The next morning.

Everyone was having breakfast together, and everybody looked happy except for Ruth.

“Is it that time of the month?” Mollie asked her in a low voice. She was quite happy that she was able to eat with everyone now, but she didn’t like seeing Ruth in dull spirits.

Ruth shook her head.

“Don’t bother about her, Mom,” Jamie said. “She’s been like that since yesterday. She’s upset that we only bought her ice cream and not a dress.”

“Oh…” Mollie wished she could give Ruth some money.

“Didn’t you buy a dress on your birthday recently?” Ivy reminded her.

“Recently? That was three months back!” Ruth pouted with wet eyes, which made Amelie smile.

“Why don’t we both go shopping then, Ruth?” Amelie suggested.

Ruth’s eyes lit up. “R-Really?”

“Amelie, don’t fall for her tear-tactics,” Ben said. “She’s not a child anymore, but she hasn't changed at all. You think crying will get you what you want, Ruth? Then you’re fully mistaken!”
