Later that night, both Ulmer and Ayana slept in the same room, and on the same bed.

But neither of them did anything other than sleep because the mood in the house wasn’t good.

The next morning.

Dustin and Robin would always wake up at around three o’clock to cook the food for the restaurant, but today, they were both sleeping even at seven o’clock.

This never happened before, so Ayana was so afraid she had to enter their room and make sure that they were both actually still alive and sleeping. Only after silently confirming to herself, she was relieved.

Ayana was about to cook breakfast, but then Ulmer entered the kitchen and asked, “What are you doing?”

“I’m cooking breakfast.”

“Why? Didn’t we store a lot of food in the refrigerator yesterday?” Ulmer couldn’t help but ask.

“Yeah, but you don’t have to eat that,” Ayana replied. “I’ll make fresh breakfast for you.”

Ulmer smiled. “Thank you, but I’m used to eating food stored in the fridge for days if not weeks. So, don’t strain yourself over this.”

“Are you sure?” she asked.

“Yeah.”

“Really?”

‘Yeah.”

“You are not saying this because I’m working, right?”

“Why would I lie over something like this?” Ulmer said and grabbed her hand and brought her out and made her sit at the table. “Just sit and let me serve you.” He said and then began to bring the food out of the fridge.

“No, no, no, I can’t let you do this,” Ayana got up and tried to make him sit. “How can I sit while you’re serving? Women should eat after her man eats. So, you should sit down.”

Because she kept persisting, Ulmer said, “How about we both eat at the same time then?”

“T-That’s also okay,” Ayana said.

And then they ate together. Even though the food and the weather were both cold, they didn’t have an issue eating cold food that wasn’t even reheated. It was as if their company kept each other warm even though they weren’t even touching each other.

After breakfast, Ulmer said, “How about I go ad try to sell some things at the restaurant?”

“What are you talking about?” Ayana quickly asked him. “Don’t try anything funny and draw unnecessary attention to yourself.”

“I won’t do anything stupid, so trust me.”

“No. At least tell me what you’re planning to do,” she demanded.

“I will cook some outside world dishes, and a new menu might attract customers,” he suggested.

“Mm, but there are some restaurants who do that already,” she replied.

“There are none in this village, right?”

“Y-Yeah, there are none in this district,” she said. “So it might work, but as you already know, Henry is going to stop people from coming to our store. He literally told us he wants us to starve. He’s not going to let customers come even if we changed the menu.”

“Oh, you don’t need to worry about that because I will make sure that the customers will come, Ulmer confidently said.

Ayana liked as well as feared his confidence. She kept asking what kind of a plan he was having, but he refused to tell her. “The laws in this city are very different from outside, so I can’t let you do just anything you want. I will be there to see exactly what you are going to do so that you won’t have to go to jail because you did something that’s against the law.”

“Sure,” Ulmer didn’t have a problem with that. “But before that, I should visit a bank. Is there one nearby?”

“Yes, there is one bank in every village,” she said. “I’ll take you there, but why do you want to go there?”

“You will know when we get there,” he smiled.

“Why the suspense?” Ayana pouted a little, and she appeared very cute in his eyes. He felt like pinching her cheek.

Afterward, Ulmer waited until Suki and Kale also had breakfast. Suki began to study as early as seven o’clock, whereas Kale watering the plants. Ulmer was very impressed by how disciplined these kids were. He wished he had been disciplined like them when he was a kid, but he spent most of his time playing with his friends and doing things that amounted to nothing.

After all, none of those friends he spent so much time with and thought shared a deep both with was actually there to help him later on when he needed some emotional support. They were all busy with their own lives so much so they didn’t even have the time to call Ulmer and talk with him on a mobile. There were plenty of moments when Ulmer regretted his childhood days and wished he had spent his time more productively without being lazy.

And now that he got married, he was feeling responsible all of a sudden after watching these two kids, who were his in-laws. Even though they weren’t really his children, he was already thinking about them as his own kids because both of them were so innocent and lovable. Of course, the one that was most lovable and respectable was Ayana because she never talked too much and just did enough to get things done, as one would expect from the eldest child in the house.

Was there anything happier than having a wife who could be a big help to her husband in everyday life?

So, Ulmer felt lucky to have a wife who didn’t tak loudly like his mother and sister did. They would try to win every argument against him, even though they were in the wrong. But Ayana was nothing like them, and that’s what made him easily appreciate her presence around him.

Eventually, they both headed to the bank.

Every village bank had a different name, and their managers were different, but they all still answered to the authorities. The banks signaled status in the city. Not just anybody could enter the bank because there’s the rule of paying 1 silver coin every time one entered the bank. This was why the crowds never rushed to the banks, and only those who could afford to waste a silver coin easily would use the banks often. This would include big businessmen. But the likes of Dustin who only had a small restaurant would not dare to enter the bank any more than once a month or once in two months as one silver was not a small amount for the Revers family. And also Dustin was not the kind of person to waste even a single copper coin.As Ayana kept telling Ulmer about the city and about her parents, Ulmer understood that Dustin and Robin weren’t depressed just because there were no customers coming to the shop but a

Ulmer and Ayana were returning from the bank. Ulmer was carrying the money in his bag.Ayana was being more vigilant than usual. Every time someone was passing by, she was assuming a defensive stance. Even when a squirrel ran across the road, she was actively guarding herself and Ulmer.“What are you doing?” Ulmer found her actions amusing and innocent.“You have so much money now. We have to be careful so that no one can steal from us,” Ayana said.“Didn’t you say that you don’t even remember when someone stole from others in this city?” Ulmer couldn’t help but ask.“Yeah, but… they could come wearing masks and whatnot,” Ayana said. “In the worst cases, they could send their pets to steal from us. They can do things in secret. For example, people in your own house can steal money, and no one can ever find out who they are. That’s why we, no, you have to be careful. These dishes are super! I haven’t eaten this much in a long time. I feel like I want to eat again. Since there’s a free board, can I come back tonight for another free meal?”“O-Of course,” Robin said.Ulmer, however, was barely holding his anger back. Though it was his idea that they should feed the people for free for one day to show them the quality of the food, he was not expecting such a shameless old man with a bottomless appetite to be the first customer.
