Dylan looked up as the door opened and Dr. Lydia stepped out. He stood up, his heart beating faster in anticipation.

"How is she?" he asked, his voice a little shaky.

Dr. Lydia smiled at him reassuringly. "She's going to be fine," she said. "The fever has come down a little bit, and we've given her some medicine to bring it down further."

Dylan breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank God," he said. "Can I see her?"

Dr. Lydia nodded. "Of course. Follow me."

She led him down a long corridor and through a set of double doors, and into a small private room where Maya was lying on a hospital bed, her eyes closed. Dylan rushed to her side and took her small hand.

"She's still sleeping," Dr. Lydia said softly. "But she should be waking up soon. We'll keep her here for a few more hours just to make sure the fever doesn't come back."

Dylan nodded, his eyes never leaving his daughter's face. "Yeah, thank you, Dr. Lydia," he said gratefully. "Scared the shit out of me."
