The Rising Phoenix: Devisee’s escapade. Strange Caller
There was no caller ID on the screen of the phone Jason was holding in his right hand. He stared at the screen without being certain of what to do. “Who could this be?” He thought to himself while the phone continued ringing. Eventually, the call ended without Jason being able to answer it. He kept his eyes on the phone while he stood still in front of the bed without saying a word. A few seconds later, the phone began to ring again, and it also showed that the call had no caller identity. Left with no choice, Jason answered the call and placed the phone on his right ear without saying a word. “I know you are there, Jason. I know you can hear me.” A distorted male voice said from the other end of the line, but Jason refused to respond. “You know she is not going to be yours, right? That’s not gonna happen.” The man said again, but Jason was still silent while he tried to figure out who could be the owner of the distorted voice. “I am sure that you think that you’ve got t

In less than two minutes, Jason was done with his meal, and he finished all the water in his glass before he stood slowly and pushed the seat backward with his right leg. “Rose? I have to go now, I need to be somewhere soon.” Jason said while he looked at Rose whose countenance changed slightly while she dropped the fork she was eating with on the plate, and sighed softly. “Are you okay?” Jason asked at once, but before Rose could give him a response, he was able to figure out the reason behind her mood change. “This is about the painting, isn’t it?” Jason nodded when Rose expressed a look that confirmed his word. He took in a deep breath which he let out slowly, and when he was certain that he had Rose’s attention, he continued with a smile on his face. “I am sorry we couldn’t do the painting today, but I promise that we are going to do it some other time, that’s a promise.” Rose sighed almost immediately and nodded her head in agreement while Jason chuckled softly. “To

James got into the driver’s seat at once while the other guard sat next to him, and they left the Villa at once. James drove the car to a big boutique that was about thirty kilometers away from the Villa. He parked the car in front of the building, and everyone got out, beginning with the guard seated in front before Jason got down and the Nanny followed suit before Rose gradually alighted from the car with Henry carefully held in his hands. “Is this the place, James?” Jason asked calmly, looking at the building that had the name Carine’s Closet boldly written on it with a logo of a woman clad in a red gown close to it. “Yes, Young Master. This is one of the best boutiques I have seen in this city. They have designers of all kinds, ranging from clothes shoes, bags, clothes, and other kinds of accessories…”“So they sell baby clothes?” “Yes, Young Master. They have all kinds of baby clothes, I have been here before…” “Oh, I see…” Jason nodded while admiring the building tha

While they followed Carine through the hallway, Jason wondered why she wasn’t able to recognize him, and even though he was happy that he wasn’t going to have to face another drama, he couldn’t stop thinking about the humiliation she caused him. While they were still walking slowly behind Carine, a teenage girl who was dressed in a red uniform walked up to Carine with a tablet in her hands. “Where the hell have you been? I have been looking all over the place for you!” “I am sorry Miss Douglas!” The teenage girl bent her face at once while Carine scoffed instantly before giving a look of disdain. Everyone was shocked at how she was talking to the girl, especially Rose who was reminded of how she was maltreated in the past, and felt really sorry for the girl. “You are sorry? Was that the answer I was looking for? Huh? Where the hell have you been?” “A customer needed to get a perfect size for his girlfriend, and I went to see him. He booked an appointment with us.” “That

The look on Jason’s face was able to tell Carine that she was definitely telling the truth, and on a closer look, she recognized him instantly and gasped. “It’s you! I remember you!” Carine took three steps closer to Jason who sighed softly, looking at her with his arms folded. “You were that clumsy fellow who pushed my drink at the Palmer’s residence after the funeral. What the hell are you doing here?”“Am I supposed to answer that?” Jason said with am icy tone, looking at Carine who realized he was right at once. “Yeah, but I heard that Isabella divorced you because you were not capable enough to take care of her or the baby. How then do you still have him?” “Because he is my son, Miss Douglas. That is why I still have him. Do you have any problem with that?” Jason stared at Carine with a smirk on her face, but that didn’t stop Carine from scoffing at him, holding onto the unpleasant memories that they shared.“He is your son?” Carine asked after a few seconds, but Jason

Jason ignored Carine who was still searching for the number she wanted to call on her phone, and turned toward the teenage girl who was on the floor, crying bitterly. “Let me help you, my dear. Come…” Jason extended his hands toward the teenage girl who refused to take his hands because she was still afraid of what Carine could do to her. Jason noticed that she was looking at Carine with so much fear written all over her face, but he insisted on helping her up. “Don’t worry about her, I’ve got you. I promise.” Jason said with a smile, and then he went ahead to lift her up from the floor before helping her adjust her gown, making sure it covered her properly. “What is your name?” Jason asked at once, but the girl still looked at Carine who was busy with her phone. “Don’t worry about her, okay? What is your name?” “Betty.” She responded with a shaky voice, looking at Carine who was completely unaware of what was going on as her major interest was to find the number she was l

It was very obvious to everyone that Carine was trying to hide something from them, but Jason was very determined to find out what it was. He stared at her for a few seconds before returning his gaze to Betty who was still shaking from the words she heard from her Stepmother. “Betty?” Jason said calmly, looking at the teenager with a smile on his face while she nodded instantly, stealing interval glances at Carine who obviously had so much influence on her. “I want you to know that you can tell me whatever, and nothing is going to happen to you, okay? Hey? Look at me…” Jason held Betty gently on her head and pulled her face to look at him when he realized that she was looking at Carine whose sight made her fidget. “Listen to me, Betty. I think you need all the help you can get right now, and we are here to help you. Don’t pay attention to her, we are here, and she won't be able to hurt you just like she has done in the past. Betty stared at Carine for a few seconds, and when she saw that she seemed to be afraid of something that made her not say any other word, she returned her gaze to Jason and nodded slowly. “Good. I am happy to hear that. So can you take us to that place?” Jason asked at once, still looking at Betty who nodded at once. “Good! Excellent! That is all I needed to hear, Betty.” Jason turned to look at Rose who seemed very pleased that Betty was able to speak up. “So, Betty. You are going to take us to see your father, okay? We are going to have a word with the Doctors to find out what is really wrong with your father, okay?” Almost immediately, the guard who left the room returned with a hard drive in his right hand while he walked up to Jason who slowly turned to look at him. “Good, very good. Hold onto that, we are going to be needing it.” Jason gestured to the guard who bowed slowly before he walked over to a corner of the room and stood with the hard drive tightly gripped in

Xavier gasped as soon as he heard the words that crashed his hope. He knew that Baron was brutal and dishonest, but he was also greedy. He had thought that he was going to let him go for the right amount, but it was obvious that there was more to it. “Why? Why the sudden change of mind, Baron? I am willing to give you any amount you desire, all you have to do is mention it.” Jason said calmly, trying as much as he could not to react. “I have changed my mind, Mr. Walker. I just realized that the boy is very valuable to me, and I can’t let him go just like that. You will have to tell his mother that you failed to bring him back. Trust me, this isn’t personal.” Baron lied with a smirk on his face, but Jason already knew that his words were false. “Your eyes say something else, Baron. This isn’t about the boy, is it?” Jason sighed, struggling to discard the frown on his face, but it was there to stay with no intention of leaving. “I don’t know what you are talking about, Mr. Walke

Jason could tell that the old man’s smile was fake, but he had to maintain a smile as well, eager to do what had brought him to the place. He looked around while marching slowly toward Baron with Harry and Ramon beside him. “I am sorry for coming to your place unannounced, Baron. But this is very important.” Jason explained calmly, but it took the man a while before he responded. “Well, you are here already. I wonder what brought you here, and I am eager to hear it. I only hope this has nothing to do with the Franchise.” Baron turned to face Harry and a frown instantly took over the smile on his face. “Lord Walker knows not to disturb me over such trivial matters. We had a deal, and I hope he will still keep to his own end of the bargain.” Baron continued with a smirk before returning his gaze to Jason who maintained his smile even though he was confused at that moment. “This way, please! Shirley was silent for a while, but the men standing close to her knew that she was thinking of the right answer to give to them, so they didn’t mind waiting until she was ready to speak. Eventually, she figured out what to tell them, and sighed heavily before she spoke with a loud whisper, trying as much as she could to be audible enough. “There was this man, he came looking for my son a few weeks ago. He said he stole something from him, and that he was meant to pay back for it. I told him that my son was not home, but he said he knew where to find him. He left and never came back.” Shirley sniffled, suppressing the extra tears that tried to roll down her face from her eyes. “When my son came back, I tried to warn him about the strange man, but he never listens. I pleaded with him to go far away, but he is as stubborn as his father. A week later, some men came to the house and took us. They blindfolded us and took us to this beautiful house where there were a lot of guards.”

For over an hour, Jason and the Butler remained seated, waiting patiently for Brenda to return with some news. The silence between them was laced with a little tension, but they were hopeful that something positive was going to come out of their adventure. Ignoring the lady who was secretly taking pictures of him with her smart phone, Jason adjusted himself before clearing his throat. He turned to face Harry, and spoke with a low tone. “Harry? Can I ask you something?” “Sure, Young Master! Anything at all.” Harry adjusted slowly, ready to hear what Jason was going to say to him. “Do you think the boy will be willing to come with us if he is real? Again, how do you think I am meant to handle a situation like this? I mean, the boy could be in a very bad mess, and I would have to pull him out of it.” Jason sighed, unable to discard the worrisome look on his face. But the middle-aged man had a smile on his face, and before giving him a response, he chuckled softly. “I know y

The waitress discovered that two men were walking toward her, and adjusting herself with a welcoming smile on her face, she greeted them warmly. “Hello, Sir. Welcome to Joe’s Café. Do you need anything?” “Yes. Hello. We are looking for a lady called Shirley. I was told she works here.” Jason said with a smile as well, looking at the waitress whose countenance showed that she didn’t know who he was talking about. “Shirley? I don’t think I know any Shirley who works here, Sir. I am new here, but I can get you someone who could know.” “Yes, please! Thank you so much.” Harry said calmly, gesturing to the waitress who nodded before walking away, holding onto the small notepad and pen she had in her hands. “I really hope this ends well,” Jason said with a whisper, sighing firstly while he kept his eyes on the path the waitress took. For a few seconds, Jason remained silent, but it didn’t seem like that was going to solve anything. The old man was still waiting to get a response from him, and Harry was interested to know the outcome of their meeting as well. Adjusting himself to get a more comfortable posture, Jason cleared his throat and sighed before he spoke with a voice that almost sounded like a whisper. “He has a son.” He said calmly, but his words were too heavy for the other men in the room to remain as calm as he was. Lord Walker knew Jason to be a man who didn’t joke with such things but for a second, he remained calm, hoping that he was going to say he was joking. Maybe he meant to say something else. “A son?” “Yes, Grandpa. He has a son.” “Julius has a son?” Lord Walker leaned forward, and grabbed the half-empty glass of water which he consumed before returning it to the table. “Are you okay, Lord Walker?” Harry asked, moving closer to the old man who raised his hands to stop him from g

The rays from the sunlight were shining brightly through the casement windows inside the bedroom. The curtains were half closed, giving way to the rays that hit Brenda’s eyes while she groaned in her sleep. As though there was a force, she opened her eyes instantly, only to behold the sight of shirtless Jason sitting close to her with a tray in both hands. “Wakie wakie! I was worried that too were not going to wake up on time to see this.” Jason had a beautiful smile on his face while he looked at Brenda who adjusted herself slowly, sitting up while she looked at the tray he was carrying. “What’s that?” “Oh! This? I made you breakfast! I had to wake up early just to make sure that everything worked as I planned. Here…” Jason opened the dish cover to reveal the egg and sausages on the plate next to a cup of black coffee. “I tried making the coffee just like you do. I hope I tried.” Jason handed the cup of coffee to Brenda who blew on the coffee before taking a sip. “Easy! I

Special Announcement
While everyone sat comfortably, eating and drinking everything that had been set on the table, Jason picked up the glass of wine in front of him, and after looking at his Grandfather and getting the signal from him, he nodded before lifting the glass. “I have a special announcement!” He hit his fork on the brim of the glass, drawing the attention of everyone seated at the table who instantly put a hold t what they were doing, and paid keen attention to him. Everyone seemed curious to know what he was about to say except the old man who was already done eating his veggies and wiped his lips with a napkin while he maintaining a grin on his face. “First of all, I want to thank Harry for bringing his lovely family to dinner. It’s such a pleasure to have you all here. Family is everything, family is life, and I am happy that he has such a beautiful family.” Jason lifted the glass toward Harry who bowed gently, still wondering what he was up to. “Harry here has been working with thi

Jason was the first to step out of the hot tub before Brenda joined him. Handing over one of the two towels he grabbed to her, he gave her a lovely smile which made her blush while she grabbed the towel, and wrapped her body with it. “You are still staring.” Brenda said with her smile intact, but Jason couldn’t take his eyes away from her, not even for a second. “What am I going to ever do without you? You have brought me so much joy, Brenda.” “Nothing, Jay. You are going to do nothing.” Brenda chuckled while Jason nodded without getting rid of his smile. “You are right. Absolutely nothing, that’s what I am going to do if I ever lose you.” “Well, I am not leaving anytime soon. I am here with you, my love.” Brenda patted Jason on both cheeks before she turned and walked toward the bedroom, holding onto her towel with both hands. “We must hurry, Jay! We are having guests, remember?” “Oh, right! I almost forgot about that!” Jason rushed into the room, and got dressed
