look, what has become of her now?She was reduced to someone who would hypnotize a little girl in order to lure Ulmer’s relatives out of the house.Even though Ulmer was just standing, he felt his heart strings playing hard to the point they were hurting because he knew that the time was near.“U-Ulmer…” Minerva could feel his emot
The Drunken Disaster Dionysus, the Wild King Enkidu, the Snake-haired Perseus, the Moon Goddess Artemis, the Sun God Apollo, the War Goddess Ishtar, and the one standing in front of them all and more was the mighty, monstrous King of Heroes Gilgamesh who stood nearly six meters tall. Not one of them could be called anything less than a monster. They were all absolute powerhouses, who made a name for themselves around the world in their times. Some of their powers transcended common sense and logic.“How dare a mere artificial system holder stand in our path? Know your place, vermin!” Ishtar, the war goddess, who looked extremely seductive as well as scary, squinted her eyes, releasing a powerful wave of energy that was supposed to suppress her opponent.Ulmer felt goosebumps all over. “Whooo… that tingles.” He smiled with excitement. (She saw through my system with a glance. I don’t know who she is, but she’s very dangerous. It’s not just her….) His gaze fell on others. (They are all
