The Rising Phoenix: Devisee’s escapade. Bank Manager
“Oh, wow!” Patrick said loudly, and then he started to laugh hysterically at Jason, drawing the attention of everyone close to him for the second time.Jason stood firm and unbothered by his actions, as he waited for the perfect time to deal with him mercilessly. “You really are a clown, Young man. Do you really think that this is some kind of circus that you can come and parade your foolishness?” “Why do they keep using that word?” Jason thought to himself as he looked at Patrick speak with a valor he was determined to crash. “You really have spent more time than necessary in this place, and as you can see, the customers are really getting uncomfortable with your presence,” Patrick said with a smirk on his face, and then he looked toward his left, and a bright smile appeared on his face. “Aha! They were here right on time. I am going to enjoy watching your sorry ass kicked out of this place.” Patrick said to Jason as soon as he saw the three guards approaching. Following
The Rising Phoenix: Devisee’s escapade. Introduction
Jason stared at the Bank Manager for a few seconds while everyone around him waited to hear what he was going to say with Patrick looking at him with a scowl. He looked at the three guards one after the other, and when he returned his gaze to Brian, he took in a deep breath which he let out slowly. “No, Mr. Ruiz. I have not been disturbing the peace of the bank.” “Then why are you here? Do you have an account with the bank? Would you like to make a transaction? You can go to the counter to do that.” Brian pointed to the counters by his right, and Patrick scoffed with a smirk on his face. “I doubt that. He is a pauper.” He said with a whisper, but Brian ignored him and continued looking at Jason who had a confident smile on his face. “No, I don’t have an account in the bank, and I am not here to make any transaction,” Jason said calmly, and Brian sighed heavily without taking his eyes away from him. “In that case, Sir. I am really sorry, but I would have to ask you to leav

Brian’s jaw dropped almost immediately as he stared at Jason with so much shock on his face, not sure of the right words he was supposed to say. “It’s nice to meet you, Mr. Ruiz,” Jason said calmly, and then he extended his right hand for a handshake with a smile on his face. “You are Jack Walker?” Brian said with a shaky voice, looking at Jason with his mouth wide open and his mouth still agape. “Mm-hmm.” “That’s not true! There is no way this pauper is the Grandson of Lord Walker! He was here some years ago begging for a loan. He is just a stupid impersonator!” Patrick blurted with an angry expression, but Brian had several reasons to believe him. “Mr. Ruiz? You are hanging my hand.” Jason took a quick glance at his right hand which was still suspended in the air. “Oh, I am sorry. Par…pardon my manners.” Brian stuttered, and then he slowly grabbed Jason’s right hand and shook him with so much apprehension nestled inside him. “It’s nice to finally meet you, Young Master

Slowly, Brian answered the call, and placed the phone on his right ear, listening to what Harry had to say from the other end of the line. “Hello, Mr. Harrison.” He said calmly, and the next few seconds were met with silence from both him and every other person around him who looked at him with so much curiosity. “Yes! Yes, I am still here with you, Mr. Harrison. I perfectly understand, and I will look for him at once.” Brian said, and his ear heard the beeping sound that indicated that the call had ended. Brian slowly brought down the phone from his ear with his hands shaky as though he was catching a cold. Looking at Jason, he could only imagine what Jason had in mind as it was difficult to know how he was feeling, especially with the smile that refused to leave his face. “I am truly sorry, Young Master. I didn’t know it was you. Please, forgive me! I beg you!” Everyone who saw what happened next was shocked to see the almighty Bank Manager of Golden Penny Bank prostrate

“What?” Jason gasped in shock, and then he stared at Dan to be sure that he wasn’t joking. Even the rest of the guards shared the same pitiful expression on their faces, and it was clear that they didn’t believe that the bank was going through any rough patches. “This is unbelievable,” Jason said with a voice laced with so much pity and disproval, and then he glanced at Patrick who was too afraid and ashamed to lift up his head. “When was the last time you received any payments from him?” Jason asked, looking at the three guards one after the other, and almost at the same time, they started counting to be sure of the exact time. They spent almost a minute, and Jason could see that they had almost lost count. He scoffed with so much anger inside him, and then he turned around to steal a glance at Patrick who was still afraid to lift his head from the ground. “It’s been four months since we received our salaries, Young Master,” Dan said eventually after unanimously agreeing with

For the second time, Doris looked at the guards, and then at Patrick who still couldn’t lift her face, and the thoughts of uncertainty in her mind lingered. It became evident a few seconds later that she was a bit worried for several reasons. “Mrs. Brown?” Jason called her back to reality, and she instantly turned to look at him, wondering why he had a smile on his face even though his words were imperative. “Go on, I asked a question.” “Ye-yes, Young Master.” Doris nodded, and then she sighed heavily while everyone around her waited to hear what she was going to say, especially the guards who seemed like they had been wanting to get explanations for months. “This is true, Young Master.” Doris was still worried even after giving her response, and worse still, Jason still maintained his smile and nodded afterward. “I see. So tell me, when was the last time you disbursed the salary of workers in the Bank?” Jason ushered everyone in a solemn moment, that even their heartbeats b

Everyone in the room gasped in awe the moment they heard the words from Brian, but Jason was still as though he was expecting to hear that from the Manager. “I see that you have been filling your pockets with money from the sweat of others, Mr. Curt.” “I am sorry! I needed that money to clear my debts! The casino was after me and my family, and I was desperate!” Patrick pleaded with tears streaming down his face, but Jason didn’t look like he was ready to budge, not even a bit. “Of course, there is always a reason to justify the act, even when it completely was done with full consciousness and not on duress. You seem to have a fierce gambling habit, Mr. Curt, and now the workers in the Bank have to pay for it?” “Please, Young Master! I will repay everything that I have taken from them! All of them!” “How? How, Mr. Curt? How are you going to do that? Let me guess, you will place another bet at the casino, hoping to win big?” Jason chuckled at Patrick, even though he was visib

Jason remained seated in the office for over thirty minutes before the Bank Manager eventually walked in with hurried steps. “I am really sorry for taking so much time, Young Master. The employees were so sad when they discovered the reason why they had not been paid. To think that I wasn’t aware of this.” That’s okay, Mr. Ruiz. I hope now that you will keep your eyes and ears to the ground. People don’t have to go through things like this.” “Certainly, Young Master,” Brian nodded in agreement while maintaining a pleasant smile on his face. He sighed heavily, and almost immediately, he walked over to the position Jason was seated and sought permission. “May I?” “Yeah, sure. Go on, it’s your office after all.” Jason gave way for him to grab the knob of the drawer under the table, adjusting himself to create enough space between them. Brian opened the drawer slowly, and then he brought out a blue file that had the Bank Seal alongside the Walker’s Enterprise logo. “I prepar

Joe’s Cafe
The waitress discovered that two men were walking toward her, and adjusting herself with a welcoming smile on her face, she greeted them warmly. “Hello, Sir. Welcome to Joe’s Café. Do you need anything?” “Yes. Hello. We are looking for a lady called Shirley. I was told she works here.” Jason said with a smile as well, looking at the waitress whose countenance showed that she didn’t know who he was talking about. “Shirley? I don’t think I know any Shirley who works here, Sir. I am new here, but I can get you someone who could know.” “Yes, please! Thank you so much.” Harry said calmly, gesturing to the waitress who nodded before walking away, holding onto the small notepad and pen she had in her hands. “I really hope this ends well,” Jason said with a whisper, sighing firstly while he kept his eyes on the path the waitress took. The waitress returned in less than a minute with another waitress who looked older and more experienced than her. “Hello, Sirs. My name is Nora. I

Bring Him Home
For a few seconds, Jason remained silent, but it didn’t seem like that was going to solve anything. The old man was still waiting to get a response from him, and Harry was interested to know the outcome of their meeting as well. Adjusting himself to get a more comfortable posture, Jason cleared his throat and sighed before he spoke with a voice that almost sounded like a whisper. “He has a son.” He said calmly, but his words were too heavy for the other men in the room to remain as calm as he was. Lord Walker knew Jason to be a man who didn’t joke with such things but for a second, he remained calm, hoping that he was going to say he was joking. Maybe he meant to say something else. “A son?” “Yes, Grandpa. He has a son.” “Julius has a son?” Lord Walker leaned forward, and grabbed the half-empty glass of water which he consumed before returning it to the table. “Are you okay, Lord Walker?” Harry asked, moving closer to the old man who raised his hands to stop him from g

The rays from the sunlight were shining brightly through the casement windows inside the bedroom. The curtains were half closed, giving way to the rays that hit Brenda’s eyes while she groaned in her sleep. As though there was a force, she opened her eyes instantly, only to behold the sight of shirtless Jason sitting close to her with a tray in both hands. “Wakie wakie! I was worried that too were not going to wake up on time to see this.” Jason had a beautiful smile on his face while he looked at Brenda who adjusted herself slowly, sitting up while she looked at the tray he was carrying. “What’s that?” “Oh! This? I made you breakfast! I had to wake up early just to make sure that everything worked as I planned. Here…” Jason opened the dish cover to reveal the egg and sausages on the plate next to a cup of black coffee. “I tried making the coffee just like you do. I hope I tried.” Jason handed the cup of coffee to Brenda who blew on the coffee before taking a sip. “Easy! I

Special Announcement
While everyone sat comfortably, eating and drinking everything that had been set on the table, Jason picked up the glass of wine in front of him, and after looking at his Grandfather and getting the signal from him, he nodded before lifting the glass. “I have a special announcement!” He hit his fork on the brim of the glass, drawing the attention of everyone seated at the table who instantly put a hold t what they were doing, and paid keen attention to him. Everyone seemed curious to know what he was about to say except the old man who was already done eating his veggies and wiped his lips with a napkin while he maintaining a grin on his face. “First of all, I want to thank Harry for bringing his lovely family to dinner. It’s such a pleasure to have you all here. Family is everything, family is life, and I am happy that he has such a beautiful family.” Jason lifted the glass toward Harry who bowed gently, still wondering what he was up to. “Harry here has been working with thi

Jason was the first to step out of the hot tub before Brenda joined him. Handing over one of the two towels he grabbed to her, he gave her a lovely smile which made her blush while she grabbed the towel, and wrapped her body with it. “You are still staring.” Brenda said with her smile intact, but Jason couldn’t take his eyes away from her, not even for a second. “What am I going to ever do without you? You have brought me so much joy, Brenda.” “Nothing, Jay. You are going to do nothing.” Brenda chuckled while Jason nodded without getting rid of his smile. “You are right. Absolutely nothing, that’s what I am going to do if I ever lose you.” “Well, I am not leaving anytime soon. I am here with you, my love.” Brenda patted Jason on both cheeks before she turned and walked toward the bedroom, holding onto her towel with both hands. “We must hurry, Jay! We are having guests, remember?”“Oh, right! I almost forgot about that!” Jason rushed into the room, and got dressed alongsi

Price to Pay
For a few seconds Jason was silent while he exchanged glances with the couple, not sure of who he was to face. It was obvious that they were expecting to hear him speak, but the silence in the room was killing them, having more effect on Lucas who couldn’t forget the words he said to him. He was afraid that the day of reckoning had come, and it was time to pay for all his crimes. Still unable to stop himself from finger mg, especially at the sight of Ramon who gave him threatening looks, Lucas decided to grab his bottle, hoping to get back some of his composure from a gulp. “What’s that?” Jason’s calm words stopped Lucas from grabbing the bottle from the ground, causing him to remain still while he lifted his face slowly to look at him, patches of guilt all over his face. “I can’t believe this.” Jason scoffs. “You really want to drink right now. You have really drowned yourself in so much alcohol. I bet you dream of drinking while you sleep.” Jason sighed softly, and remain

Everyone remained silent amidst the tension that surrounded the air. While Lucas kept his eyes on Jason who remained still with a smirk on his face, he struggled with the contemplation of either remaining where he was standing, or moving backward. For a second, he took two steps backward, but because it felt as though his body no longer belonged to him, he couldn’t move afterward. “Hello… Dad. I see you haven’t left your old habits.” Jason pointed at the bottle of whiskey which Lucas tightly held onto even in the midst of the cringe that engulfed him. “It’s you.” Lucas’ voice was shaky. And while he held onto the half-empty bottle, he gently lifted it up to look at it, filled with thoughts of his numerous drinking adventures. It was true that he was intoxicated at that moment, but the sight of Jason and his companions made the effects of the whiskey wear off at once, leaving him to struggle with the situation. “I am just going to let myself in. Excuse me…” Jason gestured to

Hello, Mother
“You know you don’t have to come with me, right? It’s not like he is going to beat me just like he did several years ago.” Jason said to Brenda who was helping him out with his jacket. The news on the internet was getting a lot of attention from even different countries, and knowing that it wasn’t going to die down if he didn’t do anything about it, Jason decided to pay his foster parents a visit that night, discarding his initial plans to go see them the next day. “You are not going to be able to talk me out of this, Jay. I suggest you quit your attempts and allow me to come with you. Trust me, you are going to need me to support you, and I will always be by your side, Jay. No matter what.” Brenda’s words were helpful at that moment, and a bright smile appeared on Jason’s face, taking over his worried expression. “Thank you. I am glad you are coming with me, Brenda.” “Good. That’s all I needed you to say.” “But you have to go to work tomorrow, and I know how much you love

Foster Ordeal
As soon as he got the call from Brenda, Jason stepped out of the mansion and moved into the car. He drove to the hospital at once, and a few minutes after he parked the car, Brenda walked out of the building with her handbag carefully held with both hands. “Are you okay?” Jason asked, still staring at her even when she got into the car and slammed the door. “Yeah. Why?”“Nothing, love. I just wasn’t expecting that you would call me to come pick you up this early. It’s only been a few hours.” Jason looked at his Hublot wristwatch to ascertain that it wasn’t close to closing time yet. “Yeah…” Brenda grunted slowly, and after letting out the air she inhaled, she continued with a low tone. “I have just been feeling very tired lately, Jay. Even the patients I attended to noticed the difference. I think I will just rest today, probably by tomorrow I should be fine.” “Are you sure? Maybe we should go on a vacation or something. We should go…” Jason suggested, but Brenda shook her
